HubPages.com?
-
Hi All,
Does anyone have any info/opinions/scoop on HubPages.com? A client is considering using the service and I don't know much about it. Having a hard time figuring out the SEO value it would provide. It doesn't nofollow the links you create, which is nice, but not sure if the pages you create on this site provide any real link juice.
Client isn't interested really in generating revenue, but rather just wants to help increase exposure for his brand. He already has a blog going, so I'm trying to determine if putting in effort to creating articles on this site would be worthwhile, or if we should focus efforts more on other backlink methods, such as guest posting on blogs.
Anyone have thoughts?

Not sure if back links from sites like hub pages carry the same weight anymore. IMO Google has gotten wise to article spamming to generate back links. Personally I would concentrate on producing great content and articles on your own site. Give people a reason to link to the site

Hi Diane.
I did notice hubpages offered an ad revenue sharing program but I did not review the details.
With respect to adding additional links, there are many factors involved and Google does not publicize their algorithm so we are left to made educated guesses and report on various test results.
My recommendation when working with external article publishing sites is they offer the two benefits mentioned above. They allow you to expose your site to an established audience which you may otherwise not reach. Also they provide a link to your site. The primary value I seek from the link is to broaden my site's backlink profile. The actual value of the link, and of multiple links from the same site, is highly debatable. We do know the value of most sitewide links is very low, so the theory "the more links the better" is not necessary true.
If you offer a second article on the same site, that second link would likely offer some value to your site. The link's value would likely be increased if it was from a comparable site where you have not previously published an article.
Forget about Google for a moment and think of it from a pure exposure perspective. If site A offered to publish your article and expose it to their 10k readers, that is great. When it is time to publish a second article, you can either share it with site B and their 10k readers or site A. The advantage site B offers is you can raise your brand awareness and gain traffic from a potentially new group of users.

This is very interesting ryan. If you have a number of articles on one article site, would this not increase your link juice to your site.
With reference to earning money on hub pages i and friends of mine have submitted lots of articles on the site and have never earned a single penny.

I have never used HubPages but it appears to be one of many forms of article publishing sites. You write an article, publish it on their site, and the benefit is the site has it's own group of readers who will see your article.
The benefits your client would receive is exposing his brand and a link back to his site from the article. The challenge is the article will need to be very good in order for others to read it. If the article is great, then your client is missing the opportunities of having the article on his own site.
This struggle is the constant issue with deciding whether to publish content on other sites. If you take this approach, I would suggest 1 article per year on these sites is enough to expose your brand and earn a unique domain link. Spread your content amongst other similar sites rather then offer one site multiple articles. Ultimately your goal should be to publish the content on your own site.

The brand drop down doesn't seem to be appearing for any brands in google.com.hk. Is it something which needs to be set up and registered, or automatically rolled out by Google?
In google.com.hk SERPs the brand drop down doesn't seem to be appearing for any brands. Is it something which needs to be set up and registered, or automatically rolled out by Google? And if so is Google just slow rolling out in this part of the world? Thanks

.land extension or .com extension? Please help!
hi, its me again. I bought 2 domains for my new site I want to build. My keyword is: "BabyHazelGames" babyhazelgames.land ( for me it sounded like "the land of baby hazel" etc ) PlayHazel.com ( short .com domain, still says what the sites about ) If u check first page for this keyword u see most of the sites are EMD-s or filler partial EMD ( on .com-s)Someone told me to buy a EMD since I fight with EMD-s on first page, and its the only way I have a chance! I bought The games license, theme license and all of these. That was alot of money, and I dont want to put all my money and work on the wrong domain name. Please help me decide between these 2; Thanks!

.re or .com domain
I am thinking about changing the name of my site. The new name is available with .re domain (that spells the name) or a .com. I have registered the .re and the .com is parked and for sale so my question has 2 parts. Is it worth buying the .com or do I really not need it? How much does it matter in terms of losing traffic and other factors? If I do buy it which should I use as the primary domain? Thanks!

Do .CO domains rank up just as easy as a .com domain?
I have ran across a very good .CO domain and am thinking about making it into one of our main websites. I have no experience with them. I have used/bought just about every other domain type out there, but I have never used a .CO yet. The domain I was able to purchase was seobusiness.co for $5.00 - regardless if I am able to use it for our main brand if they don't rank up the same, I will use it for something else. The site isn't up yet btw, so no need visiting it... The keyword gets 1600 exact hits a month give or take a few of course - thats just the Google tool estimate. Matt Cutts says that they can rank up the same, but I am looking for more than this. Does anyone have some proof that .co's can rank up? I hate to put 2-3 months of solid work into this to rank it up for SEO business and it doesn't want to rank due to the .co. Thanks in advance for your time.

.NET VS .COM VS Keyword Density in the URL, What do you suggest?
I am about to launch an eCom project for a new company. The client has three URL's available. I recognize keyword density is slowly becoming less and less of a factor, but still has significant relevance. I haven't had much experience working on .NET URL's and would like to know anything related to the effects of .NET url's vs. .COM url's. Also, just what you would go with and why? Option 1 "EXACTMATCHKEYWORD.net" (17 total characters) Option 2 "MOSTLYMATCHINGKEYWORDcompany.com" (21 total characters, with company) Option 3 "ABEXACTMATCHKEYWORD.com" -AB represents the company's initials/logo. (19 total characters) USEFUL POINTS 1. 95% of purchases will be one time purchases (so I'm not focused as much on company branding as usual). 2. The company name is actually "exact matching keyword Company" 3. We will be targeting 100's of terms, but the "exact match keyword" represents 1/4 of total search volumes and thus is extremely important.

Yahoo Directory, BOTW, BBB and Business.com for local SEO?
I've heard conflicting reports about using these paid directories for SEO purposes. I am a local Realtor with a website and blog. My site is on page one but near the bottom since the national sites dominate the top. Would these directories help me for local seo purposes? Does Google consider these paid links and therefore devalues them? How difficult is it to get into these directories since they can decline a submission and there goes my money? Are these directories worth the money? In total it would be like $1200 do get on all. I've already done what I believe to be a lot of good seo practices. Emphasis on I believe since I'm no expert. Just learning as I go. Now I'm up against the big brands in real estate and meet to compete. Any tips if these directories are worth it and anything else I should look to do?
