Neither. I would try to group/categorize them. If this is not possible at all, then probably scrolling.

RE: Long list or paginated pages
Hi there.
Well, my friend, nobody in the world likes scrolling, that's why there are lots of statistical case studies about above-the-fold view and how important it is. I believe that the number is around 80% of users don't scroll. However, it's not true for mobile users - they are "trained" to scroll.
So, my answer would be no, don't use a lot of scrolling, if possible, leave everything above the fold or use something like typeform.com style.

RE: Ranking for "personal trainer agency london"
Hi there.
_ I don't feel comfortable doing it this way as it goes against what I believe is good SEO_
Not true at all. Good SEO is exactly about this - good related content. In your case it's a little difficult, since it's international company and all. But the thing is that simply having local listings will not make you rank for local results, unless your brand is directly associated with the keyphrase you're trying to rank for.
I would recommend to have not just 1 contact page per location and that's it, but have somewhat unique content for each location (or at least each major area).

RE: Google index
Uhm.. If you got hit by penalty, just re-indexing the website without any content/backlink profile changes will not do anything. To recover from penalty, you would need to find out what penalty it was, then change a lot of stuff on your website.
If you decide to dump old website whatsoever and build new one, don't redirect the old one to new, since, if there was a penalty, associating with old website is not a good idea.
There are several articles on MOZ about recovering, read them all

RE: Google index
Hi there.
I believe that temporarily removing urls wouldn't affect the future ranking possibilities. However, it will take longer to get indexed, if you compare, lets say to brand new page indexing.
Here is my question/suggestion though: I assume there was a good reason for you to deindex those urls, so why do you want to bring them back? Would it be better for you to use brand new urls for brand new pages?

RE: September's Mozscape Update Broke; We're Building a New Index
The same story here. Quite honestly, I think that last index was very much messed up, probably due to broken index before that. So, I gave up on it and simply waiting for next scheduled one - on 11/17.

Thanks for reply.
Yeah, that's the way I'm going to do if can't find any better solution.

RE: Google Analytics goals by source report?
I thought of this way - but figured there should be easier (less bulkier) way to do this. Well, I guess if nobody else has any suggestions, I'll do that.

RE: Google Analytics goals by source report?
Hi. Thanks for reply.
No, it's not. The problem is that i have 20+ clients, each of them have 3-5 goals, so, I would like to send them a report of goals by source. Also, for our own website we have 18 goals - switching the way you suggest (and that's the way I am doing) is very time consuming and somewhat difficult to see the whole picture.
Hope this makes sense.

Google Analytics goals by source report?
Hello everybody.
Is there way in Google analytics to create report on what goals have been completed per each source?
Example:
Lets say I have 3 goals: Subscription, Purchase, Quote.
How can I get report, saying something like this:
google / organic - Subscription - 5 conversions
Purchase - 3 conversions
Quote - 10 conversionsand so on.
P.S. Basically, I want the reverse of standard Google Analytics goal completions report, where you can click on goal and see which sources/mediums completions came from. I'd like to do the opposite - "click" on source/medium and see which goals have been completed.
Thanks

RE: Why isn't OSE showing any of my links?
hmmm... I'm not sure then. Our website is https and we have several clients with https - all of them are working fine.
Have you tried other tools? like ahrefs or majestics to see if those links you're looking for are indicated in those tools?
-
RE: Why isn't OSE showing any of my links?
Hi there.
We have https website as well and I have been facing similar problems. Well, there can be several reasons:
- MOZ crawling has a limit in resources - they don't crawl every possible website and link on the internet. As it says here: basically only top websites and top pages on those websites are being crawled. That's one of the reasons you rarely see listings like yahoo in your url profile in moz ose. So, this might be the same scenario in your case.
- MOZ crawling has a schedule - it happens about every month. So, if your backlinks are indexed after last crawl date - there is no way it will appear in ose.
- The backlink is to http version of your website. It can result in moz not registering the backlink to https, but rather to http version of your site. Try running OSE for http version, see if there is any difference.
- Backlinks simply hasn't been indexed yet. If a backlink coming from the page, buried deep on deep-buried website, it will take a while for indexing.
I would recommend using other tools for backlink profiling, at least to check if backlinks you are looking for have been crawled and indexed. Even though MOZ has ose, backlink profiling is not their main field.
Hope this helps.

RE: How to switch from URL based navigation to Ajax, 1000's of URLs gone
Hi there.
If I understand your situation correctly - now filters for products have actual urls and you want to use filters with ajax on the same url - then yes, just do redirects. However, you can't do redirect to ajax filter, so you'd be redirecting to categories, I guess. 4xx surely is not the way to go, as well as option 1 you suggesting, since it would result in 404s.
Maybe canonical links could help - not sure though. I say go with 301s.
-
RE: Redirect for Soft 404 or 404?
Hi there.
I think that from Google bots' point of view, it doesn't matter soft 404 or "hard" 404. However, as you said to user it would be better to have soft 404s. So, my suggestion would be keep soft 404s and fix them properly when found.

