When creating articles what are the rules of thumb for titles and url links.
-
For example lets say I'm looking to rank for “Window Glass Replacement”. What kinds of articles should I create for this? Does it matter? Should I create articles such as How to know if your windows need replacement, then have the text in my link say “Window Glass Replacement.” Should I try and vary the link name? Should I vary the titles of my articles, or just make sure the content is different?

Hi,
I was not aware that you were talking about articles for article marketing. However, in this case you should also try to write different content with different headings, in order to avoid duplicate content and to make for a more interesting read. Before you submit them to article directories, I would still pause to think whether it makes more sense to have them on your site and try to build links to the article.
-
So it would be ok to say have 8 articles that say Window Glass Replacement in the h1 tag or does that need to be varied as well?
-
Hi Aran
These articles are for an external article marketing campaign. I could also put them on the website itself, but wouldn't that take away from article marketing efforts because of duplicate content?
-
I try and go a little out of the box on things like this, particularly when the subject is dull (i work alot with insurance!).
How to guide are always a winner with niche bloggers. As are Top 10 articles, etc.
Are these articles to be hosted within your site to act as additional content landing pages for particular keywords, as part of link baiting campaign or an external article marketing campaign?
In any case you should vary your Titles, to prevent duplicate content issues. In terms of links I agree with Paessler, vary the anchor text. But if the article is a great one with really useful information etc, why not contact a few niche websites /bloggers and send them a link, perhaps you can pick up a few natural links!

Hi,
you should create unique articles, with unique headings. As you will be targeting different keywords, it would not make sense to use the same headline for different articles. Also, try to make the content of each article really unique, do not just substitute a few words.
If you want to rank for Windows Glass Replacement, I would recommend to use this keyword in the h1, you can then use something like How to know if your windows need replacement as h2. When you build links to this page, you should definitely vary the anchor text, including just anchor text with the URL or "click here" (the latter, if you are going to build a lot of links to this page, if you can only get a few, I would go for good variations of "Windows Glass Replacement", e.g. "replace windows glass", "windows replacement"...

URL Change, Old URLs Still In Index
Recently changed URLs on a website to remove dynamic parameters. We 301'd the old dynamic links (canonical version) to the cleaner parameter-free URLs. We then updated the canonical tags to reflect these changes. All pages dropped at least a few ranking positions and now Moz shows both the new page ranking slightly lower in results pages and the old page still in the index. I feel like I'm splitting value between the two page versions until the old one disappears... is there a way to consolidate this quickly?

Site Link Issues
For several search terms I get site links for the page http://www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/kolea-condos/ It makes sense that that page be a site link as it is one of my most used pages, but the problem is google gave it the site link "Kolea 10A". I am having 0 luck making any sense of why that was chosen. It should be something like "Kolea Condos" or something of that nature. Does anyone have any thoughts on where google is coming up with this?

How should we handle re-directory links? Should we remove these links?
We are currently cleaning up bad links that were purchased by a previous SEO agency. We have found links on anonym.to pages that redirect traffic to our site automatically. How should this be handled? Should we remove these links?

Swapping key phrases in URL, Title and H1 tag
I was wondering if swapping key phrases would still work in URL, Titlte and H1 tags For example: <code>Car Sales Melbourne Sales Car Melbourne carsalesmelbourne.com.au salescarmelbourne.com.au</code> So the second key phrase would you be able to get similar effect with correct key phrase or if location is different, would this not work at all?

Do canonical tags pass all of the link juice onto the URL they point to?
I have an ecommerce website where the category pages have various sorting and paging options which add a suffix to the URLs. My site is setup so the root category URL, domain.com/category-name, has a canonical tag pointing to domain.com/category-name/page1/price however all links, both interner & external, point to the former (i.e. domain.com/category-name). I would like to know whether all of the link juice is being passed onto the canonical tag URL? Otherwise should I change the canonical tag to point the other way? Thanks!

Link building question
ok so we paid the top firm in seo to help us build an seo strategy and i think we have a good one. We are changing our link building tactics and making more Pr related links and creating awesome content on blogs or our own site to generate traffic and links to our site. We have data from our engineer which should be interesting and we are going to sponsor events, do some link baiting with some of our articles, get a pr firm to get us some good articles on major sites and go to events around phily where we will have unique content and a unique perspective such as car shows ect. The problem is even though all the content will be linked to our site how do we link them. We got hit by penguin but in these articles or blogs should we use the anchor text for the word we are using. The company says dont do it right now bc we got hit with penguin and should only use the brand. I have no idea how only using the brand and not the keywords will magically make us rank for certain keywords. Anyone have an opinion. Thank you and we do pretty well with seo but we did get little bit of a hit with penguin that we are eliminating links and making a new way of thinking when it comes to link building. We also just hired a designer so we are going to build 100s of pages on the site to increase seo with unique content and that is also a goal of ours for the year. We have two marketers on staff and 4 programmers so we are able to do anything. Our urls are terrible but the rest of the site is pretty good

Canonical URL Issue
Hi Everyone, I'm fairly new here and I've been browsing around for a good answer for an issue that is driving me nuts here. I tried to put the canonical url for my website and on the first 5 or 6 pages I added the following script SEOMoz reported that there was a problem with it. I spoke to another friend and he said that it looks like it's right and there is nothing wrong but still I get the same error. For the URL http://www.cacaniqueis.com.br/video-caca-niqueis.html I used the following: <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://www.cacaniqueis.com.br/video-caca-niqueis.html" /> Is there anything wrong with it? Many thanks in advance for the attention to my question.. 🙂 Alex
