RE: Site traffic vs other sites

RE: What am i missing?
Google, Yahoo, Moz, and a bunch of other sites all have much higher stats than my site. Yet none of them are optimized for or care about scale model battleships, so my little site can outrank them. You do need to look at what is on your site too.

RE: Do it for me
My thinking was if you read the Beginner's Guide, then you can be able to better tell if an "expert" is truly an expert, or trying to feed you a line and take your money.

RE: Do it for me
Have you checked out our Beginner's Guide to SEO to get familiar with some of the basics on your own? http://moz.com/learn/seo

RE: I need an SEO Specialist to take a look at a few things for me
Hello Salman,
Moz staff does not step in to delete questions unless there has been obvious spam or someone's privacy has been violated. Deleting a question is unfair to everyone who volunteered their time to write an answer, only to have their work (and moz points) removed.
It's best to be cautious and only say as much as you are comfortable with saying in the first place.

RE: Why did I fall off the SERP for my url query? Im i being penalized?
Have you made any changes to your site recently that might have affected this? Perhaps put a robots.txt file or robots meta tag in that blocked the page that was ranking for this term? Have you seen traffic for this term drop in Bing and Yahoo at all? Do you have any messages at all in GWT?
Do you have both www and non-www verified in GWT? Maybe the non-www is ranking for this term, and you've only verified the www, which isn't ranking?

RE: Strange client request
If it worked, we'd all see text with lots of odd quotes and parenthesis, correct?
-
RE: Banned from Google
A few more questions.
-
Are you aware this forum is indexed? If your client searches, they may be able to find this question. Perfectly fine for some clients, not for some others.
-
Have you checked in Google Webmaster Tools for any messages?
-
Have there been changes in the other search engines in rankings?
-
Are you checking with a browser in incognitio mode, so that you're logged out and getting results that are as depersonalized as possible?
-
Has there been any change in traffic or sales? Anything else in Google Analytics of interest?

RE: Authorship image
Google did just make some changes in authorship, and is not showing it for as many sites. http://searchengineland.com/confirmed-google-reduces-authorship-rich-snippets-in-search-results-180313

RE: Banned from Google
Is the customer not appearing at all in Google, or just not appearing in the first position? Are there any notifications in Google Webmaster Tools? Are things OK in the other search engines?

RE: Why isn't me SellingRestaurants campaign operating???
Hi Milford,
Could you please send that information in an email to help@moz.com so we can work with you via our help desk?
Thanks!

RE: Why isn't me SellingRestaurants campaign operating???
This question is best asked via our help desk, with an email to help@moz.com. Let us know your Moz username and campaign info, and we'll get back to you. Thanks!

Mozbar and Firefox: Feedback please!
Hey MozBar fans, we're thinking of focusing more on Chrome and moving away from Firefox. Our reasons:
- Maintaining two platforms increases development cost.
- Each new Firefox version released takes up to a month to be approved by the Mozilla store.
- There is not as much design flexibility in Firefox.
But we would love your feedback before we make our final decision on this. Would you still use the MozBar as frequently if it was only available in Chrome? Thanks!

RE: Is it even possible to have a link building strategy?
There's a link building section of the Moz Blog that will give you a lot of ideas, as well as our section on links in the Beginner's Guide to SEO at http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links.

RE: Increase Bulk Keyword Difficulty Checker
Right now the daily limit is 300 for all membership levels. That'd be a good feature request to put in at https://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-Moz-Feature-Requests however!

RE: Allow or Disallow First in Robots.txt
Just a quick note, this question is actually from spring of 2012.

RE: How to know exactly which page links to a 404 page on my website?
If you download the CSV, you'll get the referring URL in the spreadsheet.

RE: What are the best practices for optimizing a site for multiple locations?
Can you say what industry? Do the people meet with clients at a particular location?

RE: Moz Staff Should Consider it - important
I'll pass that suggestion along. Currently, there are other providers to help with this, such as copyscape.
-
RE: Is it true that google moved to ssl encrypted protocol and doesn't release keyword data anymore?
The vast majority of keyword data from Google is now "not provided". There is still some that gets through, though less with every month. Data you're seeing is from the keywords that still get through, plus the keywords from other search engines.
We are working on monthly reporting (and you can get some monthly reporting via custom reports), but it's not available in general just yet. It's a high-priority project, as we realize it is an important feature.

RE: Sudden and dramatic decrease in External Followed Links and Total External Links
Which tool are you using to measure backlinks? We did just have an update to Open Site Explorer, and it could be that there were links we crawled last time that we either didn't crawl this time or that weren't there this time.
-
RE: Moz Staff Should Consider it - important
We do check for duplication within your site. For duplication across sites, there are services like Copyscape out there that I've heard do a good job of it.
There's quite a bit of programing involved in having a machine judge the quality of content, and it's not quite the focus that we're going for at Moz right now. I am interested to hear what other solutions people have found for these questions, as you might find some additional resources with other responses.

RE: When do I change out my meta tags after a full website revamp?
I totally misread that one. Need to lobby for better coffee in the Moz offices!
-
RE: ECommerce .com or .co.uk
I'd opt for the single site, both of the duplicate content issues and for your sanity. You'll have one site to maintain instead of two, one site to build links to, only one entry instead of two if something changes for a card, one place to make price changes, etc.

RE: How to ignore spam links to page?
The disavow tool could be quite helpful in something like this. We've written a post about it earlier this year at http://moz.com/blog/google-disavow-tool, which can help provide some background information.
-
RE: When do I change out my meta tags after a full website revamp?
I'm not sure where you're seeing that the title tag and description should be exactly the same. They serve different purposes, and don't need to be the same. We have more information at http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development that can help you out.

