You should implement 301 redirects from your old pages to their new locations. It's sounds like you have a fairly large site, which means Google has tons of your old pages in its index that it is going to continue to crawl for some time. It's probably not going to impact you negatively, but if you want to get rid of the errors sooner I would throw in some 301s. \

With the 301s you'll also get any link value that the old pages may be getting from external links (I know you said there are none, but with 200K+ pages it's likely that at least one of the pages is being linked to from somewhere).

Re-writing so many product descriptions is a big task. I would first see if you can combine any of the products into a single page.

For example, if you have "12 inch red kite" and "18 inch red kite" and the products are identical except for the size, create a single product page with a dropdown to select the size. If your CMS doesn't allow you to do that, you can create a separate page and canonical the other pages to it. That way, you reduce the amount of unique content you have to write.

Getting user generated content from things like reviews can also help streamline the unique content creation. Incentivizing customers with coupons is a great way to have them coming back to your site and leaving a review.

I've worked with a number of ecommerce sites... my recommendation would start by fixing on-page factors first. Just basic stuff like titles, image alts, URLs, semantic markup, etc. Fix it at the template level, so it's taken care of site-wide.

Site architecture is key with a large site, so make sure that your site is laid out properly. Mostly this means making sure your categorization/organization makes sense, making sure all your content is being linked to, and eliminating duplicate content issues.

Once all the on-page stuff has been taken care, I would focus on link building. Building links to an ecommerce site is not easy, but it's doable. Start by taking a look at some of your competitors, to see where they are getting links. As an ecomm site you can also take advantage of things like giveaways and contests to attract links. Remember that every keyword you add to your URL decreases the value of every other keyword you have in the URL. You want to include a few keywords in your URL for SEO value, but not so many that it dilutes the value of the other keywords. Also, having an overly long URL is a poor user experience.

So in this case, I would not include the word "vintage" in your URL for a 3rd time, because the SEO value is marginal and it will dilute the value of your other keywords, as well as making an already long URL even longer. And like I said, changing your URL structure will result in a loss of PageRank.

If you've been running your site for a while, I would recommend against changing your URL structure as 301s do result in some loss of link value, and you will likely see your rankings drop. The URLs you have now aren't bad, so I would focus on higher value activities such as link building. Ultimately, Google weighs offsite factors more highly than a few on-site tweaks.

The discrepancy between noindexed/indexed pages is not in itself a problem. However having all those pages will present a challenge to Google, in terms of crawling. Even though the pages won't be indexed, Google will need to spend some of your limited crawl budget crawling all those pages.

Also, to recover from Panda it's necessary to not only noindex duplicate content, but improve your indexed content. That means things like consolidating similar pages into one page, writing unique content for your pages, and getting unique user-generated content such as reviews.

Just because you create a new page and delete the old one, Google won't know immediately about it. So if Google crawls the new page before it's had a chance to crawl the old one, then it will indeed consider the new page to be duplicate content. Then when it tries to crawl the old page, it will discover that it no longer exists. However, as long as links to the old page exist, it will continue to try to crawl that page. Eventually it may de-index the old page if it keeps returning an error.

Bottom line, if you are moving content to a new URL, be sure to include a 301 redirect on the old page so that Google (and other search engines) know that the piece of content has moved. You can also do this with canonical tags, but 301s are more effective.

If you're already translating the content, it makes sense to translate the URLs as well as part of the process. Think about it, for a non-English speaker the English URLs are effectively gibberish. It would be like if you were given a URL that was in Chinese or Korean. Aside from being a poor user experience, it's not optimal from an SEO perspective as well, as keywords are going to change from language to language, so keeping the English words doesn't make sense.

If you are just worried about changing a page's url, just be sure to put in a 301 redirect from the old page to the new page. That way, even if Google has an older version of the page indexed, it will automatically redirect the user to the new page as well as help Google discover the new location of the page.

Link building is a necessary task, as links are still the primary factor that Google looks at when evaluating your site.

I would go for the highest PR links you think you can get. PageRank is logarithmic, which means a PR3 links is roughly 100 times higher on the PR scale than a PR2 link. It can be easier to approach smaller sites when you are just starting out, but if you have the chance at getting a PR5 link, that's worth a lot more than getting a dozen PR2s.
