YouTube or Hosting Outfit to Boost Pages?
-
Okay, so have used video to both get my pages to rank and have Google see the Youtube result as another result for the same keywords as our page(s).
All good.
Now I'm thinking, "Self, am I better off embedding the video on our site with a third party service other than Youtube or continuing to embed the video from Youtube?"
Would I be more likely to have our page show up higher and with a little player icon in Google SERPs if I hosted it outside of Youtube?
Your thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi Sha & Gianluca,
Thanks for the thoughtful responses. I guess my only thing with Wistia is that it looks kind of expensive. If it were cheap, I would for sure go with it.
Gianluca, we've embedded youtube on our site before. Are you saying that if I did what I always did, but submitted a video sitemap to Google showing x video on x page, I'd get the video result benefit in Google's serps? If that's all it takes, I feel silly for not doing that before!
Best...Michael

Sha gave a great answer, but i offer you an alternative:
host the site in YouTube but:
- create a video sitemaps in order to specify that the video is on your site. That way, it is possible that Google will show your video "attached" to your web page in the Unversal Search (both as organic and video result). A quite good video sitemap generator is "A1 Sitemap Generator". If you run on Wordpress you could use this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/xml-sitemaps-for-videos/
Then, follow what Paddy Moogan suggests in this post on Distilled: Getting Links and SEO Value from your YouTube Videos
That post explains very easily how to create an embed code for the YouTube video embedded in your page in order to offer the opportunity to others to use it in their sites... and with an attribution link to your site.

Hi,
I would host on site using a service that will create & submit video xml sitemaps and give you access to awesome statistics, while passing link credit back to your own site, no matter where it gets shared.
Wistia would be my preferred option as I know that they fit the bill on all counts, but there are a few good services out there, so you could check out what is on offer.
This post from the SEOmoz Blog will give you an idea of the kind of data you have access to with the Wistia service, so you can make clear comparisons.
Of course, you can also add content to youtube, but I believe it isn't possible to create video xml sitemaps for youtube content.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Rel canonical tag from shopify page to wordpress site page
We have pages on our shopify site example - https://shop.example.com/collections/cast-aluminum-plaques/products/cast-aluminum-address-plaque That we want to put a rel canonical tag on to direct to our wordpress site page - https://www.example.com/aluminum-plaques/ We have links form the wordpress page to the shop page, and over time ahve found that google has ranked the shop pages over the wp pages, which we do not want. So we want to put rel canonical tags on the shop pages to say the wp page is the authority. I hope that makes sense, and I would appreciate your feeback and best solution. Thanks! Is that possible?

Google webcache of product page redirects back to product page
Hi all– I've legitimately never seen this before, in any circumstance. I just went to check the google webcache of a product page on our site (was just grabbing the last indexation date) and was immediately redirected away from google's cached version BACK to the site's standard product page. I ran a status check on the product page itself and it was 200, then ran a status check on the webcache version and sure enough, it registered as redirected. It looks like this is happening for ALL indexed product pages across the site (several thousand), and though organic traffic has not been affected it is starting to worry me a little bit. Has anyone ever encountered this situation before? Why would a google webcache possibly have any reason to redirect? Is there anything to be done on our side? Thanks as always for the help and opinions, y'all!

Product Pages not indexed by Google
We built a website for a jewelry company some years ago, and they've recently asked for a meeting and one of the points on the agenda will be why their products pages have not been indexed. Example: http://rocks.ie/details/Infinity-Ring/7170/ I've taken a look but I can't see anything obvious that is stopping pages like the above from being indexed. It has a an 'index, follow all' tag along with a canonical tag. Am I missing something obvious here or is there any clear reason why product pages are not being indexed at all by Google? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Update I was told 'that each of the product pages on the full site have corresponding page on mobile. They are referred to each other via cannonical / alternate tags...could be an angle as to why product pages are not being indexed.'

Hreflang and paginated page
Hi, I can not seem to find good documentation about the use of hreflang and paginated page when using rel=next , rel=prev
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | TjeerdvZ
Does any know where to find decent documentatio?, I could only find documentation about pagination and hreflang when using canonicals on the paginated page. I have doubts on what is the best option: The way tripadvisor does it:
http://www.tripadvisor.nl/Hotels-g187139-oa390-Corsica-Hotels.html
Each paginated page is referring to it's hreflang paginated page, for example: So should the hreflang refer to the pagined specific page or should it refer to the "1st" page? in this case:

What keywords should my main page contain ?
Hello. I have a domain with scripts and components for websites, each product page is somehow different and contains different phrases and keywords, for example: a) Flash Photo Gallery
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | adrianTNT
b) JavaScript Menu
c) Flash Menu
d) PHP Rating Script
e) PHP Poll script It's kind of clear for me how to optimize keywords on these pages individually, but what would be best content / terms / keywords to use on my main page and main page title and anchor text to my root domain? Should it be a mix of all these keywords mentioned above ? Or is it better to be a general term like "website scripts" ?0 -
Wrong page being ranked
Hi there, This seems a bit of a strange one, I have a particular keyword which I am trying to rank for, all internal links with the appropriate anchor text are pointing to the page I want to rank for, for this particular keyword, all external links are pointing to the page I want to rank for, for this particular keyword, however Google is ranking another page on my website for this keyword and the bizarre things is the page which is being ranked is a .PDF I am really not sure what else to do to give Google the hint that they are ranking the wrong page, any ideas? Kind Regards

Category Pages up - Product Pages down... what would help?
Hi I mentioned yesterday how one of our sites was losing rank on product pages. What steps do you take to improve the SERPS of product pages, in this case home/category/product is the tree. There isn't really any internal linking, except one link from the category page to each product, would setting up a host of internal links perhaps "similar products" linking them together be a place to start? How can I improve my ranking of these more deeply internal pages? Not just internal links?
