I can't say that I have seen any negative effects from it so far. I have done this with ecommerce sites and they havent been affected. Maybe others can share their experiences.

RE: Affiliate Programs
Hi!
Shareasale has been good. Commission Junction is also one. I've been with Click2sell for a while. Depends really on what your products are. You might even want to try Clickbank.

RE: One page templates
Templates like that usually have SEO in mind already. Those on themeforest usually do. I would always add a blog (which leads to a separate page) for clients that use 1 page templates like this, just to add to the SEO. In terms of results, I have never really encountered limitations because of the theme.
I have used something similar before for a personal project. I never liked it (personal preference, not seo related) as my users used kinda old computers and browsers so it ended up being slow.
It will probably work better for you

RE: Is Moz really able to track G+ properly
Did you mean G+ communities or Pages? Moz can track G+ pages, not communities though.
I think Moz analytics is more interested in your actual engagement on your page and leaves the stuff outside it, to you. I would advice the use of Circloscope to manage circles for communities but In terms of tracking each move you make in communities then http://www.circlecount.com/communities/ might help a little. Not much, but you might find it useful
Thanks

RE: 2-websites focused on different markets but similar content
Hi BB
I have tried this before (on different boxes though) and it didn't cause any issues.
I would still advice to at least change bits of the content if possible. The design and everything could be the same.

RE: Will I lose Ranking if I switch from Volusion to Big Commerce?
will you be able to get the same URL structures? If so then that's already a big plus to minimize your rank changes.
It will definitely happen, one way or another but once it gets fixed, things usually go back to where they were, at least for me.
I've never tried Volusion before but I have moved ecom sites over to WP, Magento etc,

RE: 301 / 404 & Getting Rid of Keyword Pages
If it's just a few pages then I don't think it should be something to worry about. I've 301'ed thousands and it never affected me before.
The problem with this though is you might have some trouble ranking for some (different) location based searches, or at least, to consistently improve after the 301's initial benefits stop.
I always stay away from 404s as much as I can. Although it doesnt really affect your SEO if the dead link is nowhere on your pages but I still dislike it, personal preference.
I won't be much help as this is all still trivial without seeing the actual pages and their functions.
Treat it as a test though, you'll learn a lot from it.

RE: Weird Page switch for a keyword in Google Rankings
This does happen. Did any of your competitors also shuffle at that time?
As long as you aren't doing anything wrong then it should be ok. You might want to look at your internal linking and links pointing to both pages that makes Google think that that page is more relevant. You could focus a little bit more on the page you want. It should return soon.
Ive experienced this before about 8 times this year already. The good page always comes back.

RE: Google Analytics: How to Track Blog Traffic that Enter the Purchase Funnel?
Hi!
You might want to try Goal Flow at least on Analytics. That might be what you are looking for.
You might want to look at Conversions -> Attribution for further data.
-
RE: How long does internationlisation take to be indexed correctly
Actually, this is pretty hard to answer. I've experienced different timeframes. Some in as short as a week but most took a couple months. It could be dependent on the country or the search term or even the site. That's based on my experience though.

RE: Why does Google Webmaster Tools report I have inbound links from over 120 different domains and OSE reports I have 7
Hi!
Much like any link checker, OSE will not show everything you have. It tries to improve the database each month but similar to ahrefs and majestic, it will not (always) be able to show 100% of your links
The best way is to actually combine the different sources, including Yandex. You'd get almost all of your links like that.

RE: Disavow Question
1. It says URL because you entered the exact page of where your link is on. If you want to disavow the whole domain since it is bad anyway, then just use
domain:thatbaddomain.com instead of the full url
2. use the domain code above.
If you want an easier way to cut to root domains, then use scrapebox, SEO Tools for excel or http://www.seoweather.com/trim-urls-to-root-domain-standardise-urls-prefixes/
Hope that helps!

RE: To Subdomain or Not Subdomain?
LOL! Don't sweat it too much.
Then I would go with a sub domain. It's easier like that in this situation. You'd have plenty of options when something changes down the road.
PS. Alan is correct, it's hard to find much proof/evidence of this posted anywhere online. It's more of a "from experience" kind of thing.
-
RE: To Subdomain or Not Subdomain?
Hi Courtney,
Such a tricky problem! You'll probably get a lot of subjective replies.
I would only use subdomains if I wanted to treat it like a different "main" product or a company under the main brand
For SEO purposes, it's better to not make it a sub domain to get the full benefits of the main domain (I'm assuming the domain is already strong) so it's only a last resort for me.

RE: Redirecting http to https, do I need to add new url to webaster tools?
Hi Jason,
That's completely normal based on my own experiences. Things will settle down soon. I didn't resubmit mine and it's working perfectly now.

RE: Google+ for Business Links Section - Not Available
Hi!
Yeah, it would be great but I guess they have their reasons.
This never became a problem for me though as I would just insert the links into the Contact Information area. It's moderated but they aren't really strict
-
RE: Authorship for articles with more than one author
Co-authorship is definitely possible.
If you are on wordpress you can use this https://wordpress.org/plugins/co-authors-plus/
It's pretty much the same concept for other platforms.

