The link wheel only refers to the linking patterns - it has nothing to do with the quality of the links or the quality of the content. If you used crappy content and you didn't link properly, it's no wonder you had ranking instability (although that's normal when it comes to web2.0 link wheels, especially the poorly built ones, as some web2.0 properties get deleted, you lose the link and you lose the rank as well). HQ link wheels, like the ones mentioned by the OP, will never get you in trouble - but you'll need more time / resources to build them or they will be more expensive if you want to purchase such a service

RE: Does link wheel still work ?
To answer your questions, YES, the link wheel still works, but only if you do it right, I mean, it all depends on the quality of your link wheels.
A properly built link wheel, will take more time (and/or money) to build but the results will be up there, you'll get increased keyword rankings and also indirect traffic from the link wheel sites, and contrary to popular belief, if you build it right, google will not be able to spot it and you'll be penalty free.
If you plan to build a link wheel, I would recommend you to read all the resources at linkwheel.pro before you start building one.

RE: Do Link wheel works?
As with any link building strategy / method, it all depends on the quality of your link wheels.
A poorly built link wheel will provide no noticeable results and in the worst case, you'll end up with a penalty.

RE: Its the 21st April, and my non responsive page is still ranking the same ?
Not all websites will be hit instantly, it's a rolling update which means it will be implemented over time and sites will be affected over time. So if your site is not mobile friendly and you still rank well today, it doesn't mean you got away with it.

RE: Best of the Web directory
To answer your question, YES, it has high trust and high authority so a link from that site would definitely help in terms of SEO.

RE: 2 Top level domains - not ranking?
Dirk, you might be right, but then again why have 3 identical sites? Even if the hreflang tags are properly set up, the whole content is duplicated - even the currency across all 3 sites. If you had different currencies on each (as described in the video) it would be something. But right now, all the content is identical (not almost identical but fully identical).
Don't get me wrong, this is not a problem about spamming, it's just that with 3 identical pages, google is going to rank the one that it first saw, the one it considers to be the original - or the one that has the best ranking signals (links and what not).
-
RE: 2 Top level domains - not ranking?
If you really have the same site on 3 top level domains, that's duplicate content and it's probably one of the reasons why the other 2 don't show up in the searches. All 3 sites are indexed, I have checked. If you wanna have 3 sites, you should definitely use different content on them, or you can just keep the 3 domains and redirect 2 of them to the most important one.
-
RE: Compare sites?
Even if your site outranks the other site in Moz, it doesn't mean anything. Moz is not Google, they have different ranking signals (have a second read at what Bob said) and the most important thing, Moz doesn't show all the links websites have, it shows only the links it found. This being the case, Google is probably aware of more links (hidden ones as well), so that's why your website is outranked.

RE: 2 Top level domains - not ranking?
What do you mean you're only found for the .co.nz site?
And one thing I don't understand, do you have 3 different sites or just 3 different domains (and 2 of them redirect to the other one)?

RE: I'm changing title tags and meta tags, url, will i loose my ranking?
It's exactly how Christina put it:
-
keyword in title (the more keywords in title the better)
-
title needs to make sense (as a sentence, not just as an enumeration of keywords)
-
keyword closer to the beginning of the title it's a common practice
-
keep it up to 70 characters long (google will truncate longer titles)
-
also use your brand / site name somewhere
The example Christina gave is great, but to include even more keywords (and if you company is a local one) I would do:
"Top Rated UK Web Design Company - DR Adept" - as this would include the keywords uk web design company, top rated web design company, etc (combinations of all the words in there, you get the drift) - it won't rank as well for all of them, but it will be there.

RE: Re-writing articles, how does this effect SEO?
Nothing to worry about there Justin, your article will always rank above the copied one.
-
RE: How did I get over 1000 backlinks in less then a month? help?
Check with ahrefs or majestic, check the links manually or using a tool like link detox and then you'll know what needs to be done.
-
RE: Is there any benefit in using a subdomain redirected to a single page?
There will be only a single benefit, which is tracking. Separate subdomains will allow you track visitors properly. No positive or negative result - unless links are involved.

RE: Traffic on my website hasn't gone up since
Did you change any of the title tags, content, is there any redirect in place, are the sitemaps there?

RE: Http to Https Backlink Value
The easiest way to do the https redirect correctly is to use htaccess

RE: Strategy for 301s/404s
You can redirect to the main category page or just create a custom 404 page (and even show related products on it if your CMS allows it).

