Hi
I received an email late last night (GMT) saying one of my campaigns had updated yet looking at the campaign online says last updated on the 13th ? Normally my campaigns have fully updated for the week by Wednesday latest.
Other Notifications & Misc Queries:
A Key Words on-page score has increased from 36 to 96 (these used to be letters, has grading changed ?) yet no on-page work has been carried out on this particular page for many months so how can it change so radically, is it just that Moz crawler has only just taken note of it ?
When is the on-page opportunities section going to be complete/fixed (as in include a KW) i asked about this soon after it was launched but still lacks the all important kw to give it meaning/a useful tool. Am i right in thinking that until it includes the kw its totally meaningless ?
When clicking Question Category (below) i cant change slection after clicking a radio button it cant be un-clicked, is this prob my side or yours ?

Ah ok its Open Graph so is meta data to do with social accounts, cool thanks Thomas !
However just to be clear your screenshot is for a different page from the one im referring to! Im taling about the 'Account' tab page with a list of fields for all social URL's , is this still what its for , letting G know and adding open graph ? Since if so seems a bit strange to have a whole new page/tab for this when the information has been added via the other social account specific tabs.pages already - surely Yoast can pull the data from these to compile the file and add OG, if they are both for same reason surely duplicating what's required which makes me think the 'Account' page servers another or an additional function, what do you think ?
So do you agree if i have multilingual sub sites (Wordpress Multi User envrionment) then I should enter the language specific social accounts into the appropriate language sub site Yoast OR as per the sentence at the top of Yoast page: "...pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below", just put the main social accounts in here. Im trying to work out if when they say main here they mean the original main English social account ?
Also re this part of Yoast, in regard to adding a Facebook admin, is that just to access FB Insights via WP interface (if so i dont need that since access it direct) OR does this also serve another function such as adding more Open Graph to the site about the actual FB user/admin ?
Many Thanks

Hi Caxton
I had this a few times and asked MOz help and they said:
"that type of message is typically crops up when there is an issue with the level of permissions associated with the GA login info that was used to connect it. So, I would recommend making sure that it is being re-authorized with the most authoritative set of admin credentials for that GA account; ideally, the original creator of the Google Analytics account."
They also said to watch the number of GA accounts/profiles since has a token limit and once exceeded can cause connection issues. So say your accessing a a clients design agencies GA account to import your clients data into Moz, if the agency has lots of clients all with their own GA profiles in their accounts then that can cause you to exceed token limit and break the connections.
However i can always reconnect/reauthorise the connection (although very annoying that i have to every time i view a campaign), wheras sounds like you cant reconnect so prob best to email help@moz if i were you.
Hope this helps a bit !

Thanks Donald !
OK cool thanks for the info, sounds interesting i hadnt heard of that before, is this something specific to Yoast only ?
Re: language version sub-sites, even if it says: "...pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below"
Many Thanks
Dan
Hi
When you click: Social within Yoast plugin it defaults to 'Account' tab and displays a list of fields to enter your social media account urls. Sentence above list says: "To inform Google about your social profiles, we need to know their URLs. For each, pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below"
What does that mean exactly and does it effect links on the site etc or literally is just Yoast telling G ?
Also if you have sub sites for different language versions (WP on Multi User setup), which in turn have their own language specific social media account versions , should you enter those urls in the sub site language version own Yoast plugin fields OR , as per "...pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below" use the primary social account and not the language specific social account or just leave them blank ?
Many Thanks

also ive checked with some other page admins and they are definatly not seeing that drop down option for this or other pages they are admins for
nothing happens when i press print screen not having much luck with anything today am i
i use awsome screenshot and it wont capture drop down menu annoyingly !!
what screenshot soft did you use and ill try that ?
cheers
dan
thanks again Dmitri but i definately don't see that option. Since i don't do you agree this could be being phased out ?
Im not seeing it anywhere on that drop down list and have checked a couple of other pages i manage too and its just not there, do you think its being phased out and already has been for some users (also as per the penultimate comment on that SME article thread) ?
Good stuff Dimiti thanks for that !!
All good up until point 5 where i dont see a 'suggest page' option , where do you see that in the list of friends after you click invite friends or somewhere else ?
all best
dan
Ah ! Good tip ! Thanks but in this case the brand is actually unheard of since brand new b2b biz being launched into Turkey so no brand related kw search volume yet. Hence i will use Turkish language of brand name and hyphenate.
Thanks again and have a top weekend !!
HI Dimitri
yes i have also tried firefox and same issue , the loading box pops up and swirls around a bit (to indicate a dialogue box is about to load) but then just disapears.
I presume if pop ups were not enabled the dialogue box would not even begin to load ?
cheers

