By asking this question tan you have opened up the door to a lot of everything you are not looking for. I am assuming you want links to give you rankings and you want rankings to get you traffic that you hope will purchase your goods. Well, it starts now, why should I link to your site and if your site can not deliver that then no level of SEO or links is going to help you. The best link is the one you didn't build. Don't get caught up in trying to rank, try to supply me or another potential visitor with something worth looking into. Your vertical is very competitive but no one is supplying a resource much like seomoz does for us optimizes. Consider that and the last thing you have to worry about it building links. So in a nutshell anyone offering "links" is offering you a nice new black hat :0) Your pal chenzo
Tanveer, forget it.
Let them know - Google's job is to find relevant, useful content and provide that to the consumer.
One of the best tactics to implement with an E-Commerce is provide 150-200ish of useful content about the product on unique pages for each which will increase the amount of "indexed" pages on the site which will in turn increase the sites value.
You have to get them to also consider producing AT LEAST an article once a week catering to their audience which then ties in their social media which I sure do hope they are at least investing in that as well.

Universal wordpress settings are not best practice and it is my suggestion to install - "seo ultimate" but only utilize the "title tag" "meta tag" features as it will allow you to structure the post/wordpress site to SEO spec.
Also giving you the option for categories etc.
Hope this helps.
Your pal,
Chenzo
Tina, you are going to run into a few SEO issues with Wordpress but don't worry to much about over optimizing since Wordpress is still one of googles most favored platforms. Ultimate SEO plugin is best and really try to consider the following: 1) title tags Wordpress will automatically title the page universally leading to duplicate page title issues 2) meta tag discription Aside from those two I usually do not use the other options as they are not needed when developing a natural/organic white hat type of site. Ps, a neat trick is to not use the Wordpress platform for the entire structure of the site but just the content areas. Giving you in essence 2 power house domains as you are able to upload a Wordpress through the root file under another keyword. Drop a line and I can explain further ... Hope this helps Your pal Chenzo
Kelly,
You went from magento TO magento?
Did anyone use 301 re-directs during the build?
Your pal,
Chenzo
Bob - that principal still applies and the quicker the visitor can be in front of a potential conversion/purchase - the better.
From ans SEO perspective though - do not rob yourself at creating as many as subpages of product pages as NATURALLY possible - splitting the products within niche - within niche.
Hope this helps.
P.S. - supply a Top 5-10 products which changes either monthly or quarterly with seasonal market trends with also boost conversion and overall appeal of your homepage.

This is something great to keep in mind moving the site over to a .com:
If my client were to propose this to me I would consider building another site with the BRANDED name and company products but use 100% brand new content - avoiding the possibility of being hurt by duped content.
Online real estate is priceless - so instead of just transferring the URL over - or just building a clone site - use this time to build upon your own brand and WEB business in general.
Look into some other low hanging fruits within your vertical and maybe take an approach by trying to optimize the site from the ground up with a handful of keyterms/products that you have the most REVENUE built into.
But then again - I am always looking to expand and create something new versus replicating.

You might run into stubborn webmasters that just don't reply or tell you to fly a kite - so I came up with something that seems to work like a charm.
I inform them in less than 3 sentences that your site has been taking over by a trojan/virus/something scary and that it seems to be attaching itself to any and all sites that are linking to "me" so tell them for the safety of their site and any google penalization please remove the link and actually ask them to "let you know"
A great call to action and has been working for me

It is all about picking a niche that you can discuss daily if not no less than once a week. Then slowly through your current Facebook and other social mediums build your audience and when you are up to around 25 to 50 readers a day host a giveaway ...and I mean a nearly one... Free tickets to a water park or theme park, market the season and you will for sure gain exposure and most importantly on target backlinks. I can help you organize one through the many blogs I am running depending on your vertical
Very, very interesting Lewis!
Most of you guys probably already know - but Google Panda 4.2 has began.
I would love to keep an open discussion regarding anyone who was affected by the last Panda update along with changes for the good/bad during this new roll out in addition to what vertical you are in.
PANDA TIME!
Your web therapist,
Chenzo
My saying is - if it doesn't make sense - it will not rank in a post penguin/panda world.
How old is the URL ?
Best thing to do though is if you have jumped to 2nd page within the first 3 months - then:
CONTENT _ CONTENT _ CONTENT
Remember Google's job is to provide the searcher the BEST resource.
Are you that resource?
Google said it was rolling out a Panda algorithm last night.
New data refresh of Panda starts rolling out tonight. ~1% of search results change enough to notice. More context: goo.gl/huekfHas anyone been affected yet ....I seem to see a jump in some newer sites less than 3 months old already for some rankings - I don't like seeing rankings that quick!Do you see anything?
One word - GIVEAWAYS.
I am running a special right now and one of the rules of entry are:
Newsletter sign up upon other data driven needs.
The giveaway has to be GREAT and trust me - works like a charm.
I am running a giveaway for 2 tickets to a NBA Playoff game.
Pro - We are already up to 900+ subscribers for the start of May.
Con - Not EVERYONE is interested in the products and or offer.
Michelle - HOLD ON there!
URL suicide right there!
No way at all do you want to post duplicate content - even spun content.
Authentic, Authentic Authentic!
Plus in a post penguin/panda world - you are really walking on thin ice.
Grey hat + Black hat = no hat of mine.
Trust me - getting authentic content from a client will be like getting a hamburger at a veagan road side vendor - but YOU GOT TO!
Your pal,
Chenzo
I agree with Rich here - quality control.
Not a fun process - but I have done migrations like this in the past.
From what platform to the next is it?
Example: PHP to wordpress or wordpress to wordpress kind of move?
Would like to see if I can help ;o)
Your pal
Chenzo
If I make a blog about what Lawyers should know about say, new adwords changes or something like that, and then get links from PPC type blogs, would that help?
Negative, your best bet is to no rely on building links but useful, authentic content. Mentioning portals with great value and like minded vertical. Then once posted - mention them socially and through time - they and or other like minded sites will begin to reference you. Now, this does leave you open to the issue of reciprocal links - but algorithmically speaking - we may stimulate the 3 pro-dominant social back links - facebook, twitter, and google + ( while it lasts ;o)
What if I made a blog about top movies with lawyers in them or something like that, and just got links from non lawyer sites.
Once again, don't put your efforts in just link building - if it makes sense and you have done your SEO keywords analysis correctly - cater it to fit that market.
Most importantly - time is the most precious commodity in a URL's value.
Is that worth while?
I have many lead gen type sites and built them with knowledge of knowing they would take 8+ months to begin to gain traction and attention.
Hope this helps
Chenzo
In my experience with multiple domains forwarding to 1 mothership - I have seen issues with rankings and overall organic nature of all sites.
It would be best to at least place a few pages, >5 on the sister sites with authentic content - referencing the mothership with jpeg logos etc - to eliminate an un-healthy back link profile.
Your pal,
Chenzo
Alan, it is an out-dated mind set.
It is good to supply external links to authoritative social portals belonging to the web portal.
