RE: Ok to internally link to pages with NOINDEX?
Agree with Alan to have a no index, follow tag on pages that you need to no index from the Google Index!
-
RE: Why do YOU blog? What's the point!?
I started blogging as a guest blogger as I don’t feel the need of my own blog but then people want me to have a place where they can read my stuff!
I believe Blogging have the following benefits (based on my experience)
- You can get the change to set yourself as an authority within your particular niche.
- You get a chance to build and engage a community around your blog that like your work and share their views on your posts (ideas).
- You can convert a good amount of your fans to convert in to your customers by encouraging and satisfying them enough through your blog pieces.
- Technically, you can target long tail keywords through your blog and make them rank well in Google.
- Relationship Building is one of the key things you get through blogging that later help you getting links, endorsements and much more!
-
RE: One post on a keyword updated frequently vs. multiple posts
I believe the first idea that was about creating a guide and update it from time to time is a better ideas as this will help you get more and more links over the period of time and people will always find it relevant so they will stick to it!
2nd Question:
There is no harm in having a 1 page website if it is about a guide but then do not expect it to rank for multiple different keywords and if you want that then you ideally should use blog for that!
Hope this helps!

RE: On Page Reports for Long-Tail Keywords?
Highly agree!
Golden Words!
...Ultimately, SEO is not about following a strict set of guidelines--it's about having a well-founded knowledge level and then leveraging that knowledge in unique ways in order to gain an advantage over your competitors....

RE: Need help on SEO for my site. Can't figure out what is wrong.
I would call it a great startup... simply fascinate me!
Ok, I checked your link profile and it seems clean, websites SEO areas are not weaker... just a suggestion if there is a possibility try to shorten your URLs as it will gonna hurt you in the longer run!
Problem: I didn’t really figure out the exact problem but I am sure that there is no penalty case or something.... I believe you should continue to do what you are doing and after some crawls it is going to be back on 3 to 4th pages from several different key phrases.
-
RE: See Different Landing page for my main keyword in google search result
Common case! In my personal experience there is no need of changing or removing pages from the sub domain!
Remember Google is picking up your review page because Google is finding it more relevant but what if the most relevant page according to Google link to another page that you want to rank?
I think you should link from your review page to the home page plus get some more good links that should target your home page and wait for the next crawl!
Probably this issue will be resolved!
-
RE: Organic Google Sitelinks - can I edit?
Awesome! I believe it will change once Google will re-crawl your website!
-
RE: Organic Google Sitelinks - can I edit?
Usually when Google didn't find any description available on the page it usually grab it from 3rd part sources that may includes Open Directory Project or any other place where your website listing is present.
Now when you have added the Meta description it should change it once Google will re crawl the site.
hope this helps!
-
RE: Should We Index These Category Pages?
yeah! optimize the pages in such a way that it kill the duplicate content issue and then let those pages indexed in Google!
-
RE: Should We Index These Category Pages?
I believe you should properly work on optimizing your category pages and make them follow to search engines.... the reason why you should do this is because optimizing will help you stay away from duplicate content and once search engine will find it relevant against user query... it will automatically going to rank and bring your targeted traffic.
-
RE: Organic Google Sitelinks - can I edit?
If I correctly understand your question...
Legal action for Meta Description... simply didn’t make any sense to me!
I mean if the Meta Description is not available within the content or elsewhere on the site then its Google who is grabbing the Meta Description from some 3rd party source which might or might not in your control.
But in all there is no point of legal action against this because this is not the result of something you have done or in your control.
I think you should talk to your client and explain them how Google is getting the Meta Description!

RE: On-Page Grader: F, Backlink still work?
I will again recommend not to use exact match anchor text but try multiple anchor texts around your targeted keyword plus i would highly recommend using the idea of co-occurrence
-
RE: Off Page SEO Topic
I believe in order to find the keywords provide you traffic can be found through following ways!
- Follow the trend
This means follow giant blogs on email, experts on twitter and track all of them to see what topics are trendy and then write on the same!
- Google Keyword Tool
Grab the list of keywords that you think are good... put them in the Google keyword tool to see what contains the considerable search volume and then plan your writing!
There can be other ways as well but I believe these are the quick and the easiest one!
-
RE: On-Page Grader: F, Backlink still work?
I think i got your question... this is for some reason you cannot add your targeted key phrase within your content so when grabbing links you are planning to get exact match anchor text and you want to know if this still works!
If this is the question then I guess it’s not really a problem that you are not adding keywords within the content but when grabbing links make it natural instead of adding exact match anchor text... try to get some links with anchor texts that are not exact but move around the same!
How this helps!
-
RE: My homepage is ranking great but my blog posts have dissappeared
Checked in your link profile and it seems fine to me! The arrangement of anchor text on links is natural and links are coming from almost all natural ways... didn’t really found any obvious paid or any other low quality tactics to grab links!
There is no roobts.txt file available try to add that plus check what SEO plugin are you using... low quality plug-ins can also cause this problem! I would recommend you to please update your SEO Plugin to Yoast!
Also I have searched few more keywords for different posts and they seems to rank on the first page below the fold so i think you should also focuses on some quality link building in order to get bran first page rankings above the fold.