Hi
Im trying to use the invite friends feature on Facebook pages to send a page invite to some email contacts, as per #3 in this SME recent post of FB tips: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/five-lesser-known-facebook-page-features-for-marketers
However whenever i click the 'invite friends' option the dialogue box swirls for a bit then disapears and nothing whatsoever happens, not just not being able to see invite email options but nothing at all happens, the loading box just disapears.
Does anyone know if this is a current know issue bug or other way of doing this so it works ? (I have tried on 3 different pages)
Many Thanks
Dan
Hi Kate
That's great thanks so much for confirming
Yes i have asked client if they can get a Turkish speaker/assistant etc there to edit the Turkish home page content and make it more 'social' for facebook users.
Cool re mission etc makes sense, but guess if they do a good job of the long descrip can copy and paste the appropriate sections of that into those.
Re vanity url - thankfully the brand name includes primary target kw i.e. 'Franks Leisure Centers' so for example will change Turkish FB page name & vanity url to: 'Franks Eğlence Merkezleri' (Which is Turkish for 'Leisure Centers'), make sense ? Do you think should still add 'Turkey' to end though ?
One final question re URL - whats best practice for FB urls, to hyphenate or not ? So /Franks-Eğlence-Merkezleri/ or /FranksEğlenceMerkezleri/ I presume same as any other url which is to hyphenate ? I understand some peeps recommend not so its easy to describe to people what your FB page address is but ive never ever heard of anyone asking anyone else what their FB page url is and presume best to concentrate on best practice urls structure as one would for a website (& hyphenate) ?
Sorry for more questions and thanks for all your great help !

Hey Gianluca
Thanks so much for commenting again (this isn't the first time you have helped me out ) !!
Any ideas how i find out what else i need to do so the GSC populates with data ? There is a profile set up in GSC for all the language versions, its just the Turkish version (the only language version in a sub-folder) is not being populated with any data so must be something missing in the set up maybe/not properly completed, such as something required for properly finish the set up/integration of a sub-folders on GSC so that it shows data.
UPDATE - I have just seen that the GSC Turkish a/c im looking at is for a www version so if the Turkish language sub sites actually non www that will explain why im not seeing any data i presume ?
Re HTTP/s - The site was originally non secure so there is an older http profile for the main site/domain. Re www and non www - Weirdly the Turkish version is not www but the others are all on www. This was due to some reason the devs couldn't avoid (to do with domain mapping since on WP multisite the way it works forces it to have to be on the non-www. site as that is not used for anything else, apparently). BUT all site maps and canonicals were amended to HTTPS and all indexed pages and rankings are for pages that are the correct https and (www or non www) versions and has been like this since March when it was all set up, so presume shouldn't have to do more here in the various GSC accounts if that's the case ?
Many Thanks
Dan
Thanks Oleg !
Yes 'links to site' is of value to me (although i do have other link tools to see this info i like to see what Google is perceiving). But ideally as much of the rest of GSC data too, such as indexed pages etc etc

Hi,
Im just setting up a FB fan page for a client
How terrible is it to use clients websites home page descriptive copy as the Facebook page long description ? Language is in Turkish which i don't speak so i'm not able to edit a new version of it just for FB and no budget to hire Turkish speaker to come up with something. So was going to copy & paste but that would be duplicate with HP obviously.
How important is it to fill in 'Mission Statement' & 'General About' ? Especially if long description likely to already include that info ? I think long descrip is important for FB pages on seo etc etc but a good one eliminates importance of 'Mission' & 'General About', or is it still advisable to fill these in or are they just extra boxes for flexibility ?
I take it when it comes to securing a vanity url (once we hit 25+ fans) for a foreign language version FB page it should ideally be brand name (which includes a keyword) in the local/target language ?
The page name is already the brand name in English but since contains keyword is it best to rename into local target language similarly to the url for consistency and local targeting or better to keep one in Turkish and one in English ?
Many Thanks
Dan
HI
I've got a clients site set which targets 3 language/countries:
English via the main site on the domain.com
Turkish via a Turkish language site on a subfolder domain.com/tr/
And German via domain.de
The devs have set up .com and .de in GSC and is reporting data in both
However there's no data in the domain/com/tr GSC profile ! Is that because its on a subfolder so data pertaining to it is being reported in the main domain.com GSC account ? Or does something more need to be done to set up the Turkish subfolder in GSC ? If so what ?