RE: Why isn't our structured markup showing in search results
Hi Pedram
The 2nd link is already showing the markup
The rest should come along eventually. I usually notice quicker changes for higher trafficked pages (higher activity and better crawled) on the sites I run. They also, sometimes appear and disappear altogether but they did tweak it recently to show more often based on the sites that I am tracking.
-
RE: Linking between properties
you'll probably get responses here to nofollow them or to remove them just to be safe.
Personally, I just don't worry about it. I've never had problems with it in the past as long as all my links are not like that.
-
RE: Page Authority and Google updates favouring websites with black hat practices ?
it depends heavily on your niche. If everyone is doing it then it means that it is lucrative and these guys will just make churn and burn domains just to cash in so it will never go away permanently.
You'll see sites come and go but eventually, you will win if you keep up the work.
-
RE: Link Building Paralysis
One of the ways I build links easily with local photographer clients is just to reach out to their own clients and get links from their sites and get shared.
Don't overthink these algorithms because that's when your productivity will get shot. I know the feeling. As long as you aren't overly using anchor text and you arent getting crappy links from networks then you shouldnt worry too much.
And you definitely have to utilise Google+. It's wonderful for photographers.

RE: Panda 4.0 Suggestions
EGOL is correct, Gordian.
Start fixing those. One the content is brand new and reindexed, it's a waiting game from there onwards. It might make you wait for the next update or you might need to look at your site structure further to find other culprits.
There's really not much Panda 4 did differently. It only improved the original Panda so the same stuff applies so hopefully, you'd get back when you fix the current issues.

RE: SEO for new product at the market
Backlinks!
Kidding aside, I would start with understanding the power of your domain vs the current competition.
If your domain authority is quite good vs the current competition, then internal linking and great on-page content will help you rank for those terms and it's variations easily.
If the competition is much more advanced in terms of SEO, then I would launch different campaigns to link back to that page in advanced. For example, an infographic (a great one) detailing and "preselling the plot" somehow. I would then market that and you'll get a lot of good links to your landing page.
Ill also make sure that landing page is quite unique and it can also be a cause for people to link to it.

RE: Seo benefits to keywords other than specifically targeted?
Hi Ruben!
It will definitely will help.
I'm assuming you will also be putting your business address on the site, so that also help identify you as part of that locality.
Aside from that, using the location on your posts will also help you rank for them.
There are other ways to specifically rank for those local terms, but I think you just wanted to know if your blog posts will rank locally/bring in local traffic.
-
RE: Panda 4.0 indirectly affecting my rankings (maybe)
Definitely.
I've seen better results for both readership and google if proper formatting is used.
I think Google would prefer it like that as well if you think about it.
I'm betting that you'd hate reading big chunks of text without any breaks, subs, media or bullets.
-
RE: Panda 4.0 indirectly affecting my rankings (maybe)
LOL, "Ok, we're going to destroy your rankings shortly. Please, invest more in Adwords afterwards."
Seriously though, I think the algo resets certain factors at the beginning, so these spammed or crappy stuffed sites will get the advantage initially and as a little time passes, the algorithm will be able to catch up and move those sites down - well, in simple terms that is. It'll take 1000 words to fully explain what I really want to say haha.
-
RE: OSE report doesn't quite reflect the fact for me?
We can't really say as we can't see the sites
OSE shouldn't be your only way of checking a site's details.
There are other factors involved, their fresh content, maybe they have old 301s, more links (OSE wont be able to see all of it) and so on.
Add to it that maybe they have better bounce/UI/UX and a better social following.
If you could share a bit more info, I think the moz community would be able to help further

RE: On Brand Queries Google does not shows my home page first instead of it shows internal pages.
Try to get more brand mentions/brand related links.
Be sure the navigation and html is optimised.
That usually solves the sitelinks part.
As for the internal page showing, from my experience, it would usually show the homepage (right below it) if it's showing the innerpage already. Since it's not, then I would look at the html, maybe there are some errors. Maybe take a look at the backlinks, too, if you have gotten a lot of links only recently. I've seen this happen before when a client got a lot of links pointing to their homepage within a short span of time. It's rare but it does happen.
There are other reasons but those are the more common ones.
-
RE: WP SEO plugin
I'm actually about to write about this lol. This happened to my site as well. Google can switch that for you. If you look at the source, it is usually what you want to be, but Google shows otherwise.
It does happen and it's pretty common. Change it to something else, something better and try to let it get indexed again. It normally shows up correctly the next time around.
-
RE: SEO For Replacement Site
We've done this before and usually, we get dips for some keywords, most will stay the same.
We prepare ourselves mentally each time we have to do this LOL. As long as the redirects/content are in-place and you provide a better user experience without affecting load speed, then we are confident enough to just go on and do it.
The rewards for the "risk" is always greater.
-
RE: Moving the site and Rebranding
There's really no "right" answer for this since I don't recall any official statement about it.
I would just move, make sure all my redirects/content are done.
Then start applying the redesign. Normally I would wait for it to be crawled but nowadays, I just jump right into the redesign after moving all the content/301's. I've never really seen big problems, normally, just small dips but it usually goes back to normal.
-
RE: Panda 4.0 indirectly affecting my rankings (maybe)
Historically, Panda does consider a lot of other stuff. I would personally wait a few weeks. Each time an algo update (a major one) happens, crap sites will always show up and in many cases, rank better than good sites.
For now, you should look at the site, see if there is anything that you can improve. Internal linking, UI/UX, speed, etc. Monitor your webmaster tools for changes in your visibility and other usual panda stuff.
If you continue to produce great stuff then you should be fine.
-
RE: Html to wordpress
I would personally just move the actual html over (yes, can be done) and redesign the page to look like the wordpress one if the page is really important. If it's just semi important, not ranking number 1 for thousands of searches, then ill just 301 it over to the new page on wordpress. Either way, I'll make sure internal linking is optimised.