RE: Duplicate/ <title>element too long issues</title>
Hi there.
One different character is enough However, what's the point of having such titles whatsoever? Titles supposed to tell users (in SERPs) what the page is about, and if every result from your domain would say "The same thing +date", how is it useful, and how is gonna benefit your SEO?
I understand that writing unique titles can be time consuming, but isn't any SEO work?
-
RE: can we include iframe content if we properly reference the source in the url?
Hi there.
I am a little confused - you want to use iframe on duplicate website to hide the duplication? If so - it looks very spammy and shady. I assume that new website you want to produce has enough unique content and value, otherwise you will have many troubles with penalizations and stuff.

RE: Intro to programming/coding for seo
Hi there.
I don't think there is any specific courses for technical SEO, since it includes html, css, js, jquery, php and more.
I think you would be better off trying to find lessons/guides for specific programming languages your website is built on, rather than trying to learn everything at the same time.
As for APIs - the same thing - there are lots of good tutorials for specific APIs, but to use them you need to know some of programming languages, since all APIs are based on one or another programming language.
So, my advice - find out which languages your website is built on, what API it uses and what language that APIs is operating with (most likely it will be the same as your website platform language), then find some crash course online for that language, spend couple weeks learning it - then you should be able to do simple technical SEO changes.
Hope this helps.

RE: Can forwarding users from one domain to a different domain damage rank and authority of first domain?
Hi there.
Well, to answer your question in title of this question - no. Forwarding by itself doesn't effect rank or authority. However, in your situation, it might be the case due to bouncing or so called pogo-sticking. It's well known that pogo sticking is really bad and nobody wants it. Here is a WBF about it: https://moz.com/blog/solving-the-pogo-stick-problem-whiteboard-friday
Also, since you use flash - and that can be bad by itself due to incompatibility, long loading times and so on - I assume your website is not mobile either. Another bad sign for Google.
Now, my questions to you are:
- How are your rankings for new domain? are they dropping? Is old domain rising?
- If you use old domain that much, can you redesign it + move content from new one and eliminate that redirect?
- can you replicate flash app with non-flash app (js, mysql or whatever)?
- can you redo flash app with new one, which will be integrated with new website?
I understand all my suggestions would require financial investment, but I say it will be worth it.
-
RE: Outreach with your own name
Yes, it does. Why is it bad? I assume that for your own outreach you are "outreaching" about seo stuff.
As for non-seo related companies - I usually use our clients info@ email or marketing@ email.
That way it's not related to me, but the company. If you do want to use your own name, then I don't think there is a way to go around your problem.
As for this: "people directly doubt my sincerity or they want to sell me a paid placement" - it's always going to be present and I don't think there is a way to get rid of it, unless your clients' companies become very authoritative in their fields.
-
RE: Outreach with your own name
can you explain what you mean here:
I did get 6 replays which 4 of them started about my SEO background . The response rate was great, but my SEO background isn’t in this case.

RE: What's the best way to track broad search terms?
I believe if you just set it up, it will run report next day (or in two days), but then it's gonna be weekly. I don't think there is a way to force to update reports.
-
RE: What's the best way to track broad search terms?
Alright, i think i found your problem.
Do you have lashgroup campaign set up for http://lashgroup.com?
instead of http://www.lashgroup.com? Do you have proper redirects from non-www to www version (or vice versa)?
Check screenshots.
P.S. As far as i understand, moz is looking for exact match of domain when retrieving rankings for your reports. so, www and non-www make a lot of difference.
-
RE: What's the best way to track broad search terms?
Are you checking moz's rank tracker or ranking report in campaign?
If it's in campaign, then it might be due to weekly updates - rankings are not updated every day, so 51+ rank might be from previous week (or even month if you're looking at monthly report).
-
RE: What's the best way to track broad search terms?
Hmm..
I tried to recreate the results you're talking about and here is what i get:
chrome - ranks #1
moz - ranks #1

RE: SEO benefits of terms used in Alt-tag, image name, page title
Hi there.
You sure can add whatever you want. The question is about if it's going to help your SEO. If you going to have "buy online in australia" in title, meta, content, alt-tags then it is going to be overstuffing.
What you should be doing is "theme-ing" pages. Each page should target 1-2 related keywords with supportive content for those keywords (lets say pictures with related names, titles, alt-tags etc).
ALWAYS think of user experience. As I mentioned before - alt-tags are for when img does load or for visually impaired. So, if i get "best wedding dress store" instead of image of a dress - that's not cool. However, it would be ok to have something like "designer wedding dress - online store in sydney". Basically, you can incorporate descriptive, promotional and seo words together.
Hope this helps.

RE: What's the best way to track broad search terms?
Hello, my friend.
I think you are mistaken. Moz, indeed, tracks rankings for broad match. And it makes sense, since users usually google without putting any google search operators (like double quotes).
And here is the proof: I have two searches for how car fast - broad and exact. I used nonsense phrase on purpose. Then i went to moz rank tracker and did the same search. The results show that MOZ does indeed broad search.
See screenshots attached.