Just in case anyone's reading this or generally interested since may have encountered same issues, for the account in question this now seems to be resolved
Just found out this a known issue !
C'mon Google pull your finger out you should have notices over Search Console where its a known issue so we don't spend so much time trying to try and fix something that's not broken!!!
Hi
I've just done my usual Monday morning review of clients Google Search Console (previously Webmaster Tools) dashboard and disturbed to see that for 1 client the Site Map section is reporting 95 pages submitted yet only 2 indexed (last time i looked last week it was reporting an expected level of indexed pages) here. It says the sitemap was submitted on the 10th March and processed yesterday. However in the 'Index Status' its showing a graph of growing indexed pages up to & including yesterday where they numbered 112 (so looks like all pages are indexed after all). Also the 'Crawl Stats' section is showing 186 pages crawled on the 26th.
Then its listing sub site-maps all of which are non HTTPS (http) which seems very strange since the site is HTTPS and has been for a few months now and the main sitemap index url is an HTTPS: https://www.domain.com/sitemap_index.xml The sub sitemaps are:http://www.domain.com/marketing-sitemap.xmlhttp://www.domain.com/page-sitemap.xmlhttp://www.domain.com/post-sitemap.xmlThere are no 'Sitemap Errors' reported but there are 'Index Error' warnings for the above post-sitemap, copied below:_"When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some of the URLs were unreachable. Please check your webserver for possible misconfiguration, as these errors may be caused by a server error (such as a 5xx error) or a network error between Googlebot and your server. All reachable URLs will still be submitted." _
Also for the below site map URL's: "Some URLs listed in this Sitemap have a high response time. This may indicate a problem with your server or with the content of the page" for:http://domain.com/en/post-sitemap.xmlANDhttps://www.domain.com/page-sitemap.xmlAND https://www.domain.com/post-sitemap.xmlI take it from all the above that the HTTPS sitemap is mainly fine and despite the reported 0 pages indexed in GSC sitemap section that they are in fact indexed as per the main 'Index Status' graph and that somehow some HTTP sitemap elements have been accidentally attached to the main HTTPS sitemap and the are causing these problems. What's best way forward to clean up this mess ? Resubmitting the HTTPS site map sounds like right option but seeing as the master url indexed is an https url cant see it making any difference until the http aspects are deleted/removed but how do you do that or even check that's what's needed ? Or should Google just sort this out eventually ? I see the graph in 'Crawl > Sitemaps > WebPages' is showing a consistent blue line of submitted pages but the red line of indexed pages drops to 0 for 3 - 5 days every 5 days or so. So fully indexed pages being reported for 5 day stretches then zero for a few days then indexed for another 5 days and so on ! ? Many ThanksDan

They also offer a premium listing so i presume those ones may be perceived as paid links and potentially be risky if done the same way ?

If so then that should be fine for an unpaid listing but they also offer a premium listing so i presume those ones may be perceived as paid links and potentially be risky ?

Hi,
Im creating some listings for a client on a relevant b2b directory (a good quality directory)
I asked if the links are 'followed' or no 'followed' and they said they are 'server side redirects' so no direct links.
Does anyone know how these are likely to be perceived by Google ?

Brilliant ! thanks so much for all that great info i really appreciate it !!
However the Mozbar highlighting doesn't have an effect on links in graphics like banners etc, only on text type links etc as far as i can see. Am i missing something here ?