RE: Entire site code copied - potential SEO issues?
I personally don’t think there is such penalty on duplicate code as it is available on duplicate content...this is mainly because there are billions of people using Wordpress and as it is a CMS so the basic code will be same only JS and CSS is changed from website to website...
Infect, I have seen many people using the same JS and CSS on more than two websites just by changing the design of the website....I personally believe there is no problem from the SEO stand point.. But obviously ethically copying the code of the website is not good!
-
RE: What count as irrelevant links?
This is not really irrelevant... I mean I have a website that dedicated offer SEO service, and I have few links coming from good web design websites and this is not irrelevant because somehow there is a connection!
Similarly, here the links that are pointing to the website have some connection... I mean if the websites that are link back to your website have a bad health, then you must stay away from their links but saying that the links are simply irrelevant is not true!

RE: Navigation for Users vs Spiders
Here is the Google’s guidelines for developers that how they can make their AJAX code crawlable.... https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/174992?hl=en
I guess you should pretty much focus on your user’s experience and I believe Google crawlers can easy crawls your AJAX and JS codes...
Hope this helps!

RE: I have double-checked the rel canonical is properly employed on our page but the On Page Grader says it's not working?
Ok, you are kind of misleading Google by this... canonical tag tells Google that where the original content is located. According to your signal it is location on your https version which is redirected back to http so in other words your original content is located to a destination which is relocated to some other URL....
All you have to do is to remove just an s from the canonical version and all will be fine!
-
RE: Need help with huge spike in duplicate content and page title errors.
Ok, the titles you are using on different pages are technically scary and almost identical... Google wants the titles to be more unique on different pages.... these titles are coming probably because its hard coded and added after the content.
My advice would be to contact your webmaster and ask them to remove the hard coded title and the issue of duplicate title will automatically be resolved...
Try to limit your title within 65 t o59 characters.
If you are experiencing a duplicate content issue this must be because most of your part of the page is empty and identical to others...
For example: http://www.newmanshs.wa.edu.au/articles/events/mining-alliance-program-map-pit-to-port-excursion and http://www.newmanshs.wa.edu.au/articles/events/country-week
Have almost 2 to 4 lines of content and rest of the page is similar to each other.... I would advise you to add more content in it so that it becomes more unique!

RE: Best ranking Magento sites?
Can't really say how it is performing in terms of rankings in search engine but if you asking for a Magento sites that are properly optimized for SEO then this is one of the perfect examples https://www.brewshop.co.nz/
hope this helps!

RE: Still worth it to get listed on "resources" pages
I agree with Chris on this! You should get links from resources pages but good link profile comes from the diversification of links so if the links are only coming from 1 kind of link building tactic thin might hurt you in the future... I believe, with this you should use 404 link building, infographics, guest blogging, links within the content, manual outreaching and more...In order to have an organic and diversified link profile that ideally search engines are looking for!
-
RE: Does using role="heading" instead of H1 in HTML code affects SEO?
No harm in using role=”heading” instead of H1 but as far as Chris is saying about adding keywords in heading tag will negatively affect your SEO... I didn’t experience this myself but obviously you cannot simply ignore the SEL research!
-
RE: Backlinks to URLs with Language Parameters (for Chinese version of website) and SEO?
Never worked for Chinese version but as far as search engine Google is concern it will count these two URLs as separate URLs.
I mean URL: example.com/Australia and example.com/Australia?al=zh will be considered as different URLs and if the content is available in different languages then there will no duplicate content issue and link juice for both pages will be separate.
Hope this helps!
-
RE: PPC landing page cannibalizing the Organic page's juice?
I believe no index is a good option and in my practices I haven’t seen the quality score changes due to no-indexing of the page.
I would highly recommend not changing the title tag to add something irrelevant as title tag have a direct impact on quality score!
This answers all your questions... please let me know if you need more help regarding this!
-
RE: Robot.txt and Sitemap
I use xml-sitemaps.com for sitemap generation as its simple and easy to use!
If you are adding sitemap link in your robots.txt file its fine but not adding is not really a big problem!
-
RE: Which holds more weight..Citations or Social?
When the target is ranking and the option is between social and citation... I would always choose citation as this might not directly help you with conversions but obviously van help you grow your local rankings for multiple key phrases.
If the primary need is conversion then I would say use powerful and effective social strategy as this will convert visitors in to leads!
-
RE: Rankings fluctuating by around 10 pages between night and day
Mark continuously from the last 7 days is odd but fluctuation is kind of normal to many people who keep a close on rankings for certain key phrases...
I believe you should check your rankings using this URL (replace KEYWORD with your keyword) https://www.google.com/search?q=KEYWORD&gl=us&pws=0 and see if you experience the same... usually ranking tools track location based results and there is a huge possibility that there is no such thing like this in the general US results!

