Google Webmaster Tools: Keywords
-
Hi SEOmozzers! I'm the Dr./owner/in-house SEO for my eye care practice. The URL is www.ofallonfamilyeyecare.com. Our practice is in O'Fallon, MO. Since I'm an optometrist, my main keywords are "optometrist o'fallon" and "o'fallon optometrist".
As I get more familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools, I've discovered the Keywords that Google feels best represent my website. About a week ago I noted Google counted 21 instances of "optometrist" on the 28-30 pages of my website, which ranks as #32 in the most common keywords. #1 is "eye" with 506 instances.
Even though 21 occurrences seemed low, I went though every page adding "optometrist" a couple times in the body where it would naturally be appropriate. I also added it to the address shown on the footer of every page. I changed the top navigation option of "meet Dr. Hegyi" to "our optometrist".
I must have added at least 4 occurrences to every page on my site, and submitted for a re-crawl. I even tried to scale back the "eye" occurrences on a few pages.
Today I see that Google has re-crawled the site and the keywords have been updated. "Optometrist has DROPPED from #32 to #33.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions why I'm not seeing increased occurrence in Googles eyes?
I realize this may not be a big factor in SERPs, but every bit of on-page optimization helps. Or is this too minor of an issue to sweat?
Thanks!

Good resonse James. Social is a good indicator for Google and I would tink that this factor will have greater impact over the next years to come. Like, tweet and +1 is a must. Stumbleupon is pretty big in the states and follow aswell.

If I were you I would contact local web masters that have resource sections ( think chamber of commerce) and see if you can't get some good anchor text links to your site.
I had a similar problem with a doctor I worked with but after I got a good blended link profile ( obviously weighted towards exact match) he started to crush his competition in the serps.
Best of luck hope this helps.

Hey Joe,
For a local business you may want to look at building a lot of localized search terms. I am helping a buddy of min e out with his osteopathic clinic, we are targeting all the suburbs around south yarra and of course these terms are very low competition, so it is easy to rank on the first page very quickly.
As an example of what I am talking about, we have targeted terms like: osteopath st kilda, osteo prahran etc.
Whilst the search volume is low, the conversion rate from the handful of people that do click through is very high and he gets a handful of clients each month, all of which continue to use him over the long term. It's a value based strategy, servicing local clients and ensuring they return visit.

No problem Joseph, a blog is a great way to add related content to your site and connect up with potential customers.
You can even run say a event in your local area, blog about it then link it up to your business.
but yeah really push the link building and adding quality content along with on site fixes.
further on site fixes are:
-
H1 tag - contact us (Make a target term) * Main title tag - place keywords first brand term later in the title. example [Keyword - Brand term] * Internal meta descriptions text are the same.
-
Social Media links and activity is limited, I would try to push some social links and activity.
Regards,
James.

Hi James,
Thanks so much for your quick and helpful response. I'll work on the points you mentioned. I already have the blog in place, though I need to continue adding good content.
Best,
Joe

Hi Mate,
To be honest you do not need to add your main keywords to every web page to see a benefit or increase in rank.
You need to be smart about how you optimize your website,
Some advice:
-
Make a blog on the website, add relevant information about your local area talk about things you are doing to help the local community. You can mix it up with a few industry reports to gather high quality links.
-
Work on off site link building, make sure you have all your suppliers linking to your focus on high quality links.
-
Work on adding to the social benefit of your site, grow your social base.
I hope these three points help.
Kind Regards,
James.

Google webmaster showing 0 indexed, yet I can see them all them Google search?
I can see them all the pages showing up in Google when i search for my site. But in webmaster tools under the sitemaps section in the indexed pages - the red bar is showing 0 indexed pages, even though they seem to be indexed. Any idea why is this showing like this? I don’t really think it’s that important as the pages are still indexed, but it just seems odd. Please see in the image.

Site was infected with spam webmaster tools still reporting it
I have recently been working with a site that was hacked. It suffered from a pharma injection into Joomla. The site has been cleaned for several months, but WMT is still reporting "pharmacy" as occuring 421 times. The url it gives reports a 500 error. I also removed it in Google. Can this still be hurting the site? How can I clean this up?

How do I get out of google bomb?
Hi all, I have a website named bijouxroom.com; and I was in the 7th page for the search term takı in google; and 2nd page for online takı. Now, I see that in one day my results seem to be on the 13th and 10th page in google respectively. I made too much anchor text for takı and online takı. What shall I do to gain my positions back? Thanks in advance. Regards,

Website disappeared from Google organic keyword searches.
We have an auto repair company as a client www.autorepairauroratilden.com who for the better part of a year their website had ruled the 1st page organic Google search results. Their website, Blogs, Facebook, and Twitter all came up on page one for their keyword searches. On May 13th, it all came to a screeching halt. The website is nowhere to be found for any of their keywords (example: brake repair Aurora.) There are a couple of blogs on page 2 but it’s nothing like it was prior to May 13th. On May 12th we published 5 branded websites for this client – Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Jeep, and Toyota, all on separate URL’s. All the page titles, keywords, and descriptions were specifically branded to the individual websites as were all the keywords. Since the beginning of June we’ve taken down the 5 branded websites and we’ve gone through our keywords on the auto repair website. The website was last crawled on June 11th. We still do not have any page 1 placement or for that matter any page placement. I checked 10 pages out. We have a 2nd auto repair client that has been running their website as well as their 5 branded websites a couple of months longer than this client and we’ve had no problems with any of their websites and keyword search results. How do we fix this?

What can I do if Google Webmaster Tools doesn't recognize the robots.txt file?
I'm working on a recently hacked site for a client and and in trying to identify how exactly the hack is running I need to use the fetch as Google bot feature in GWT. I'd love to use this but it thinks the robots.txt is blocking it's acces but the only thing in the robots.txt file is a link to the sitemap. Unde the Blocked URLs section of the GWT it shows that the robots.txt was last downloaded yesterday but it's incorrect information. Is there a way to force Google to look again?

Google Indexing
Hi Everybody, I am having kind of an issue when it comes to the results Google is showing on my site. I have a multilingual site, which is main language is Catalan. But of course if I am looking results in Spanish (google.es) or in English (google.com) I want Google to show the results with the proper URL, title and descriptions. My brand is "Vallnord" so if you type this in Google you will be displayed the result in Catalan (Which is not optimized at all yet) but if you search "vallnord.com/es" only then you will be displayed the result in Spanish What do I have to do in order for Google to read this the way I want? Regards, Guido.
