I used http://wordpress.org/plugins/nofollow-for-external-link/ or SEO Smart Links before just to do mass no follow. For affiliate sites that i didnt want to bother with anymore.

RE: Link profile
1. Should i stop worrying about backlinks that i once had and now the websites is down or page is 404
- I would, because if it's a lot then you lost a lot of links there. Usually a sign of blog networks
2. The link is nofollow
- No problem with this one
3. Also i have 60% of my site links few root link and many articles/blogs links pasted in sites without any anchor text, should i worry about them?
- copied? Scraper sites are natural, the important part is that you keep track of them. If it gets out of hand, be prepared to disavow them or email them to remove them

RE: Moz metrics are better than top10 competitors but still no progress
Hi Mark,
Im not talking about DA and PA. Anyway, I just took a quick look and didnt really have to look long. At the site's current state, could go up to #7 short term, and #1 is definitely possible. All im saying is that right now, most of them are still ahead. Like I said, I didnt do any onpage audits, nor analyse the existing links.

RE: Moz metrics are better than top10 competitors but still no progress
Hi Mark
Since you said your on-page and technical details are already good, i took a look at the competitors, sadly, it looks like they are winning with domain trust/power
They just have a lot more even if you have more links to the actual page, they have more power on their domain, sorta like amazon.
I dont doubt that you will get there though as an optimised page with links will usually beat out authority sites that has little seo done to their inner pages
Keep up the work, youll get there.

RE: How Popular is Google Image Search?
We run multiple travel sites and food sites and it's pretty clear that images still bring in lots of traffic.
As for e-commerce, I will have to look at it later. Seems like a possibility as buyer tendencies are indeed changing nowadays
Oh, it does even more traffic for the celebrities/girls niches. And in many cases, more than actual SERP results.

RE: Moz metrics are better than top10 competitors but still no progress
Hmm, usually, it's a map or something big that pushes worthy sites down. Im assuming you are at Page 2 ATM. I will ignore the fact of links for the mean time.
Im also assuming that you are working on a local business? So do you have local citations built and are the competing sites mostly inner pages of strong domains? Is your domain new? Or newly redesigned?

RE: Deindexing Archive Subpages?
if you go to your subpages, can you check the source if it's noindex? If it's not, then there's a conflict with the plugin, probably with the theme (and rarely, another plugin)
Let's start with that
-
RE: Dealing with Not Found errors
Hi John
Mark it as fixed in webmaster tools
After that, just leave it alone for a week or so. Once your site is recrawled, youll see that it's not there anymore (as long as it's really fixed)
-
RE: Meta keywords confusion: include none, 3, 5, 20?
Dont bother with it. It's not really important. You can rank fine without them
You will find it confusing since most sites that are old and ranking will probably have them lol.
-
RE: Could a partial repost outrank my original post?
Hi Graeme
No need to worry about it. Either way, youll get the extra traffic which is a bonus
-
RE: Moz Netiquette
oh man that's true. I get about 3 a day right now, wonder how many the others get by now LOL
Marketing to marketers using bad marketing skills = Not a good campaign