RE: 301'ing away from an exact match domain.
Re-branding is great and 301ing from existing domain to the new one is also a good idea for this but always remember whenever you do a 301 from one domain to another domain there is always a small loss of link juice which might cause a fluctuation for few or many of your ranking position in Google.
In my opinion the idea is not bad but tries to plan a strategy that aloe you to gain some quick and high quality link in that case so that it can minimize the ranking loss due to 301redirection.
**do not go for subdomain
**As far as not using a keyword in the new domain..I would always recommend you to do some competitor analysis for this and do not remove the keyword from the domain if most of the competitors are sung it as I still have an observation that Google give less (but still a value) to domain that contain keyword in it!
Hope this helps!
-
RE: Exact match domain ranking comparison.
Google is giving less and less value to domains that contain exact match anchor text but if all other ranking signals are constant (as you said) I believe Google will give the value to domains that contain exact match anchor text with standard extensions!
I believe the ranking order will be something like this!
- Sho.es
The reason why .es domains are ranking below the other two is because .es is the ccTLD of Spain whereas .com is a general extension.
Hope this helps!
Note: Google is not as simple as we think so this is just an assumption as per the best of my knowledge but we can be totally wrong about how Google think about this scenario!
-
RE: On page SEO Strategy / What pages to use?
More relevant copy? What I said is add more content on the service pages which simply means that current content on the page is too short to convert! Try to add more engaging and encouraging content for the targeted audience to convert.
If there is a possibility of reducing the total number f images per page... then go ahead and do that but there is no hard and fast rule for it! But more importantly add image alt names so that images can be indexed and ranked by Google engine accordingly!
Addition of keywords on the website copy is fine but adding too many times can hurt your SEO and also known as over optimization.
I believe for businesses like this quick leads form usually work... you can give it a try to see if lead ratio gets improved!
Yes, I am advising you to start a blog... social media is one thing but blog actually helps you get rankings for long tail key phrases and at the same time engaging and educational content on the blog will help targeted audience to convert.
hope this helps!

RE: HELP - Should I Disavow SEO, Site Analysis, and Website Worth Links?
If you think that your rankings and traffic goes down due to these links, I would highly advice you to outreach them manually first and try to remove the links (as many as possible) and then move towards disavowing a link!
-
RE: I allow authority sites to republish my blog articles, which then outrank me
Allowing them to republish your content is fine! If you see Moz’s blogs gets republished on several different sites... and same is the case with Mashable!
I believe what you really should do is to request them to use cross domain canonical and this will be a clear hint to Google that which is the original version of content and Google will rank the original version instead of the duplication one!
Hope this helps!
-
RE: On page SEO Strategy / What pages to use?
Ok, in my previous experience for many websites under different niches, pages that does not contain commercial content tend to contain more links then service pages and for some obvious reasons you can get most results on the home page.
I believe at the end of the day you need this website to produce leads no matter if home page ranked or inner pages (correct me if I am wrong!)
To start I would say your current strategy of creating separate page is fine but here are the following things that I see missing on your website.
- More content should be needed on the targeted pages
- Images should be light and properly optimized
- Be careful about over optimization
- Leads form is missing on the targeted service pages
- Non-Commercial pages do not exist... I believe having a blog is necessary for grabbing quality links as well as converting potential clients!
Hope this helps!
-
RE: Highly competitive keywords ranking
Guest posting is not the only option... infect guest blogging for link only is a bad idea... I would advise you to focus on broken link building, ego baits and infographics as by this you can get quick and better results in less time!
-
RE: Internal and external links showing in Webmaster Tools but not in MOZ
I will agree with Fede, the problem with OSE is it only crawls the portion of the website so if your links are not appearing in OSE they probably will (with the time). There is no harm in trusting the data from Google Webmaster Tool!
-
RE: Which page to rank for a Keyword? Home Page or Deep Page?
In my opinion what you should really consider is that what page (either home or internal page is working well for you in terms of conversions...
If home page is offering you more conversions then probably you should go for it! And direct your SEO strategy to get results from home page but if the inner page is offering your better conversions then you should prefer redirecting the angle of your SEO strategy towards inner pages...
I think there is no need to delete any internal page for this! But all you need to do is to build some great links so that your rankings can get stable positions against your key phrases.

