Is DMOZ listing important"Important" is a highly relative and variable term. A DMOZ listing can be helpful and add to a site's credibility, therefore it is desirable to obtain if you can. The process of applying is relatively simple and should involve under an hour total effort. Sometimes you will apply to a category which has a response editor and you can be accepted quickly. Other times you will apply to a category with a bad editor where you can't get in at all, or the process can take 6+ months. You have absolutely no control over the process. Even if you get in, your link may be on a page which is not crawled because it is buried so deeply.
Summary - if you offer a quality website, I would always apply for a listing in DMOZ. Once you apply, I wouldn't recommend spending more then 5 minutes per month checking on the application status. Just apply and move on.

Others will yes its a great link. I can only give my opinion, i would not dismiss it but I think any listing for listing sake has to be doubted in value it provides search engines.
I tend to look for directories that have some sort of relevance, relevent too your location or relevant to your niche.
If i was you, I would be looking for Realestate directories and local directories for British Columbia.
If you were a google bot and you see that a RE agent is listed in Dmoz, what conclusions would you make, the owner has got it listed, it is reviewed so they can assume that the site is of some level of authenticity, oppsoed from a relevant site it can say that this guy is about reale estate and he is in the Courtenay, British Columbia area and is also reviewed. I think the latter is of more importance.
there has been a few easy ways to get links in the past, article posting, blog comments and directories. i have seen Matt Cutts state that out of the 3Â local relevant directores still carry weight when mixed with quality links.Â
My tip is to concentrat on relevancy, not quantity or page rank, if you can get PR and quantity wheile being relevant thats great.

How important is fresh content?
Lets say the website you are working on has covered most of the important topics on your subject. Â How important is it that you continue to add content to it when there really may not be much that is so relevant to your users anymore? Â Can a site continue to rank well if nothing new is added to the site for year but continues to get good quality links?

Importance of Links for Local Search
**According to an article about the "no no's for local SEO" links are not very important. Here is an excerpt: "**Local SEO is very different when compared to traditional SEO. The importance of backlinks in local SEO isn’t as important. In other words, links simply don’t matter as much when it comes to local SEO. Googles’ local search algorithm treats links completely differently than its standard algorithm." How accurate is this statement? Wouldn't more links help your local pages rank better in non-local organic results such as the results outside of the new carousel?

Are Some Websites "White Listed"?
I track several niches that I am not in so I am not to biased with my own, and I noticed one site despite its rather mediocre quality, never moves.  I have seen other websites rise and fall in rank, a few with pretty good content. He writes reviews, but very obviously never touched the products he reviews.  However I see some other sites with real photos, and good advice for making a decision - they will sit on page two or three. I havent done a lot of research other than the size of the sites, and the links, and they are about equal. Sometimes the ranking site is smaller (its about 90 pages in google).  The other sites I have seen have more content on one topic as well, which is interesting google opts for his one page "once over" review over something more in depth and authentic. It got me thinking about whether some sites are white listed by google, as in hand picked to rank despite what else is out there. Is this possible?

Double Listings On Page One
I've been noticing a trend over the past month and a half. Â My sites that use to get more than one page listed in certain SERPs are now being adjusted. Â It almost looks manual but I know it is most likely a change in the algorithm. Â Let's say I had a SERP where my site was showing two different sub-pages in a single SERP at #4 and #6 are now having one page being pushed up to #3 but the other page is being pushed back past the first page. I'm not worried about penalizations or loss of value. Â I have been seeing this accross many of my client's sites. Â I just wanted to confirm that others were seeing it as well (so I'm not going crazy) and/or if Google has made any announcements or leaks regarding this shift. Maybe it's just my sites coming of age or something but I would love to be able to explain it more knowledgeably than with a "Google might be doing this". BTW - This is not effecting any of my Brand SERPs.

Paid for Directory Listings and no-follows
Was just about to book an advert in a directory until the salesperson told me that the directory listing would be replicated over 40 times, from different websites (they white label the directory to different sites, who then sell their own adverts in the directory). I asked them whether they did nofollows - they didn't know what they were, so clearly not. I'm thinking 40 plus identical links coming through (over 10% of total links to site) could attract punishment from Google. Your thoughts would be welcome. Thanking you in advance, Luke

How did a competitor's brand name get in google's related search list?
When doing a google search for the term "ulster county real estate" the related search list at the bottom of the serp includes 7 obviously related search terms and 1 brand name of a competitor. (see attachment) The competitor doesn't rank for this term organically at all yet he enjoys a link on the first page with those of us that do by being in the related search list? I don't get it. Anyone know how something like this happens? Innhs.png

How is important domain age now?
Just as topic states, how important do you think domain age is? Do you think getting old domain for the new website will do any difference? Lets say website A used to sell apples... went out of business after 5 years of business. If I would get that domain and will star selling apples again can I expect some extra boost because of the age? Cheers
