Rename index.php or keyword in URL?

It is important for me to get good search results for keyword + city name
For instance: tulips amsterdam
What would be better: renaming index.php or adding the cityname to the URL?
www.example.com/amsterdam/tulips

No, that's not what I mean. I am concerned that it will be seen as duplicate within my site, not compared to another site.

In all the 'home' buttons of the site you point back to www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam instead of pointing to / or www.example.com. Will that be seen as duplicate within the site and would it be harmfull?

Sure it says the same thing but if you look at it and you feel the message your delivering is better then you should be able to rank higher.
Think of it like this: /car/make/year/part/ How many people have that url structure.. a lot. Just because you have the same url structure does not mean it's duplicate.

OK thanks. One final question:
I saw a site (good scoring on that keyword) where they did this: The home button was not pointing to / but to /tulips-amsterdam.
The only thing I can imagine is that there are two exactly the same pages: index, where you will land at www.example.com and a copy of index, renamed to tulips-amsterdam. It seems to work very good. But wil there be a risk to get penalized for duplicate content?

Then I would go with: www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam because there is no reason to have a / vs - www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam does fine.

No, /amsterdam/ contains no page.
The CMS needs a 'container', like 'pages'
So it would be: www.example.com/pages/tulips-amsterdam
To get rid of that 'pages' I thought it might be an idea to rename 'pages' to 'amsterdam'. The result is that every URL contains the keyword 'amsterdam'. But I wonder what will be better:
www.example.com/amsterdam/tulips
OR
www.example.com/pages/tulips-amsterdam
www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam
In the last option the 'pages' container name has stripped with htaccess

Will you have more information about /amsterdam/ ? since we going with flowers in amsterdam then I would imagine a page about the different flowers in amsterdam.
So if you have more information of offer in amsterdam then I would say: /amsterdam/tulips

hello, another problem i am facing is that if i see in my rankings over 90% of keywords are connected with my home page. When i go to moz pro in Page Optimization Score wanting to optimize the page to rank better there are some propositions the issue is that it is impossible to have over 100 keywords in home page title to optimize it better for each one of these. I have more specific build more specific sites for many of these keywords in the site but google continues to rank all those keywords for the home page and not for the more specific page that could also be optimized for every keyword it deals with. Dates in URL's
I have an issue of duplicate content errors and duplicate page titles which is penalising my site. This has arisen because a number of URLs are suffixed by date(s) and have been spidered . In principle I do not want any url with a suffixed date to be spidered. Eg:- www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk/carbis-bay/houses-in-carbis-bay/seaspray.htm/06_07_13/13_07_13 http://www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk/carbis-bay/houses-in-carbis-bay/seaspray.htm/20_07_13/27_07_13 Only this URL should be spidered:- http://www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk/carbis-bay/houses-in-carbis-bay/seaspray.htm I have over 10,000 of these duplicates and firstly wish to remove them on block from Google ( not one by one ) and secondly wish to amend my robots.txt file so the URL's are not spidered. I do not know the format for either. Can anyone help please.

Prevent indexing of dynamic content
Hi folks! I discovered bit of an issue with a client's site. Primarily, the site consists of static html pages, however, within one page (a car photo gallery), a line of php coding: dynamically generates a 100 or so pages comprising the photo gallery - all with the same page title and meta description. The photo gallery script resides in the /gallery folder, which I attempted to block via robots.txt - to no avail. My next step will be to include a: within the head section of the html page, but I am wondering if this will stop the bots dead in their tracks or will they still be able to pick-up on the pages generated by the call to the php script residing a bit further down on the page? Keyword use in Title tag?
To improve SEO on a particular keyword, should you use that same keyword in the title tag of multiple pages within your site? Will that help or would it actually hurt by causing pages within your site to complete against each other for that keyword? Does it make a difference if that keyword is truly used on all those different pages?
