Question regarding redirect to www.
-
Good afternoon –
I was wondering if someone could help me with regards to my site @ allrmc.com
I have been generating good content and building links for some time and we're getting great results but I was wondering if my site may be suffering from not redirecting to the www.
I have heard that google treats “website.com” & “www.website.com” separately and wanted to know if this has been true in anyone’s experience?
For instance through site explorer I am finding that using site explorer without the www. We have a 39 PA but with www. It’s 63. If I redirected all visitors to www. Would my SERPS potentially improve?
I know this is probably a SEO101 question but would love feedback on this I’m too afraid to do anything drastic without asking first.
Thank you for your input! – Cliff

It is a best practice, and it will have the additional benefit of helping you get the links back to the correct version of the site (since people often copy and paste the link from the browser, you're giving them the correct version to copy and paste).

Thanks guys for this input it's really appreciated. So even with the canonical that I have and setting preferred domain in webmaster which I did when I setup the site I am still splitting links up and should redirect to get the full benefit. Best practice I see. Thank you!!

I can verify both from my personal and professional experience it is absolutely true.

Yes. Your links are presently divided as if they are going to two different websites. By combining into one site, your backlinks will merge which will increase your PA and DA.
This is a major SEO issue which should be promptly resolved. The fix is relatively easy:
1. Determine which version of your URL is preferred, with or without the www. My recommendation would be to use whichever version of your URL has the most established backlinks.
2. Set up a 301 redirect based on your choice. Your site should only be visible to the world using one version of your URL (like the SEOmoz site, for example).
3. Review your site and ensure all your internal links consistently use the correct URL format.
4. Review your signatures, social sites and any company controlled sites to ensure they all use the correct URL format.
5. Reach out to any partners and friendly sites and request they update your web address.
It may take about a month for the full benefit of the change to be absorbed. Google indexes a small percentage of your site each day.
Many SEOs will advise you to update your preferred setting in Google and Bing Webmaster Tools. You are welcome to make the change but it is not required with a proper 301 redirect in place.

You're serving pages for http://allrmc.com/, http://www.allrmc.com/, and http://allrmc.com/index.php. It looks like you implemented a rel canonical to point all of these to the www version of your home page. Ideally, you could just 301 redirect all of them to the www version, but since they're all the same page, Google should respect the canonical. If you do a general redirect for all of your pages to go from the non-www to the www version, that would fix this for the rest of the pages on your site, which also suffer from this and don't have canonical tags on them.
It won't matter for the SERPs really if you go with the www or non-www version everywhere.

Recovery Question
Hello everyone, hopefully the community can help me, and offer some advice. I sell sporting good products on a custom ecommerce platform, and after one of google's first algorithm updates my organic traffic took a dive. I've been in contact with SEO companies offering their service to help with fixing the issue, and getting my traffic back to where it was before the updates, but they are charging so much, and I can't afford to pay at this time. My buddy told me about Moz, so I signed up for the 99.00 a month plan to see what I can do on my own. So my question to the community is where do I begin. Should I attempt to go at this myself, or use a company to help me with my recovery. Has anyone used TDM Triangle direct media?

