What are the best reasons not to use Wordpress as a CMS?
-
I'm a big fan of Wordpress (.org) as a content management system. However, I recognize that Wordpress isn't necessarily the best CMS for all ocassions.
For those of you who don't like Wordpress, I'm interested in understanding your strongest reasons against. So, why not Wordpress?

Wordpress works great for amateur to medium size clients, anything that needs a solid professional build with data-basing requires something more robust from my point of view.

You can merge Magento and WordPress together, there's almost nothing you can't do with WP. Your comment about noindex is a fair one, but if you wanted to noindex useless pages on another platform, you'd have to do more than just tick a box (Yoast robots meta - http://yoast.com/wordpress/meta-robots-wordpress-plugin/)
My personal opinion is that WP's growth is going to explode during 2011 when small businesses start clocking on to how great it is. It's just a matter of educating them about it!

That's an incredibly tough question and all I can think of right now is that you can't sell a WordPress web design as a bespoke CMS. A lot of businesses want a bespoke CMS that costs infinitely more than WordPress and with less functionality. There really is nothing to dislike about WordPress unless you hate using MySQL.

I love WordPress, but I recognize it's limitations. First, I don't think it works all that well for e-commerce. There are shopping cart plugins, but there are some platforms out there like Magento that have a lot more functionality and are simply better for e-commerce and other shopping cart sites.
I don't like the cateogory, tag and archive features. Just a bunch of useless, duplicate content. I have to noindex those pages and block them in the robots.txt. Not hard or time consuming, but indeed annoying.
Other than that it works great. I have a variety of sites on WordPress that do several different things. I like that it can be customized to suit your needs very easily.

Best Practices for Recurring Blog Topics
Our site has annual articles (such as a payment calendar and an announcement of our annual conference). Is it better to keep all the old blog articles available and searchable, redirect them to the most current year's entry, or something else entirely? My instinct is to have a permanent redirect to the newest article.

How to best host a blog - standalone or on the site?
HI We are redesiging our site currently - at the moment we have a low key blog on the site which is pretty well hidden (to be changed with redesign) but is hosted as brand.com/blog name. I have been advised it might be a good idea on relaunch to have the blog as a standalone blog linking back to our main site but also having a graphic on the site that promotes the blog. The blog does not currently have the same name as the website so would work as a standalone site but I understand it would not have any seo benefits from the original site. I have seen on previous posts here that the best practise is domain.com/blog but wondered if anyone thought different? Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks, Penny

Does using Articlebase articles on your site push your rank down?
Hello All, I launched a website (www.hrpayrollsystems.net) last year. I'm very new to the SEO world so I'm still seeing what works and what doesn't. We recently republished some articles from articlebase.com that I think may have hurt us in SEO. Does Google see our site as having duplicate content and then penalize us? Our top keyword isn't even ranking anymore when I put it in the sites that tell you where you show up. Help!

Creating the best content in your industry
Im currently working with a new client and their goal is to create the absolute best content in their industry. I've seen alot of articles on WHY to create the best content but not a lot on HOW to create the best content. Can anyone recommend a article they recall which talked more about the HOW. I'm looking for a process on how to create awesome content, how to go about it. Any suggestions?

Author Rank - Using the brand as the author
Hi i'm building a new site and want to start building up author rank right from the start. If you are building author rank for a brand, do you think its fine to use the brand as the actual author of the content, instead of a actual person? Or using a stage name rather then a persons actual name, and have your writers write under that particular stage name? Would love to hear peoples opinions. Cheers, Mark

Wordpress post templates
Hi everyone! What I need is a way in Wordpress for the author to select a category for their post, and then have a template come up with some fields in addition to just the large field where you write your post, where the author can add some additional information. Then on the final post, have that information added to the top in some format that I (as the admin) can control. What I'm doing is setting up an internal company blog so our employees can have more visibility across teams. Some categories of posts will always include the same information, like release numbers, conference attendance, yes/no conclusions, among other information. If there's a plug-in for this, free or not, that would be great! If you can't tell I'm a Wordpress noob... so please bear with me. 🙂

If you have the best sales on the weekends, when is the best day to post the content?
The Client has the best sales on the weekends and his writing a weekly blog post to help the overall site rank better and hopefully drive more sales. When is the best time to post this content? On Monday so that it hopefully gets indexed by the weekend? or On Friday so that we can leverage twitter and Facebook to increase sales.