Hi Clever PHD dont spose you can advise in regard to my last question (or anyone else in MOz team) ....That Moz bar can look at elements beyond the page level so i can determine if banner ads on a page have been 'no followed' ?
Also if these links are showing up in GWT/Search console does that mean that they are 'followed' or does search console show all links it finds ?
Cheers
dan
Which bit of it will ? thought MOzbar just looks at the page (rather than specific elements of it, like a banner ad) ?
cheers
dan
any tips for quickly checking if an ad has a 'no follow' on its link i.e. a browser based tool etc ?
much appreciated !

cool thanks for confirming cleverphd !
so as far as you know (and practice) most seo's will tell their clients to 'no follow' any banner ad campaigns they are carrying out etc ?
also is it now standard best practice to expect publishers when selling banner ad campaigns to 'no follow' their ads as standard ?

Hi,
Please can someone remind me how links in display ads are perceived by G ?
A client of mine has purchased a display campaign with an industry related on-line publication that has lead to a massive spike in reported back links in Google Search Console (the new GWT). Does Google automatically identify these as ads (due to tracker codes etc) rather than paid backlinks or should they, like links in press releases, be no-followed or other advice ?
Cheers
Dan
sorry bit confused now since title tags are meta tags ?
Hi Edward
Sorry for the delayed response went on a brief holiday
Ok i have had a look via the Moz Bar extension at the meta data for each country region and im seeing the same title tag load up on each geographic top level Home Page which would certainly explain this issue.
I'm seeing this title tag on all 3 home pages:

Are you looking at rankings manually on Google results pages OR via rank tracking type software (such as Moz) ?
If the former then have you deleted history/cache etc and/or searched in incognito mode etc etc to help filter out subjective considerations like search & surfing history etc to try and make the results as objective as possible?, since if not that could be skewing the results ?
Have you geo targeted the websites to their target countries in Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) ?
In addition you can also apply 'hreflang' country/language attributes to further try & control which regional search results the various country versions appear in (but only of you definately don't want them appearing in US results too)
Just a few thoughts hope they help a bit !

Good Morning Ian
Oh i see ! in that case then yes Screaming Frog would be a good way of seeing what pages have been optimised for what target keywords. Quake probably too although i havnt used that myself for a long while. Also for a quick browser based view of what a page is optimised for is SEOXRay if its still going. As well as Jasons advice to look at OpenExplorer backlink anchor text profiles, although for new sites are unlikely have developed much of a backlink profile and OE wont have indexed all backlinks/pages so i would still concentrate on looking at the on-page optimisation.
All Best
Dan
Hi Ian,
The Moz on-page grader will grade a page for a given keyword and provide a breakdown of important page elements that contain the keyword, and indeed if theres too much keyword usage as well as providing helpful insights and advice in regard to keyword usage for said page elements.
Overall a more holistic and more thorough approach for on-page optimisation than simply looking at just frequency and prominence.
So, unless your looking to carry out specific testing in regard to frequency and prominence, Moz on page grader should provide you with better information & guidance.
Hope this helps

So IYO prob is best if i turn privacy on rather than 'potentially' show an administrative relationship by having same details ?
Thanks Patrick !
So having whois data same for two interlinking sites could negate or heavily reduce any link benefit since they do likely use it to determine administrative relationship ? so should turn privacy on except that can also reduce trust in the domain!
So any ideas which is the least worse option if that is the case ? reducing the trust via privacy on option or admitting an admin relationship between the sites via whois option ?
All Best
Dan
Thanks for the quick response Andy !
So your saying that if i use 'who is privacy on' for the new site, it shouldn't have a negative effect for that sites seo BUT Google doesn't look at 'WhoIs' info to establish an administrative relationship between two sites anyway, hence there's no need to use it since same whois details shouldn't cause any issues?
Hi
Do you think Google looks at WhoIs details as a contributing factor to establishing an adminsitrative relationship between two domains (in addition to being hosted on similar hosts/IP blocks etc), and in regard to linkbuilding would having teh same whois details on both sites have a negative effect or be perfectly ok (if the sites are on different hosts/ip blocks) ?
Also do you think whois privacy turned on has a negative effect on trust and subsequent seo ?
Considering the answer to the above two questions: Do you think its a good or bad idea to have domain reg/whois ‘privacy’ turned on for a site of curated content relating to the project/primary sites niche, and linking to this site for contextual link benefit ?
Im building out a site of curated content that i want to perform well in-itself as well as providing backlink benefit to the primary site but worried if they both have same whois details will cause seo problems or would that only be if also had same host/ip footprint ?
Should i enable whois privacy, use a different address for reg, or actually make a point of using the same whois details for transparency ?
All Best
Dan