RE: Has GA changed how it calculates bounce rate?
Glad it was figured out so quickly. You might want to put a note in Google Analytics about what happened, so six months down the line you'll know why the bounce rate was low and there were higher page views.
-
RE: Has GA changed how it calculates bounce rate?
I'd check in an incognito browser where you are not logged into Wordpress. If you're an admin, WP can be set to suppress the GA tracking so that you're not recording your own visits, and when you view the source you see just the one tracking code, and continue to pull your hair out (voice of experience here!).

RE: Why does it take so long to generate CSV reports from OSE?
Thank you for the feedback Tim. We have added a note to OSE when you run a report that exports are running behind, as well as to the recent CSV reports page. Hopefully this will help people in this situation in the next couple of days. This morning's internal status report showed that we are getting ahead on the reports and things are starting to move a little faster now.

RE: Would a free PDF download diminish SEO benefits of HTML content?
I'm going to close this discussion, and ask that it be carried on at the original post at http://moz.com/community/q/would-a-free-pdf-download-diminish-seo-benefits-of-html-content

RE: OSE Problems
They were ironed out for quite some time, and just yesterday we started having some problems with the CSV export. We're working on it right now, though it may be a few days to get all of the backlog caught up and things back up to speed. It is currently taking a couple of days for reports to generate right now. We're in the process of adding an alert to OSE to let people know about this.

RE: Why does it take so long to generate CSV reports from OSE?
We actually are running behind on exporting reports right now (I don't know the reason why right now, but there is a team working on that). It may take a few days to get everything caught up. They usually are much faster. We're in the middle of adding a message to OSE to let people know about the delay. I really do apologize for this, and realize it's a pain when something you rely on isn't working.

RE: Need onpage site audit and seo
Hi Nick,
This is a fairly broad request, and you're likely to get either a very wide range of answers, or nothing at all. Can you give an approximate size of your site (how many pages / ecommerce items), and a rough order of magnitude of budget? We do have a list of recommended service providers at http://moz.com/article/recommended, but they do tend to be on the more expensive side.
We have a couple of posts about site audits that can help you start looking at your own site, if you want to do a bit of DIY.
http://moz.com/blog/how-to-do-a-site-audit and http://moz.com/blog/how-to-perform-the-worlds-greatest-seo-audit.
Hope this helps get you started a little!

RE: Getting backlinks on a page using https
While it's nice to have the link counted by Moz, Google and Bing and the other search engines don't listen to us, so whether or not we see it won't affect your ranking. Go into Google and Bing Webmaster Tools and see if your link is listed there. And even if you don't see it there -- do a site: search in Google for that directory structure and search for your anchor text. If Google see that, you know they've at least indexed the page and are aware of it.

RE: Way has the number of pages crawled plummeted?
Rogerbot is the campaign crawler, and OSE has a different name. I know it can be a tad bit confusing at times.
-
RE: Way has the number of pages crawled plummeted?
Chris, what you're talking about is Open Site Explorer. I believe what Eyeglass Guy is talking about is the campaign crawl, which is an entirely separate crawl system.
-
RE: Way has the number of pages crawled plummeted?
How many pages does your site have? Did you possibly clear up a bunch of parameters and duplicate content, so the crawl is more accurate?
-
RE: Google is not respecting the meta title
Google has been rewriting page titles for years, even on sites like Apple.com. Sometimes it's to better match user intent with the search, and sometimes it's because they think your title tag is spammy. Barry at Search Engine Roundtable has several pieces on this.

RE: Why cant I open my Campaigns
Could you let us know what the error message is, or what you're seeing, or attach a screenshot? Thanks!
-
RE: Branded reports or no branded reports
Branded reports are available right now, and can be set up via campaign settings. Sorry for the confusion! We'll be updating the appropriate pages this week.
-
RE: How can I go back to moz pro?
We have not turned off access to Pro for legacy users. There is a banner that says you now have access to Moz Analytics, but it is still Pro, and the title tag also says PRO Home. If you're not seeing that, and you're using an account that was created before Moz Analytics, send us a note at help@moz.com.

RE: Full SERP Analysis Report Complete ?
Hi Adam,
This has gone to our help queue, which is running a couple of days behind at the moment. You should have an answer from our help team soon. Thanks for your patience, and I apologize for the delay.

RE: Is there a way MOZ can help me get HQ links?
With Moz, you're not going to be able to press a button and have us give you a list of 100 perfect sites where you can add your link. However, what we can offer you is education and tools to help you find places that are appropriate to contact for a potential link.
For education, we have the Beginner's Guide to SEO linkbuilding section at http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links.
Open Site Explorer is a great tool for finding the links your competitors may have, and for giving you metrics about the strength of those pages and of the domain. Fresh Web Explorer is a good way to find mentions of your brand or of your product, and then perhaps contact those people, thanking them for the mention, or asking them to link to you.

RE: Best to Spend Marketing Budget on High Quality Articles OR Link Building Services?
I don't have the best answer here for that, and look forward to others chiming in. I was just afraid you were going to spend money to have someone who didn't know your field write up content for you, and glad to hear that people involved in the industry are involved in the authorship.
-
RE: Best to Spend Marketing Budget on High Quality Articles OR Link Building Services?
A bit cynical here, but would a PR agency be able to create high-quality content that's relevant to your industry? Or would your time and money (for that type of content) be better spent having someone with knowledge of your industry (perhaps in your company) writing and paying for an editor to polish the content?
-
RE: Break in H1 tag - big, small or no problem?
It looks like rogerbot is getting a 406 Not Acceptable response when he tries to crawl the URL. At this point, there's not much we could do on our end, it's more a case of getting things fixed by your developer or hosting provider.