Two months into SEO and I have a few questions. Read on.
Hey Moz Community Basically, I have been suspended from my job in November (with pay) on railway. Since I have nothing to do. I came across SEO, and since then. these past two months I've been addicted! firstly, I read up on how to make money buying and selling exact match domains. I failed miserably! newbie error and I still have around 10 domains in my godaddy account 😕 Anyway, I came across moz and a few other sites i read -backlino & quicksprout. I decided to go down the root of just starting a blog on one of my domains based at the health and fitness niche, the sites alot like bodybuilding.com. So this site and SEO has kind of became my hobby as I learn. I am now a MOZ pro member and have my site on there getting weekly reports. I do alot of keyword research and I try my best to write posts on what I have researched and by using the yoast WP-pluging. I optimize my article/post. this week I had a report back from moz saying one of my keywords are #31 . So i put the term in google and go along to page 5 I think it was and there I see it. My post! yesterday I check again and its on page 3, then i see it on page 4, around a few hours later. it is back on page 5 and today. it is back on page 3?? Can somebody explain why it is doing this? Also, the keyword difficulty was 38% and theres over 3 million results for that term.. so to see it there in the top #51 was a shock, as all I have done is On page SEO. No social shares yet or Links pointing to the page. So does this mean with social shares and Links. this could easily end up on page 1? I have around 5 articles on the site so far.. all are around 1000 words each and are all optimized the same way but are not in the top #51 on google. one post has even had around 60 social shares and even flooded over 3000 visits in 2 days and still isn't ranking?? and My final long question is this.. I train at my gym and have mentioned to a few of the fellas about my new hobby and it's all I talk about. Then a week or two later, I have this Guy tap me on the shoulder as I'm working out and puts his hand out to shake mine. "hi I'm Tim. One of the lads mentioned to me that your learning SEO and your passionate about what you do". Anyway, too cut a massive story short. He told me he owns a catering company over here in the UK and really wants me to put what I'm learning into practice for his company. He's offered me a wage and commission if I start making sales through his site. Thing is I'm still new to all of this.. I said I will look at his site, his products and pick out low competition keywords. See what the keyword difficulty score is on moz, and create a blog - writing posts the same why I do on my fitness site... optimize the post, share through social networks etc, find who links to his competitors and reach out etc for links and do the broken link tactic to. Can you guys give me some advice? as i'm no big seo company. I'm also thinking of spending the next few days digging deep into google adwords and facebook ads. As I think getting traffic this way will also be good to start off with, even if it is paid. I know alot of you guys work or own an SEO company. So can you give me some points or link me to some good information on how I should do this process for my first, should I say Client? I know this Is one big Q&A.. but I'm trying to explain everything. Thanks Again. Carl

Keep www in the domain or not?
I have a client who had a wordpress website built about 1.5 years ago without the www in front of the domain. In May of this year client decided to have his website rebuilt. The new web designer built the site in Joomla and changed hosting company (first website hosted by Go Daddy) the new web designer built the new site with the www in front of the domain. He put redirects from the old to the new. Client wants to go back to wordpress design. My question is: do we keep the www as the new site has this or revert back to the domain without the www. (domains are the same between the new and old site, only difference is old site has no www and new site does) web designer put in redirects to go from non www site to new site with www however I don't think he did it right. New site is still getting errors and when I look in the hosting account there are 9 pages of redirects. The old and new site are not that big. The hosting company tech support was a little shocked that there were 9 pages of redirects. My question is: will client loose what momentum we've built with redirecting traffic to the www new site? We've been working hard since the new site launched to get it indexed. Thoughts? Feedback please. We are going to move back to wordpress platform but I'm not sure about this www whether we keep it or not. I just don't want to mess up any indexing that we've achieved with the new site if we revert back to the domain without the www in front of it. Thank you

Difference Between www.domain.com and www.domain.com/ ?
Hi, Of course, it is obvious that when other sites link to you, they choose how to do so in terms of the anchor text. My questions is: 1. Most of the domain names I see on the web are: www.domain.com/ however, I am pretty sure that when someone thinks you have a site that there members can benefit by they will link to: www.domain,com , am I coorect in stating that the search engines (SE) see these as two separate and distinct domains? 2. If so, are these too, then these must be different and distinct as well: www.domain.com/best-service vs. www.domain.com/best-service/ **I went on that assumption and have created 301 directs for the latter example. ** 3. How would one check to see if a 301 direct is in place? As always, I am appreciated to this site and member's skills. Jim

Ask Rand a Question!
Hey Q&Aers, As you probably know, Rand answers one question per PRO newsletter, and I need a question to ask him. Please leave your questions below. (I generally give Rand a few questions, so he can choose which one to answer, so this is by no means a first come, first serve situation. But please only ask one!) Thanks!

Contact Form System Question
Hi, Our form system needs a major overhaul, but very short on time and resources... Can anyone suggest or know of a contact system prebuilt that can be integrated into HTML that has send, tracking and reporting abilities? One of the main reasons for this is we are moving away from Tomcat, and the form system we currently have utilizes servlets.... I have not been able to find much on this subject, so not even sure if there is such a thing? Thanks