RE: Good or Bad Backlinks
I haven't used monitorbacklinks but I have used cognitiveseo and I could say it's not very bad and not very good. If you can take a sample of 1000 links and then randomly check 10-20 of them manually, using your common sense, you'll see that CS is right about some and wrong about some.
For me, the only tool I can rely on is linkresearchtools (link detox) - which is right about links in about 80-90% of the cases. It's a bit expensive tho but I think they offer some sort of free trial.
-
RE: More pages is good for SEO? Is this true?
All in all, more pages would definitely increase your website's authority and provide strong signal about it's topic. So yea, it would better for seo, but only if those pages are valuable to the users - coz creating pages just for the sakes of it, would mean spamming.
-
RE: I'm changing title tags and meta tags, url, will i loose my ranking?
The only way to go is up, just make sure you keep your titles well optimized.
-
RE: Should I use a rel=canonical to the home page
-
if you have a link from the 2nd level page to your home page that would help the home page rank better
-
don't use rel=canonical (and +1 to what Patrick said, I agree with everything)
-
off page seo is needed to get your keywrd in the top 10 (directory listings, citations, social media and links of all types) + optimize your home page properly (and make sure it's not content thin, Google doesn't usually rank well thin content pages).

-
RE: How does Tripadviser ensure all their user reviews get crawled?
Domain authority is the key here, now only their links get crawled but they all get ranked, usually in the top 10.
-
RE: Good or Bad Backlinks
Do not rely only on tools, use your common sense as well. For example, moz's new spam rating - a blog comment link coming from a page with gibberish content, tons of ads and 2500 spammy unmoderated comments would seem like spam to me, but moz's spam rating is only 2.
By the way, which tools are you using?
-
RE: Best way to get a Linking Root Domains
Try ahrefs and majestic they have the most link data. Webmaster tools doesn't provide all your link data and it's the same with moz, they have a smaller database of links (but have more and better features than ahrefs and majestic).
-
RE: Error Meta Description
+1 to what Rene said, google is not forced to use your meta description (especially when the website is in a "complicated" niche).
-
RE: SEO Benefit to SSL Certificate
Just like everyone else here responded, ssl is no major ranking factor. Implemented ssl on 8 websites during the last 4-6 months and there was no change in ranking.

RE: Why would I suddenly start seeing a spike in hits from particular bots (specifically rogerbot, google, bing, and yahoo)?
Anything strange in your link profile or in your social media profile. Did the hits/bots come all at the same time or are spread evenly within 24 hrs?

RE: Difference between Searches and Impressions
I think it has something to do with keyword match types (it's the same thing as with google adwords) - http://advertise.bingads.microsoft.com/en-us/help-topic/how-to/50822/what-are-keyword-match-types-and-how-do-i-use-them

RE: How can I tell Google not to index a portion of a webpage?
Just as Chris Painter pointed out, you shouldn't worry too much about duplicate content if your site is legit (not an autoblog for example) and if you really want hide it from google, iframes are the way to go.

RE: How to appear on Google Maps
-
Full and correct NAP (Name, Address, Phone)
-
Local Citations with consistent NAP
-
Verified G+ Local Page - this needs to be properly set up
And your business appearing on the map is influence by the keyword competition and your competitors as well (how many reviews they have, how may relevant citations, etc).

RE: Finding blog ideas and syndication
I've done some marketing for the a few furniture sites (manufacturers and retailers) and the best kind of posts that work best (great engagement and lots of views) are lists like : 10 living room ideas, 15 kitchen designs for increased usability, 20 bedroom office designs for small spaces, etc. You don't need a lot of text for this, just images (which you can use with attribution rights). Check houzz.com for more details.

RE: Still Keyword Stuffing? With NO tekst?
I totally agree with you, you do need unique content to rank and Martine's page (coz this discussion took off a bit) had a lot, a lot of unique content. So that's why i was considering that having keywords appearing a 15+ times on her page would not do any harm. Keyword stuffing can affect your rankings, of course, but only if you have thin content and/or if you do it to influence rankings (as an example, a client of mine had his titles on all pages like this: RV Insurance | Buy Rv Insurance | Best Rv Insurance | Rv Insurance Online | Rv Insurance Quotes - and the last paragraph on each page was 3-4 lines of RV Insurance related keyword spam - and guess what, there was no penalty and the site still ranks well for it's keywords).

RE: Still Keyword Stuffing? With NO tekst?
The thing about density is that it's calculated based on the entire document/page and not just one phrase. And yes you're right, nothing in your sentences is out of context, but it is still keyword stuffing because the density is way out of proportion (but hey, Matt Cutts said there's no right or wrong density, so...)
And yea, it might be keyword stuffing, but you don't see ecommerce shops get penalized because of it, so i guess it's nothing wrong with it.
-
RE: Still Keyword Stuffing? With NO tekst?
Most of these resources are from 2010-2011, a lot has changed since then.
But even then , MC said that there's no right or wrong density, the only thing that matters is if your "keywords are present in your copy in a natural way". So if they keywords are present in an un-natural way, that would be keyword spamming.
Now let's take a look at an ecommerce shop, where you have the categories on a side menu and they all contain the keywords in them. Is that natural or un-natural?
-
RE: Still Keyword Stuffing? With NO tekst?
Jonathan, i don't have source where you can read this, i'm talking from experience and using my common sense:
-
in order to be stuffing it must be out of context - if you have a list of categories or related products that contain the keyword, that's not out of context, it's natural.
-
also, the same keyword must be repeated over and over, in a compact form, just like in the google example "We sell custom cigar humidors. Our custom cigar humidors are handmade. If you’re thinking of buying a custom cigar humidor, please contact our custom cigar humidor specialists at custom.cigar.humidors@example.com." - this might be the case of some ecommerce and affiliate sites that have thing content, but when most of your occurrence are not coming from the main content (but are coming from the related content, menus, even html), that's not keyword stuffing.
About the keyword density, i have 3 examples, which in terms of density are exactly the same:
-
1000 words of content and the keyword appears 20 times per throughout the content
-
1000 words of content and keywords appear 20 times in the first 50 words on the page (density is still the same).
-
1000 words of content and the keywords appear 10 times in the title and 10 times in the last 30 words (and just for the sake of it, the main content of the article has nothing do with the keywords).
Keyword density is exactly the same for all, but one of them is not keyword stuffing. If it was keyword stuffing in all of the above examples, you wouldn't see ranking any big retailer in the top 10.
So the key to understanding keyword stuffing is if the keywords appear natural, in context, or not. And natural for a blog / content website may be different from natural for an online shop, considering they have a different structure and purpose by default.

