I changed my site from HTML to PHP and I need to get some help.
-
Ok...so the other day I went from HTML to PHP in every part of my website. I want to know the best option for me for redirecting my pages from HTML to php. I had my site scanned with SEOMoz and I was given many 404 errors which is not at all good.
I do not have any pages of my site linking to any of these html pages. All of the site links have been updated. I have checked 3 times.
I have never created a robots.txt file so I would love to get a little help with this part.
I was thinking it would be best to tell Google not to worry about these pages in the file.
I kept the pages up and I plan to remove all code with them so that no content shows up if someone visits but the issue with that is my site is already indexed as HTML.
I want to have the HTML pages redirect to the PHP without worrying that my visitors will land on my site via Google onto an HTML page.
I hope I am making sense.
What is the best advice you can give me. I need all pages to redirect to PHP.
I used an htaccess redirect from all HTML to PHP but when I get so many of them added I get an error on my site saying too many redirects.
Seriously need help.

I did that. I changed all my pages to php but my site is indexed in Google for HTML which when they land is not showing anymore because I deleted the .html files.
I need to know the right way to make google index my php pages in replace of the html.
I do not want to get penalized for dup content being that there is a about.php and about.html.
They both have the same content. I also do not want google to think the pages are gone and penalize me for missing or uncrawlable pages.

Why are you redirecting .html to .php why dont you just permanently change the endings of the pages to .php?

Will the SEOMoz.com team please answer this question. It is sort of important.

Latest news in site-wide footer?
I've asked my web team to add a section to our home page to showcase our latest news and content (articles, blog entries (same domain), white papers, case studies, etc.) I think it will be a good user experience and also provide an opportunity to keep a fairly stagnant home page updated with fresh content. My web team wants to add the section to our footer, which is site-wide. I'm sure this isn't a bad user experience, but will it cause problems or eliminate any SEO value (if any) for this regularly updating content?

Paying someone for SEO help?
Moz has been very helpful but since my site was hit by Google Panda and I am getting very little organic traffic, I am thinking about having someone who really knows SEO take a look and give me some help. However, I have no idea how to find someone reputable. Any advice for hiring someone for SEO help (on a budget?)

Index.php + external site added to end of URL
Good day, I have a domain http://www.ecofriendlylink.com. I am trying to resolve the Crawl Diagnostic errors on it. I have several Duplicate Page Content errors. Example 1: (The domain happynewyou is not mine, some Comments from them have been placed on my site. Ecoshop.php is a page on my site). URL: http://www.ecofriendlylink.com Duplicate Page Content: http://www.ecofriendlylink.com/www./happynewyou.com/ecoshop.php Referrer: None. Example 2: URL: http://ecofriendlylink.com/index.php Duplicate Page Content: http://www.ecofriendlylink.com/index.php http://www.ecofriendlylink.com/www./happynewyou.com/index.php Referrer: http://ecofriendlylink.com/ Example 3: is a different problem, but still a Dup Page Error. URL: http://ecofriendlylink.com/water.php Duplicate Page Content: http://www.ecofriendlylink.com/water.php Referrer: http://ecofriendlylink.com/ water.php is a page on my main domain. The www version and the non-www version, if this a problem and something I need to overcome? So please can you advise what I need to do to get rid of this strange external domain name + index.php (as per examples 1 + 2), and explain what I'm doing wrong with Ex 3. Thank you!

Changing my site (dramatically)
I am about to do a complete site change. I am going to WordPress. I am ranked #2 on SERPS. Will I lose rank for changing everything on my site? I have 500 pages indexed but I am about to have 30k indexed. It is a real estate site that is switching from a "framed" solution, to a listing indexed solution. If I make good use of my keywords etc (on site optimization) will I be at risk of losing risk just for changing my site?

Good Site Navigation verses Success
I have been experimenting with the number of links on our pages verses the number of hits we get. Success seems to be tied to having hundreds of links on a page verses ease of navigation. We have a research company that sells research on educational topics. Last November I decided to divide our category of literature research topics into 10 different subtopics and redistribute the links to the subtopic pages. The main literature research page had over 800 links on it. It was one of our top performing pages. I was hoping that by spreading the links out in logical categories i could distribute the wealth and have better navigation for the user. Now after 6 months the traffic to that page has dropped 800% and the sub-pages have only gained a very minimal percentage. Overall, the hits in the literature genre have dropped from 560 per month to around 80. Ouch! I thought Google would love this strategy, as it reduced page load time, links on a page and made the navigation logical and easier to see all available options. Not the case. Question is: Should I keep the subpages but go back and put all the links back on the main literature page, putting it back up to 800 links? Should I get rid of the subpages, because the links will all be on the main literature page if I move them? Any advice is appreciated! Karen

Canonical Tag for Ecommerce Site
My client has an ecommerce site with over 1,000 products. We have a ton of duplicates because of how their ecommerce system handles product pages. Each time a new product is added, there is a default product page created (/product/12345-product-name.aspx). Each time that product is added to a specific product category, another, separate URL is created (/product/office-chairs/12345-product-name.aspx). The site has over 1,000 duplicates (at least one for each product) because of how the ecommerce system structures URLs. We are unable to have unique content on /products/12345-product-name.aspx and /product/office-chairs/12345-product-name.aspx because both pages pull from the same database. Their webteam informed me that they can't implement canonical tags on individual pages, they must be dynamically added to the site all at once. Thus forcing me to choose all of the default product pages as primary URLs. Both types of URLs are getting indexed and the product URLs that were added to the categories are SEO friendly so I'm leary to eliminate one or the other with a canonical tag or a no index. Suggestions?

Status of Ajax and SEO? Changing navigation from plain HTML to AJAX.
We will change an old school HTML drop down navigation for an AJAX drop down one. What's your experience in regards to Google indexing AJAX? I know that Google is now able to read more stuff than in the past, but I need some stories "from the trenches" if you're willing to share. Thanks in advance.