RE: Changing Targeted Keywords on Landing Page
We do it all the time (and it's i'd say recommended way to do it). If we have a page which has two keywords, but it's really targeting keyword A and we dont have another page for keyword B, and we want keyword B to rank good, we just create page for keyword B.
It's just about assessment of how much benefit you'd get out of creating new page.
-
RE: Changing Targeted Keywords on Landing Page
Hi there.
I would recommend doing this: are keywords A and B related? do they support each other (eg.: seo + internet marketing).
so, since you have "page at the moment has allot of content for keyword A and a little bit for keyword B", leave it as it is and create second page which has a lot of content for keyword B and a little bit for keyword A.
If keywords A and B are not related, then just split it up into pages straight forward.
Hope this helps.

RE: SEO benefits of terms used in Alt-tag, image name, page title
Hi there.
The purpose of alt tag is to describe the image if doesn't load and for visually impaired users, who use screen reader programs. So, i would go with more descriptive "black dress" than not-telling-me-anything "jadore 1234".
Also alt tag is used a lot in image search, so, if your business can benefit from image search, then it would make sense to include a little more details in alt tag than "black dress". Maybe something like "affordable jadore flared black dress - 'company name'".
Hope this helps.

RE: Using same business number on different websites
I assume that doesn't matter, otherwise the question asked wouldn't make sense.
But good point! I'd like to know the answer as well
-
RE: Using same business number on different websites
Hi there.
It surely would look strange and maybe even suspicious in eyes of google. What about simple call forwarding? Just forward all calls from all of those numbers to your main one. Win-win situation.

RE: Product Schema & Google Guidelines
Hi there.
Schema is pain in terms of showing up. You can have it all right and wait for a year and still not seeing rich snippets.
There was quite similar discussion here: https://moz.com/community/q/reviews-not-appearing-in-serps-even-with-schema-markup
Hope this helps

RE: Oct 14 2015 MOZScape update: none of DA are changed?
So, the numbers displayed on all graphs, metrics etc in "links" section in campaign analytics are not correct? Then why are they even displayed?
Also, I checked OSE - the same story. All DA scores are the same from last index for all websites I've checked.

Oct 14 2015 MOZScape update: none of DA are changed?
Hello, everybody.
Today I noticed that finally the latest release of mozscape update has been posted.
Now, I noticed that NONE of 25 campaigns websites NOR any of their competitors DA has changed. I do understand that DA can stay the same, but 25+25*3=100 websites domain authorities hasn't changed at all since August 4th (the date of previous mozscape release)?
Or is this happening only to me?
Please advise.

RE: Thin Content, Ecommerce & Reviews
Hi there.
Here is a video from Matt Cutts. I know it's old, but I think it does summarize what you should do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI_NmnXn5A4
Basically, as always, it's all about user experience. I think that your idea about reviews on page is quite good. Also consider creating (besides good descriptions) supportive materials like posts about those products, reviews, video reviews, other related articles etc. and then link to those articles from descriptions or specific parts of product pages.
Hope this makes sense.
-
RE: Is there a Bug or other problem with Facebook Page 'invite friends' feature ?
I reeeeeally doubt that.

RE: Moz Rank /Moz Trust Tips and Tricks
Hi there.
Oh, I know how you feel. I myself sometimes feel that all work I do is going towards nothing. Eg.: we are simply smashing all our competitors if I look at MOZ metrics, but we weren't be able to rank for certain phrases at all. No matter how much technical work I've done. But then we decided to look from another angle and assess how the pages are in terms of UX, UI, the link profile, five second rule etc etc. And probably about a week ago we started seeing rankings crawl up.
So, it's all about time and quality. What I would recommend is to assess the quality of content, quality of links, "themeing" of pages, informational architecture. Also producing related good content and building the audience also helps a lot.
Hope this helps.
-
RE: Is there a Bug or other problem with Facebook Page 'invite friends' feature ?
Oh, that's when you click on that three dots icon, it's right below "invite friends".
-
RE: Is there a Bug or other problem with Facebook Page 'invite friends' feature ?
Ok, I figured it out.
There is a misleading and not full info on the article you linked to.
So, to make it work you gotta:
- log out, log in as yourself;
- on LEFT side column find the business page
- then on cover photo, by "message" click three dots icon
- click "invite friends" if you want to invite friends
- click "suggest page", if you want to use email uploads
Works like a charm

RE: Redirect if old browser or OS to other domain?
Hi.
Wow! Never heard of such problem ever before. I'm not even sure how that's possible. Are you sure that it's OS, not certain machine/virus etc? Also is it happening in every browser?
As for redirect, as far as I know, there is no way to intercept OS versions. Even if there is, it would be extremely weird and not making sense. I'd look into other SSLs which are "normal".
-
RE: Is there a Bug or other problem with Facebook Page 'invite friends' feature ?
Hi.
Have you tried in different browsers? do you have pop-ups enabled?