RE: Still Keyword Stuffing? With NO tekst?
For a regular page (article / deep content) that's true, i agree with that. But for an ecommerce store selling products, things are different. Main content here is thinner extra content predominates : categories that may contain the keyword, related products that may contain the keyword, reviews / ratings that may contain the keyword. If you look at any amazon product page for example, you'll see that it's keyword stuffed according to moz (15 or more keyword instances). But there's nothing wrong with that, amazon still ranks high.
In my opinion, ever since co-occurrence and co-citation came out, keyword density (and keyword stuffing) are no longer that important.

RE: What can you do about negative SEO?
If your site has enough authority and trust (site age is also a factor here), those 3k links won't hurt a bit, no matter how many links you have. I have done experiments and a domain with 50DA/50PA and less than 100 links did not move at all after getting hit with 250k spammy links (from spammy websites - using a spammy link profile). In fact the site increased in the serps for a few keywords after about 1 month and stayed there (currently in the top 3). We did the same experiment on a high DA domain with only 8 links - nothing bad happened, rankings increased in 2-3 months.
Just think about it this way, if negative seo would be that easy to pull off, all the shady Kumars out there would start doing this. Fortunately, it's not about the links, their number or quality. Unfortunately, neg seo exists and google can't do much about it (but average Kumars don't have access to neg seo that truly works).
So if you didn't see any drop in rankings, or message in GWT saying that you have a partial penalty, there's nothing to worry about.

RE: Http to https question (SSL)
It's a bit overkill, but if you want to get rid of something, you can get rid of wp engine. I have a lot of websites running on cheap $5 hosts + cloudflare and once everything is cached, they are blazing fast.
Regarding the rankings, as Cyrus said, depending on the niche you'll see fluctuations, i have a website where i see movement in the serps every day or every other day.
Website looks nice, clean and professional.

RE: Possible to Change Domain Name without Negative Rankings
Do a full 301 redirect and don't worry so much about DA/PA - they are not google metrics and the numbers themselves don't influence google rankings. But just as Monica said, you will see a drop in rankings but they should be back up in 2 weeks or so.
-
RE: How can I maximize my On Page for these two common usages
Easiest thing to do is replace every instance of "1886 ten dollar bill" with "1886 ten dollar ($10) bill" - it contains all variations you need to rank for. Let me know if that helped.
-
RE: Still Keyword Stuffing? With NO tekst?
Martine, nothing to worry if you have the same keywords 18 times on a page, that's not keyword stuffing. If you had it 18 times in the title only, that would be a problem. Just think about it on a regular page about sex dolls, the word "sex doll" will appear 3-10 times in the content. It would also appear in the menu, breadcrumbs, categories, product variations, titles, etc. So 18 times on the whole page is not a problem.
-
RE: Will linking to very similar (or duplicate content) hurt SEO
This could get you in trouble, even if the articles are not identical, but fairly identical. It's like those crappy spun articles people were (or still are) using for building contextual links. Most of the won't get indexed and if you have too many of them. The main problem is if those similar articles are also posted on your website. If yes, it could hurt you, if not, there's no risk but just as max pointed out, the backlinks will have no value.
-
RE: Trailing Slashes and SEO
You don't have to worry about a thing, Google is smarter than you think - a trailing slash more or less won't affect your SEO in any way.
-
RE: Site hacked, but can't find the code

RE: Web Page Dropped Out of Google?
You just need to wait a bit (24-48 hrs), if you didn't do anything to that page, chances are it's gonna be back in the top 10.
-
RE: Why is our pagerank is still only 3/10?
The pagerank won't update. What you have now is what you'll have (probably forever). Good thing is that pagerank doesn't count. Your low DA/PA is due to the few links or low quality links you may have. If you want to increase it, you'll need more links (from high PA pages of course).
-
RE: Possible problem with new site (GWT no queries/very low index vs. submitted)
Just like you said: add https version (with and without www) to gwt, change the wp main url, use the ssl redirect plugin or manage the redirect via htaccess and finally wait a few days to see the changes.