RE: Removing entire site sections categories from an ecommerce store, best practices ?
Hi Dan
Not quite sure what you meant.
Just remove them from the category that you'll be removing. 301 their old URL if it changes but if it doesn't then there's no need to.
-
RE: Removing entire site sections categories from an ecommerce store, best practices ?
Gather all the pages/urls. Send them to a blog post/news post why it's not there anymore then make it easy for them to get to your other pages. OR you can just redirect them to the home page, which Richard also mentioned.

RE: Dupliacate page content from Moz which I need soem help with
Do a 301 to one.
Be sure that your whole website uses just one of the 2. Pick from the www or non-www one.
As long as you can access both, Moz will keep showing you that you have duplicate content.
-
RE: Triberr / Thoughts?
Definitely try it. It has great reach and you'd be surprised how good the community is. Test it out for a while, you'll see that it's good.
-
RE: Sitemap Question
Hi Brandon,
No, it shouldn't be an issue at all. I have it like that for a lot of the sites I run so it's not a big deal
If you feel uncomfortable with it, switch over to a separate plugin and deactivate the yoast one. I know a lot of people that do so (usually because they are comfortable using /sitemap.xml LOL)
-
RE: What should go in a "Link Juice" cocktail?
that sounds DELIGHTFUL. haha
I'd like to give that a try....or maybe test it on one of the interns
-
RE: What should go in a "Link Juice" cocktail?
we usually just stick with ColdBrews (seo's = coffee lovers = ultimate internet profile cliche)
I can't think of anything to relate with SEO/links at the moment, but I could do with anything with a Gin base right now. TGIF.
-
RE: Switch to www from non www preference negatively hit # pages indexed
There shouldnt be any problem with incoming links because of that.
As William said though, you will see some changes, but you will recover. Sometimes, it will take a long time to fully get Google to index the correct urls so don't jump the gun. Decide and stick with one.
-
RE: Manual submission vs automated submission to social bookmarking sites for blog posts
I really don't see any problems with it based on experience but I would suggest sticking with acquiring eyeballs, engaging and getting them to share if for you instead of having each post getting shared on the same accounts. That "might" be a potential problem down the road, especially if you have a lot of them, including the pliggs..ughh.
-
RE: SEO for interior page
Yes, it's possible to be penalised for a single page or single keyword.
Your page has mostly san diego domestic violence lawyer as the anchor text. You might want to stop doing that altogether.
I didnt take a look at your competitors though so they might be more SEO, but there's a possibility that you got a minor penalty for that keyword phrase.
-
RE: Site that's 301 redirected is ranking for brand
Yes, like Keri said. The 301 might not be working.
It's actually normal for google to index 301ed domains. Ive seen it more than a handful of times. So it's probably a matter of time before it disappears.
-
RE: Authorship Not Displaying
Hi!
Are you active on google+?
If you are, with a good following, you should get your image back.
They will email you that you are now showing up as an author or something like that.
Although this doesn't apply to everyone, this has been what has worked for me.
-
RE: Should sub domains to organise content and directories?
I would definitely lean on organizing the whole site's structure.
It's actually easier for you in the long run with promotions and all (Plus fixes since they will have different code)
Also, Google results will show your structure well, especially with breadcrumbs.
-
RE: Is it a bad idea to use our meta description as a short description of a product on that product page?
A lot of companies actually do this but I would suggest doing it separately (with great page content) as it has given me the best results with all the ecom sites we've worked with, even without link building.
There's actually no duplicate issues there as I haven't seen one yet for that situation.
-
RE: Why is Google suddenly not Ranking my page in a second language in its appropriate target country?
were you building any links/mentions/links from the website - to it? It's possible that you have done more "brand" work for the other page. Google won't show 2 facebook pages (almost never, i guess) if the niche/keyword has other relevant pages.
