Sitemap - % of URL's in Google Index?
-
What is the average % of links from a sitemap that are included in the Google index? Obviously want to aim for 100% of the sitemap urls to be indexed, is this realistic?
-
If all the pages in your sitemap are worthy of the Google index, then you should expect around a 100% indexation rate. On the flip side, if you reference low quality pages in your sitemap file, you will not got them indexed and may even be hurting the trust of your sitemap file. As a point in case, Bing just recently announced that if they see an error rate greater than 1% in the sitemap, then they will just ignore your sitemap file.
-
Clients, so I have no idea how they do it. It's a complex automated process for sure.
-
Wow. Do you have a third party program to build your site map files or our you using something built in house?
-
Ryan's point is important to note. 100% is achievable under the correct circumstances. I've got a client with 34 million pages on their main site (and contained within a combined 909 sitemap xml files), and they have 34 million pages indexed.
-
The percent of pages indexed varies greatly with each site. If you desire 100% of your site indexed then 100% of your site's pages should be reviewed to ensure their content is worthy of being indexed. The content should be unique, well written and properly presented. Your sitemap process also needs to be carefully reviewed. Many site owners simply set up an automated process without taking the time to ensure it is properly configured. Often pages which are blocked by robots.txt are included in the site map, and those pages will not be indexed.
Many people say "I want 100% of my site indexed" just how many people say "I want to be #1 rank in Google". Both results are achievable, but both require time and effort, and perhaps money.

Hi. We have a stiemap with over 250,000 URLs and we are at 87%. This is a high for us. We have never been able to get 100%. We have been trying to clean up the sitemap a bit but with so many URLs it is hard to go through it line by line. We are making more of an effort to fix the errors Google tells us about in Webmaster Tools but these only account for a fraction of the URLs apparently not indexed.
We also do site searches on Google to see how many URLs total we have in Google as our sitemap only includes "the most important" pages. Doing a search for "site:www.sierratradingpost.com" comes up with over 400,000 URLs.
For us, I don't think 100% is realistic. We have never been able to achieve it. It will be interesting to see what other SEOmozers have to report!

Google de-indexed a page on my site
I have a site which is around 9 months old. For most search terms we rank fine (including top 3 rankings for competitive terms). Recently one of our pages has been fluctuating wildly in the rankings and has now disappeared altogether from the rankings for over 1 week. As a test I added a similar page to one of my other sites and it ranks fine. I've checked webmaster tools and there is nothing of note there. I'm not really sure what to do at this stage. Any advice would me much appreciated!

Hello, We have a problem with our clients website .ee. This website was developed by another company and now we don't know what is wrong with it. If i do a Google search "site:.ee" it only finds konelux.ee homepage and nothing else. Also homepage title tag and meta dec is in Finnish language not in Estonian language. If i look at .ee/robots.txt it looks like robots.txt don't block Google access. Any ideas what can be wrong here? BR, T

What is a "Bad Link" in Google's eyes? Low DA?
Hi there, I'm going through my link profile and I noticed I have a few links that are from <10 DA sites. One has a DA of 6. Should I remove these? Aside from any referral traffic I receive from these links (I know there is none), are these links hurting me?

How is Google's algorithm evolving in terms of DA vs PA value?
how is Google evolving in terms of value for DA vs PA? Is having a link from a DA 75 + PA 25 better than having a link from a DA 50 + PA 50, assuming such 2 websites are otherwise identical? I have a couple of .EDU backlinks where DA is around 80, though PA 1. Would be DA 40 with a PA 40 be more valuable? I hear Google is placing increasing value on the domain and less on the page authority.

Disallowed Pages Still Showing Up in Google Index. What do we do?
We recently disallowed a wide variety of pages for www.udemy.com which we do not want google indexing (e.g., /tags or /lectures). Basically we don't want to spread our link juice around to all these pages that are never going to rank. We want to keep it focused on our core pages which are for our courses. We've added them as disallows in robots.txt, but after 2-3 weeks google is still showing them in it's index. When we lookup "site: udemy.com", for example, Google currently shows ~650,000 pages indexed... when really it should only be showing ~5,000 pages indexed. As another example, if you search for "site:udemy.com/tag", google shows 129,000 results. We've definitely added "/tag" into our robots.txt properly, so this should not be happening... Google showed be showing 0 results. Any ideas re: how we get Google to pay attention and re-index our site properly?

What Is The Preferred Url Structure For Se’s?
Here is my issue, my domain is abcdomian.com and I’m trying to rank the site for the keyword “example”. All of my content is under “abcdomain.com/folder/example/” and building content off of “abcdomain.com/example” is not an option. So I’m thinking about moving the content to “abcdomain.com/online-example/” and 301ing the old pages . Of the two paths below, which will have a greater impact on my rankings for the term “example”? Current: abcdomain.com/folder/example/
