Question about keyword
-
I had read a post in SEOmoz about keywords. According to it, The best keywords are
1. High Volume (many searches/month)
2. Low Competition
3. High Value (large % of visitors convert)
My question is how can i find about 2nd and 3rd point. High search volume is shown in many Tools including Google adwords, but how can we be sure to find keywords that are low in competition and at the same time high value.

Following on from Johns response;
"You should have an instinct for which of these will convert best."
Once you have a list of these keywords you could always carry out an old-school KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) check on each of them.
1. Check the Adwords tool for the number of monthly searches.
2. Run a regular google search and note the number of returned results which is diaplyed just below the search bar. i/e 'About 1,799,900 results (0.13 seconds) - This is your competition.
3. KEI = monthly searches x monthly searches ÷ competition
The KEI theory is that the higher the KEI the more effective your campaign will be. Initially the figures don't give you a very clear picture but if you include the KEI check as part of your regular research and combine the results with your other keyword analysis and "instict" you will end up with a more rounded view.
If, for instance, you were choosing between two different keywords to use as your main target keyword and one of them had a KEI of 2.3 and the other had a KEI of 176.4 then I would be opting for the second keyword choice.

Thanks John.
"You should have an instinct for which of these will convert best.".
I was also thinking along those lines, when decided to ask the question. This to me, seems the best approach.

Using the Adwords tool works to find the high volume and low competition keywords. You should have an instinct for which of these will convert best. Build your content around those, and over time you'll see which keywords produce the highest value. I don't know of a tool that will measure the value of keywords for you. Since everyone's site is different, I have a hard time picturing how that would work.

Worried about keyword cannibalization
I've been reading a lot about keyword cannibalization and I'm worried that some of my sub pages may be pulling rank from my home page. If I'm trying to rank my home page for the keyword phrase "blue widget manufacturing" and I have sub pages with the titles "blue manufacturing services", "blue widget enginnering", "medical widget manufacturing" is it possible that those pages could be causing me to commit keyword cannibalization? I'm looking at a lot of the results for my keyword phrase and they don't seem to have additional pages with similar keyword phrases. Wondering if I should change my titles so they don't look as optimized.

Are the Volume numbers from the Keyword Difficulty Tool identical to Google Adwords Keyword Tool?
I use the Keyword Difficulty Tool daily. Because of the troubles with Google's API I can no longer see the search volumes. I still want to use the tool for difficulty numbers because I think this is a much better number than the Google Adwords Competitive bar. If I use the Adwords keyword tool for volume numbers, will that be sufficient? Is this the same as what Moz usually provides? If no, where is the best place to gather volume numbers? Thanks!