RE: Spamlink attack wat to do
ah, no follows... according to Google, it doesnt pass anything but from experiments, it does pass and influence rankings. Some would say other wise.
truthfully, nobody really knows the definite answer to the question you are asking
You disavow it, you dip, then who's fault is it?
You dont disavow it, you dip, then who's fault is it?
Nobody would even really give you a concrete answer to this so people won't reply.
Personally, I would look at your competitors. See the % of spam they have (which is probably a lot since you are in that niche) vs their overall link portfolio then weigh your options if you want to disavow them. Whichever you choose, all the while building strong links. Those spam links are usually just non-anchored links so it does lower the chances of them becoming a problem. If you have time, you might also want to look at competitors that are receiving the same domain links, you might find the root of the problem or see how their sites react to the negative spam.
-
RE: XML Sitemap Leads to loss in ranking and traffic in Google.
just leave it. Double check for errors on it.
-
RE: Spamlink attack wat to do
straight up disavow them, although some links could indeed pass as good links
Personally, Ive seen attacks like this stop within a few days. I would look at your website for any sort of hacking. Invisible links on the page are usually the main thing. They spam you after getting the links on your site.
-
RE: XML Sitemap Leads to loss in ranking and traffic in Google.
if it was indeed caused by submitting the sitemap, its too late for you to worry about it. My vote, another coincidence. Ive actually experienced this twice and i got my rankings back by analysing where i went wrong with the tech/structure.
With an alexa like that, you probably have a big site. Try to find a "main" problem and fix that first rather than going for different changes all at one time.
-
RE: Block a country, will affect my ranking?
no, not really. Ive had some up for years, not really a problem.
-
RE: Weird SERPS
Ive had experienced that multiple times with clients lol
- First thing I would do is check the competition. IF it's harder than the rest of the other cities/localities. Some cities have specific keywords that work better, too. Local is very easy to spam so there might be some competitors that are battling it out there. You might just be collateral damage from the recent updates to local.
- The next thing i would look at is how search results show. Is google showing you different serp results vs the other cities? Google might show more images/carousels or whatever for that city vs the others. Google is crazy like that.
- Links. Start building links (just a few of them will do) to test and see if you improve within the next week. If you do, then you need to start bothering yourself with competition + link building for that lol
Those are the basic things that id do first, assuming, like what you said, that everything on-page related and technical side are ok.
-
RE: Url structure
from all my years, there's really no difference for me. I would suggest using the "-" for your internal content url structures since it would make it easier for readers to understand but i would advice against the dash on the main domain name.
-
RE: Any Effect From Little to no External Links?
I would ignore that problem since its a pretty small niche. Google wont even think of doing anything in a very small niche since it wont be able to show much relevant links so its forced to show your site no matter what. But like Chris said, it generally, youll need to do it for building relationships and citing authoritative websites.
-
RE: Backlinking 3 sites from same domain and backlinking main site too
i cant really answer that because i do not see the purpose of other sites. Reciprocal links arent really needed but you might just be thinking of maybe the 3 will pass link juice back to the main site. Honestly, you can just do it. It's just a few and it doesnt really matter at this moment. Just focus on other link building work instead of worrying about it
Good luck Gagan

RE: Organic Google Sitelinks - can I edit?
you mean the sitelinks that show up below the result of your site?
If yes, then you can go to google webmaster tools and remove that by inserting the URL that you dont want to show up in the SERPS.
-
RE: Rel Publisher Tag is showing in SERPS, with Rel Author Picture
they are testing things right now but what you see with authorship is pretty normal. If you homepage shows both rel author and rel publisher, it will show the author most of the time. They dont show the logo/publisher picture in the serps normally but they have started testing it recently.

RE: Site Doing Horrible After Redesign
Definitely a possible reason as you are already losing traffic from it already. Something you should look at ASAP. Those pages should be redirecting to the correct, new pages so I'm wondering why they werent properly 301'ed. Was the 301 service only sending your previous homepage to the new homepage and not per page? (Or even old pages to the new homepage)
-
RE: Site Doing Horrible After Redesign
When we handle big sites like this, there are a lot of possible problems that we face, some of which are
- the traditional ecommerce problem of "unique content" - maybe generic content or copied from a supplier (not saying you are doing this, Im just putting it out there)
- another traditional problem with category pages and it's contents
These 2 could affect rankings. Honestly, 404's dont matter much for us unless it's a vital part of the site, not on any pages of the site or if it had a lot of links pointing to it previously
if it's worthless, we just let them die, so GWT can stop bugging us with it by next year lol.
The 301 is actually the first thing that could be blamed as it might not be able to pass the same juice as it could before all the algo updates. You could try restoring the old site on a new CMS that you choose and run this side by side but it might be too much trouble.

RE: How to make a bad posting drop down the search engines
Go for exact match domains, web 2.0 blogs and profiles, and social profiles. Make them legitimate and link to them (or interlink them)
Some should get traction and push the article down. It sucks, but people like that exist in this world, but karma is a b*tch and they will pay for it
-
RE: Site Doing Horrible After Redesign
Have you continued link building work on the current domain ever since you 301'ed it? It's really a tricky situation. It could be due to old links on the original domain (especially after penguin in may and the monthly pandas)
If you are sure that the technical issues are the main cause for your drops, then you better move it. Magento is actually pretty seo friendly and since you have a dev, then it's even easier. I would not recommend wordpress for big ecommerce sites so it will depend on your site's size.
-
RE: Old landing page modifications - should I change the content?
I would just update the content. If it's already irrelevant then youll see more users leaving. I wouldnt worry about it losing traffic because of that. You might actually be able to get more traffic once its properly optimised with other keywords that you've already gotten using analytics from past traffic.
-
RE: Getting out of Google's Penguin
Hi
thats a pretty small drop. Not really penalty worthy. Build better links and drive more traffic. Plus, the algorithm is still changing now, so you will see changes within the next few weeks. Start building the good links now.

