Competiton Creating Links from high ranking blogs through comments?
-
So I have been noticing that a lot of my competition is leaving a lot of non sense comments on high ranking blogs. What they are doing is either
A. Linking the username they are using back to the page they want to link or
B. Within their comment on that blog leaving their URL in the text or end of comment.
Question is does this even work to get links back to your page? Is this that even ethical SEO? Might be a dumb questions but how am i suppose to fight this when its already hard enough to come up with unique content for a e commerce site and then i have to battle my competition doing this?

Question is does this [blog commenting spam] even work to get links back to your page?
It works by definition. You see the link back to the page, so yes it works. I think the question you really want to ask is whether or not this is a best practice and should you be doing it.
Is this that even ethical SEO?
No. It is a black hat tactic. This practice as you described is being performed specifically to manipulate search engine results.
How am i suppose to fight this when its already hard enough to come up with unique content for a e commerce site and then i have to battle my competition doing this?
Do everything you can to practice ethical link building. There are dozens of means by which you can obtain links. Focus your effort on creating world-class content which others will want to link to.
I will use the SEOmoz blog as an example. Take a look at this article: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/what-is-a-reverse-proxy-and-how-can-it-help-my-seo
Notice the article has received 82 thumbs up, 0 thumbs down. Scroll to the bottom of the article and you will find impressive social engagement: 399 tweets, 82 facebook likes, 22 google +1s. Every tweet is a link, and facebook likes and Google +1s can be links or create other links. I am also willing to bet many people will quote, reference and link to the article as well. This article is topical (SEO topic on a SEO site), it addresses a real need which affects many people, it is very short but well written, and it includes a great infographic. If you can generate one article like this a week for your site, all you need to do is let the world know about the article and the links will come.
If you decide to use blogs as a means to promote your content, I would share a few suggestions:
-
focus on blogs relevant to your industry. Linking to a vitamin site in a blog comment from an article discussing health tips has a lot more value then linking from an article discussing car insurance.
-
become an active member of the blog communities where you share comments. Learn the latest topics and issues in your industry and talk about them.
-
don't link to your site in every reply. Don't link to your site in most replies. Become a genuine member of the community.
-
Be authentic and helpful. If you have knowledge, freely share it. Build up a reputation in the community as a respected authority. A single link to a site from a respected authority is worth more then 1000 of the random blog links you described.
Also understand Google is aware of the problem with blog article comment spam. Many blogs will nofollow all comment links for this reason. Others allow the links but then manually review and remove the spam. Others will leave the spam, but generally these blogs are less respected and valued because people don't like spam. Also, the blogs which leave their sites open to spam are flooded with links. Each link devalues the other links on the page. When you get to the point of having 500+ links, none of them have any value at all. I've seen pages with thousands of links with people still adding new ones every day as if they had value.
In all likelihood, Google's quality team has seen many of the sites you are referring to and devalued the site's outgoing links due to spam. People will continue adding links, but none of them have any value. Additionally, Google may have reviewed the site itself and determined the site has too high of a percentage of spam links and devalued them.
TL;DR - don't add to blog comment spam and don't worry if your competitors engage in the practice. Buckle down and build the best content and links you can.

Hi
I think that the unique content for a site is only a% to get a good ranking in search engines.
So if you want to compete with other sites you have to spend time writing in blogs or forums or facebook talking about good quality of services you offer on your site.Maybe you'll understand if the sites where your comments are of good quality to get quality back links
Ciao

What is the importance of root domains linking to your website in Google's rankings? I notice our competition has a much higher number on keywords I'm analyzing. Thank you!
I've noticed our competition has a much higher number of "root domains" linking to their page than we do. Is this simply a result of more websites linking to them? How long does it normally take to build up these numbers/rankings? (I'm assuming it's a concerted effort, which I'll be researching.) Thank you!

