Gifts.com - Multiple domain pages in SERPs
-
One of our big natural search competitors for gift keywords is Gifts.com. We are competing for many keywords like "teen gifts", "gifts for him", "gifts for her". For many of these, the Google SERP has multiple Gifts.com pages on the first page.
I have never seen more than one of our pages (uncommongoods.com) on a SERP page. Any clue how/why Gifts.com has multiple pages in search results ?
Thanks!

I think that is a good idea. yes!
-
It appears they already have multiple pages (teen gifts for example).
So I was going to say, run them all through the on-page optimization tool, and the SERP analysis tool (run a full report), get all the ranking factors of Gifts.com and then improve their own for each page.
Thoughts on that?

Most people think that keyword cannibalization is a problem. But here we see Gifts.com use it as an opportunity.
If you want to start taking over more SERP real estate for your money terms then produce more than one page that targets those terms.
Intentional keyword cannibalization is not a sin, it is a way to dominate your SERPs.

How often should I update the content on my pages?
I have started dropping on my rankings - due to lack of time after having a baby. I'm still managing to blog but I'm wondering if I update the content on my pages will that help? All my Meta tags and page descriptions were updated over a year ago - do I need to update these too? We were ranking in the top spots for a good few years, but we're slowly falling 😞 Please give me any advice to keep us from falling even further. I have claimed all my listings, and try to add new links once a month. I share my blog to all social sites and work hard to get Google reviews, we have 53 which is higher than any of our competitors. Any other ideas? Have I missed something that Google is looking for nowadays? Many thanks 🙂

Does personalization that changes meta data display in SERPs impact SEO?
My company has been rolling out personalization at the page level across our site using behavior paths embedding content from cross pathed pages as well as customer journey mapping. The dynamically generated content doesn’t change the URLs. In the SERPs I’m seeing that our title tags and meta descriptions also seem to be dynamically generated even though we have these elements crafted. The way our elements are crafted: Title tag: descriptive Keyword rich phrase | Brand Meta description: Keyword rich, grammatically correct description tied to title tag and page content for consistency. I search a specific URL: Title tag display: Keyword rich phrase | Brand – Brand Meta description display: Random content pulled from the page I search a phrase that includes Brand + keywords in the URL: Title tag display: Title tag we crafted Meta description display: Meta description we crafted I search a phrase that includes Brand + keywords in the title tag: Title tag display: Title tag we crafted Meta description display: Random content pulled from the page Does Google crawl the page and digest the title tag and meta description we crafted? Or is Google going to ding us for having the brand twice, exceeding the length of the title tag, etc.? I have been searching the interwebs, forums and the cosmos, but the only information I’m finding is related to the fact that URLs are changing and how that would impact SEO. That’s not the case for us. Thoughts on how all this is impacting our SEO efforts?

HREFLANG for multiple country/language combinations
We have a site setup with English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. We offer these languages for every European country (over 30). Thus, there are 150 + different URL combinations, as we use the /country/language/ subdirectory path. Should I list out every combination in hreflang?Or should I simply choose the most applicable combinations (/de/de and fr/fr, etc.)? If we go the latter path, should I block google bot from crawling the atypical combinations? Best, Sam

Mobile SERPs
Morning Mozzers, Please can someone tell me if Mobile SERPs are different to desktop? Do they have a separate algorithm? Mobile makes up 50% of my sites traffic and I want to make sure I am visible on all devices. Any articles welcomed. Kind regards Ben, London

Lots of dublicate titles and pages on search page
I own a paiting website with a lot of searchable paintings. The "search paintings" feature creates tons of dublicate pages and titles. See here:
Algorithm Updates | | KasperGJ
http://www.maleribasen.dk/soegmaleri.asp I guess the problem is, that the URL can actually be different and still return the same content. First time you click the "Search paintings" the URL will shown as above. But as soon as users
begin to definere they search to the left and use the "Search button" the top URL changes. So, depending on how the top URL looks different results are shown. This is pretty standard in searches. But it returns tons of dublicate pages and titles. How, do you guys cope with that? Is there a clever way to use ref="cannonical" or some other smart way to avoid this? /Kasper0 -

What do you think of Google SERP encryption?
Really interesting post by Search Engine Land about this "issue" for tracking conversion, especially for long tail keyword research. I suppose this change will be also applied on all google search pages (.ca, .fr etc.). I Really don't think Webmaster tools is a serious compensation in Analytics for this.

Anyone hurt by the 11+ million co.cc domain dump by Google?
Referencing this article: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/07/06/google_cans_11m_dot_co_dot_cc_sites/ Curious what the ramifications of this to SEO (improve rankings over spammy results, etc) and to hear thoughts on this.