RE: Looking to outsource monthly link building
I personally don’t think QnA section is for this purpose only... but in order to find a good partner that can make your job done... you should research within the community and find someone who can get your job done!
You can go through the link building blogs and see who is involved in sensible commenting or QnA... Top Users section might also help!
-
RE: SEO for 1,000,000 page site
Ok, your questions sounds like you want to verify if your strategy is right or not... In my personal opinion SEO strategy can be different from person to person because everyone can use different tactics to attain success and there is nothing wrong with this!
In my opinion, you are focusing too much on the quantity of content and missing the fact that how you are going to marketing each piece of content and grab real people’s eye on that! I think what you should really consider is to focus on marketing of your content and how exactly you are going to cater people to the website to read your content... No matter how quality your articles are but if you are not going to market it, it will drown in the deep sea of content in the online world.
Try to limit the content that you are going to make live on your own blog and consider outreaching to other similar websites within your niche and write on their blog as a guest author (instead of article submissions).
You should also exactly define your off-page strategy about how exactly you are going to get links on each article that you are going to make live... from links i mean quality links... dot run for blog comments, forums and directory shits...
As the business goal was not define so it was difficult to come up with a solid answer but i hope that this information worked out for you!

RE: Tracking URLS and Redirects
I don’t think this seems to be an option but what you can do is to design a good looking 404 page and then if the page does not exist redirect them to 404 pages! This way you don’t have to set redirect 1 by 1...
-
RE: Can anyone recommend a great programming company?
I don’t think coming up with a company name will be great but why not check Google places and yelp for a local company within your area.. and read the reviews to have an idea of their work and customer service...
-
RE: 301, 302, 404 or 410
The best idea is to 301 to removed product’s category page or a custom page that explains why the page does not exist anymore what are the ideal paces on the website to go and find similar products....
-
RE: Used a free WP theme and now Webmaster Tools has shown hundreds of broken links
Ok, so you are saying your webmaster tool says tons of 404 errors and your Moz account says multiple duplicate titles....
404s: This will not be easy but you can fix it...all you have to do is to identify all the 404 pages and then the pages that are most relevant to them... use the redirect plug-in and redirect all the 404 pages to most relevant 200 (active pages) pages available on the website.
Duplicate titles: For Duplicate Titles all you have to do is to identify all the duplicates and feature update with unique titles accordingly!
Note: Usually using a Free WP theme is a shitty idea as they are not SEO friendly and contains tons of development faults!
Hop this helps!

RE: My site build in HTML has been badly hit this recent update and I have been toying on the idea of changing it to Wordpress
It will not be wise to come up with a suggestion without looking deeply in to your website. There is a strong possibility that penalty hit your website because of your link profile and not your link structure...
Please drop your URL and if the problem is in your link profile then all you have to do is to find out the bad links and kill them accordingly! As a result you will see your rankings will started to come again with the time... if the problem is on the content on usability site then we probably need to look in to changing the content and site structure of the website.
At the moment all suggestions are quite blur.. I would appreciate if you drop your URL in order to get some solid information regarding your website.
-
RE: New Website Look/Structure - Should I Redirect or Update Pages w/ Quality Inbound Links
301 the old pages to the new pages that are most relevant to the pages so that user experience should not get hurt!
**If links are spammy then try not to redirect (at least without disavowing bad quality links)
-
RE: Press Releases
Pretty much agree with Chris’s answer on this one!
Press Releases still works but I believe with the period of time the SEO value of Press Release will go down so it is a good idea to use it naturally but do not specifically add it in your SEO strategy for link grabbing.
If you have any news that you really want people to know, there is no problem in going with PRs (if using links try sing naked links or brand name as an anchor text) but do not use it just because you need a link with your desired anchor text on it!
-
RE: How to Choose the Best Keywords for a Website
Pretty much agree with Chris as you cannot anything with location and the area they choose. I believe when local people search for more clients they usually have to use inbound marketing channels like hosting an event, t-shirts, community and more...
I believe you should try to invest some budge on PPC to get an idea of how much leads they should expect each month and to increase the number of leads probably inbound marketing methods can be a great idea!
-
RE: Failed microsites that negatively affect main site: should I just redirect them all?
Now when you say failed micro sites, does that means failed in terms of content or converting users in to customers or failed because they have spammy links on their profile and because they get a hit from panda or penguin?
If they get a hit from panda or penguin then it is the worst idea to redirect the micro site to main site as they will pass their link juices to the main site (which makes the situation go worst)!
In-case they are failed it terms of gaining SERP rankings and converting users in to customers in that case you can redirect it to main site...
If redirection is the only option you have then in that case try to clean their link profile by sending link removal emails and using a link disavow tool and then move towards redirection.
Hope this helps!
