Thank you for this information, Optimize. Not having a very technical background in this area, it seems quite confusing to try to implement this correctly.

RE: Duplicate Content for Spanish & English Product

Duplicate Content for Spanish & English Product
Hi There,
Our company provides training courses and I am looking to provide the Spanish version of a course that we already provide in English. As it is an e-commerce site, our landing page for the English version gives the full description of the course and all related details. Once the course is purchased, a flash based course launches within a player window and the student begins the course.
For the Spanish version of the course, my target customers are English speaking supervisors purchasing the course for their Spanish speaking workers. So the landing page will still be in English (just like the English version of the course) with the same basic description, with the only content differences on that page being the inclusion of the fact that this course is in Spanish and a few details around that.
The majority of the content on these two separate landing pages will be exactly the same, as the description for the overall course is the same, just that it's presented in a different language, so it needs to be 2 separate products.
My fear is that Google will read this as duplicate content and I will be penalized for it. Is this a possibility or will Google know why I set it up this way and not penalize me? If that is a possibility, how should I go about doing this correctly?
Thanks!

RE: Meta Keywords Dilution?
I am referring to the Meta keywords tag. Thank you.

Meta Keywords Dilution?
In general, does having a large number of meta keywords listed in a page's meta keywords line dilute effort?
On other words, should I focus on optimizing for 1 or 2 keywords per page to keep my efforts focused and increase the probability of ranking better for those 1 or 2.....or should I put down all the keywords I would "like" to rank for?
Thank You

How much Link Building?
I'm wondering how much additional directory links to a site, on a monthly basis, would be too much, and potentially seen as too manufactured in Google's eyes. I am referring specifically to good quality, or relevant, directory links, nothing very spammy. I know there is no specific number, just wondering what the consensus is.
Would a 10% monthly increase in linking root domains generally be considered too much? 5%?
Thanks for your input!

Keyword Strategy for an E-Commerce Site
I've seen this touched on in other posts but have read conflicting answers and am hoping to get some clarification. What should my keyword strategy be for an e-commerce site in an industry that has moderate to high competition for it's short-tail keyword phrases?
Should I try to optimize my homepage for the highly competitive, short-tail keywords, while going after the long-tail, and less competitive (but less traffic, too) on my product pages? What's a good rule of thumb as far as the number of keyword phrases to target per product?
Thank you

Blog Directories
Will links from blog directories to our subfolder-located blog within our website help the ranking of our overall site? In other words, will it just help the rankings of the main blog page (where the directory links are pointing to), or will it pass the link juice to the rest of the site?
Thanks!

RE: How can I verify who links to me?
Looking for a complete list. There has to be a way to see all links pointing to your site...

How can I verify who links to me?
I need to verify all the inbound links I have coming in to my site. I've tried using OSE but have been told it does not scrape many smaller sites so cannot be sure of it's accuracy (especially since when I ran it, it returned a small % of the link i know are out there).
Is there a way to do this in Analytics? Or another way?
Thanks

RE: How Does Link Juice Pass?
Thank you, Frank, this is a great help! When I typed in the www.mysite.com, it showed a 301 redirect. However when I type just mysite.com, I get the following: HTTP/1.0 200 OK =>
Does this mean there is no 301 set up for the mysite.com URL?

RE: How Does Link Juice Pass?
Thanks John, what I am wondering is if I need to specifically set up a 301 redirect separately, or would that automatically happen when redirecting one URL to another (https://mysite.com to http://mysite.com for example)?

How Does Link Juice Pass?
Say there is a link on an authoritative site to my site, and the link points to www.mysite.com. However, I have set all URL variations (https://mysite.com, www.mysite.com, mysite.com, etc.) to redirect to http://mysite.com automatically. Does the link juice from this authoritative site pass through the www.mysite.com URL to http://mysite.com automatically due to the automatic redirect?
I guess my question is does the link juice automatically pass on to the destination URL, even though it is not the original URL the authoritative site pointed to?

Best Blog Post Format for SEO?
Wondering what the best way is to display blog posts, and organize a blog in general, for maximum SEO benefit.
Displaying the entire blog post for the reader to scroll down right on the main page of the blog? With previous posts displayed farther down on the same page.
Displaying a snippet/paragraph of the post with a link to continue reading - this way each blog post has it's own dedicated page? And the main blog page can display more topics.
Any additional ideas or suggestions to think about would be great. Thank You!

SSL Necessary on Every Page?
Our ecommerce site is currently set up with an SSL on each page. My understanding is that these would need to be removed on the pages that I'd like a 301 redirect to be placed on. As of now, we have 302s due to the SSL.
Do I need an SSL on every page or just the checkout pages? Any real benefit to having the SSL on every page?

RE: How soon should links show up in OSE?
Thanks, Keri. Any idea how frequently Google will index new links? I see that linkscape was updated on the 25th and as of today I don't see the links being reflected in OSE. Is there a chance Google hasn't gotten to it yet?

How soon should links show up in OSE?
Just wondering, in general, how quickly newly placed inbound links should get indexed by Google, and show up in OSE?

Multiple same domain links on Open Site Explorer
In doing competitor link analysis on Open Site Explorer, I've noticed quite a few links coming from the same domain listed separately. This seems to be especially prevalent with Google directory listings. For example, I'll see a link to the site from google.hu/...., google.am/..., google.kz/..., etc. In some cases, it will be prefixed with an IP address, followed by the subfolder address. Correct me if I am wrong, but these seem to be all counting as separate root domains that are linking to the site. How is this done? Are directory submissions given to each country's google directory? Does an original DMoz listing get re-submitted to all of these? Just looking for some clarification on this and how it's accomplished. Thanks everyone!

RE: How often should I write a blog post?
Hi beeneeb, I will be using the blog to create credibility and draw in perspective customers on topics within my industry. It will be a blog within a website. Thanks for the answers everyone!

How often should I write a blog post?
I'm sure this has been asked before but I've searched for it in the Q&A Forum and couldn't find any relevant answer. I was thinking that a weekly post would suffice for my blog because the audience isn't one which would be checking frequently + there aren't very many new developments in the industry I'm in that would necessitate more than that.
However, I was told that if I can't blog consistently 2-3 times per week, I really shouldn't start a blog, as it would need that much posting. Thoughts on this?

RE: 302 (Temporary Redirect) & HTTPS - how to improve for SEO?
Thank You, Darryl. Do you know if it is required by some online merchants to have SSL on all pages of a site, or just credit card info pages? Or do they not require it at all?

302 (Temporary Redirect) & HTTPS - how to improve for SEO?
Hello,
I have a crawl diagnostic warning that says 302 (temporary Redirect). My site is set up with HTTPS - is that the main reason I am getting this warning? I don't have a strong need for higher security SSL on my site, which is what I understand the main purpose of HTTPS to be so, to improve SEO, would I be better off getting rid of this and going with HTTP? Or would 301 redirects be a better option?
Thanks for your help!