Thoughts on creating a resource/recommend links page in order to attain links?
Hey guys, Just wondering, how does Google view reciprocal link building nowadays? I've heard in the past that it's something that Google isn't particularly keen on. However, more recently, I've also read that - as long as the links are decent (and in moderation) - link exchanging is by no means a bad thing. The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of creating a "resource/recommended links page" for a client of mine. Because of their industry, it's really apparent that attaining links is often only possible if there is the opportunity of a reciprocal link in return. Therefore, I'd need to have a resource/recommend links page of my own. Is this something I should go ahead with to make it much easier to attain links? Or should I try to avoid reciprocal links and attempt to pinpoint one-way linking opportunities - even if they're thin on the ground? Any help much as appreciated as always. Cheers.

The better my blog gets, the lower my rankings!
My blog was hit by Google Panda on July 21. My rankings dropped dramatically overnight. Nothing I do is helping. In fact, the day my guest post was published on one of the biggest blogs in my niche (DA over 70) my Google impressions dropped to an all time low and then got worse. (250 impressions and 12 clicks) You can see the first drop and the second drop in these screenshots and yes Google Webmasters and Google Analytics match. http://tinypic.com/r/2dvtvlj/5 http://tinypic.com/r/4u83t4/5 I am getting more fans, subscribers, traffic etc but my Google traffic just gets worse. I would really like to get some organic traffic! But I have no idea why this is happening. I checked manual actions and there is nothing. I cleaned up crawl errors and duplicate content. I get several backlinks a week within my niche from high authority sites. I just don't get it and I am very discouraged. What should I do?

My homepage is ranking great but my blog posts have dissappeared
It all happened a few weeks after Penguin 2.0 was released so I'm not sure if it is in any way related. My home page robt.info currently ranks really well for relevant key words like kids author. This has lead me to believe that 2.0 didn't negatively effect my site. I'm not in the business of anything remotely black hat related and purely focus on content. But, if you search for individual blog posts (which are extremely unique), they are nowhere to be seen. For example, one post I did was a story titled 'Fairy Floss For Brains'. Up until the second week of June I ranked extremely well for these really weird and unique blog posts. But now, they don't rank very well at all. Not even in top 100. They are indexed and in my sitemap. Can anyone please help me resolve this issue? Is there something I have done wrong that anyone can see? EDIT: I was able to utilise feedback from my question to resolve my issue. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP GUYS!

Is my linking tactic affecting my rankings?
Hello All, I'd like to think that my SEO style was both helpful and useful. But lately i've been thinking that I may be damaging my own SEO! Let me explain, I love forums and technical gossip. Being a IT guy, I usually find an interesting question from websites like Yahoo, Microsoft, SOASE Forums etc etc and write a decent article on one of the questions going into real detail. I then post my basic answer (word limits) and a hyperlink incase anybody wants to read the rest of my article. I used to think that this was great for SEO, because it was certainly great for making great connections. However, a backlink check on my website shows that I have a good 40 - 60 hyperlinks, 40/ 50 of which from just Forums I've posted on but only from 3 - 4 domains. Would this affect my ratings? Looking at my own site from an SEO consultant perspective, having one source of links seems awfully suspicious to me!

JavaScript is crawled by search engines, isn’t it? Does it mean that links embedded in JavaScript pass link juice?
I wonder If links embedded in JavaScript from an external Website pass link juice to the linked page and thus have a positive effect on google rankings. I read that JavaScipt is craweld. Does it mean that also the link juice is passed? I'm looking forward to your answers.

Do sites on the same c-block and same server count as seperate linking root domains when linking to each other?
Lets say there are 50 businesses who have their website on the same server and are on the same c-block but the owners of the individual sites are different (i.e. they are all completely different sites not relevant to each other). Each of those sites are linking to each other due to a feature on the sites. This obviously increases the number of total links to each site but does it also increase the number of linking root domains? Or does this just show up as one linking root domain due to all of them being on the same server and the sharing the same c-block?