RE: Need to know alternate ways to promote a Weekly Campaign
You have a lot of options actually
1. Start with your most basic ones, which are social platforms. Advertise, promote, SEO, reach out. This gets the ball rolling quick for new sites with a competitive niche like this
2. Content creation and marketing - create an infographic, start an epic storyline post or whatever that your target market would like. Segment them first. For example, there's a good chance someone looking for the service is dating someone. Why not create a content piece about the best ways to impress a girl he's dating with things he can do along with a "surprise" flower delivery.
3. Promotion and contests - maybe you can do a weekly special, like customising certain products for the receiver.
4. the usual SEO - this is probably the longest in terms of ROI but it's the most important long term.
There a lot more you can do which is limited to your imagination and budget. I know other mozers here have other creative or traditional things in their mind that will also help a lot.

RE: Backlinks From Scraper Sites - Should I Disavow Them?
Personally, I wouldnt. Scrapers have been around for years and it's "natural" in my eyes. all the good sites out there, even moz, have thousands upon thousands of scraper sites linking to them. I it's about penguin, then id look into the other links deeper.
For client work I do, I just disavow them if the DA of the site is below 30. LOL.
-
RE: Hotel Booking Engine Hosting and SEO
i also run a hundred hotel sites that has that, it doesnt really matter SEO wise. I would test it and look into conversions instead. Good luck!
-
RE: Fashion store is throbbing ....
if you see no fault then its probably the "new page ranking high and dropping all of the sudden" phenomenon lol which was explained
1. Check your drop, when it happened, if it's around may 21-22 and onwards, then look at your link profile (which is full of directory links) so Im not saying that it caused it, but it could've.
2. moz page grader is not your answer to onpage seo and actual rankings, it's just a way to quickly analyse the basics. You need to do more, especially on sites like yours.
your site looks cool though

RE: Ecommerce Duplicate Product Descriptions across 3 websites
Hi Roy
I would make sure the descriptions are different on each. If not, at least make the one's on your page different.
Next would be to make sure your categories have unique description/content as well. It goes a long way.
BTw, no, it's not going to be a duplicate penalty, it will just help you rank them all better and easier.
and with the current tests of google omitting results, you might get your site omitted instead of the copies.
You might also want to take a look at pinterest with your ecom site. Their new changes are amazing

RE: Exclude Noindex, Followed pages from sitemap?
then that makes things easier then
-
RE: Exclude Noindex, Followed pages from sitemap?
There's no need to have them in the sitemap. If you have them there then its not really a big deal but just try to remove it when you can. If you have a page sitemap, then you can add them in if you wanted to.
-
RE: My New blog has NO content since 2 months, the day it was launch, What to DO? Is it "DEAD"???
it doesnt matter. Like they said, just continue to write
here's a tip, especially for starting blogs, it helps a lot if you be consistent with the amount of posts and content you produce.
-
RE: Any Suggestions For My Site?
i would start with your canonical issues
decide also if you want to keep your pagination pages indexed
your meta details need tweaking
you have some www and non www redirect problems
no meta robots
fix your sitemap
image alt tags
and few more
hope that helps

RE: Using the Moz to weed out bad backlinks
Just using OSE? I would arrange the links you export by PA. Start with the lowest number and work your way up removing the good looking links so you are left with the bad links
If you want to use other tools, you can use scrapebox, or even http://nielsbosma.se/projects/seotools/ to detect their PR first. (or better yet, check if the link is indexed in google before checking PR)
If it's deindexed, then you dont have to bother wasting your time on it. Put it on a separate list and contact for removal once you are done sorting out the links. If the link is not present anymore but the site is bad, disavow it.
PS. I would also export links from google webmaster tools
-
RE: Is it good to have a few outbound links to good authority sites?
you dont have to force yourself. If it's relevant why not? Just make it open in a new window
-
RE: Odd Link Removal Request
If they meant it - its probably due to them being frustrated with the reconsideration request. I went through the same thing before until i disavowed everything and the site was released from the penalty. So yeah, a lazy mistake on my part back then but i learned from it, and i wouldnt know any better if i didnt do it
-
RE: Blogger vs wordpress from SEO perspective
Both are good. You cant go wrong with them. It's more of a preference. Ive made both rank so it's not really a problem.
If I was starting from scratch though with no capital (back then free site platforms were very bad) I would go with Google+ and blog there directly lol focusing on G+ now and create the brand there would be what I'd do Then I would host some content on a personal blog or wordpress/blogspot.

RE: Expand your google plus circle
Like matt said. Just find out where they hang out.
Find influencers and ask for them to take a look and maybe recommend it. (or even pay)
