Multiple blogs for one site
-
Hello, one of my competitors built all these blogs and pointed them to their main site.. Is this white hat?

Also I am looking at my links vs. theirs and they have a much higher point score for links... But the company I am doing SEO for has most of same quality links. Can this be the reason they have an edge?

All of a sudden this company is no longer ranking for their main keywords... Could multiple logs used for keywords and content harm a ranking or be considered cheating to google? or did they do something else to get punished?

A quick check of the IP addresses (http://www.seochat.com/?option=com_seotools&tool=35) shows that whoever made all of these microsites intentionally diversified the Class C addresses of these websites. This suggests that someone with a fairly advanced knowledge of SEO is behind this little link scheme.
Microsites aren't anything groundbreaking. These are pretty well done - the content seems unique and there has been some linkbuilding work done to the websites. I would definitely say that these are contributing to your competitor's success.
The question then becomes...is this something you should be replicating? That's a more complicated answer. Microsites can be effective, especially if you give them the same level of TLC that these microsites have received. Are they your best use of time and resources? Not always. The effort spent to build content and develop links for these microsites is probably better spent creating content and developing links for your main site.
The flipside of the argument is that creating engaging content and attracting backlinks in a niche industrial market can be tricky, and sometimes manual linkbuilding (like creating microsites) is just way easier. The "white hat" response to that is that with enough creativity, pure white hat SEO success is possible. I'd recommend reading Rand Fishkin's post, "White Hat SEO: It F-ing Works" - if you read through, he breaks down some awesome linkbuilding campaigns that have been executed in "boring" industries. It's definitely worth the read.

Unlinked mentions that seem to be FROM by site
Hi Everyone I'm new to SEO so apologies if this is a silly question. I'm using the unlinked mentions tool and as far as I can see the mentions are from my own site! I've attached a screen grab. Am I being a muppet? I thought that it would show mentions on OTHER sites that I don't have a link back to my site! The screen grab appears to show links on my site, as in posts on my own forum? Thanks for your help! Cw2bjhw

Backlinks 101, one or multiple?
Analyzing a competitor backlink profile I noticed they have the habit of adding multiple links to the guest post/advertorial they get, one link to their site, plus some links to authority site like wikipedia and institutional websites. Is there anyone with some data, testing, and so on, supporting this? I can see their SERP positioning is very good, but they spent a lot of money on quite expensive links, so I don't know if it's the DA of the linking domains or the multiple links making the difference. Anyone has an idea?

Good alternative to guest blogging
Hi, After many years of on-page I've just started in the world of link building and I'm currently working on an e-commerce website. I've noticed that most blogs devoted to this sector that are worth their salt will only accept guest blog requests for payment. So here's the question, is there any way to circumvent this? Is there any other way to achieve the same results I would with guest blogging without having to pay for it? Thanks in advance

When targeting multiple cities for specific keyword phrases, do local links like Merchant Circle, & Yelp need to be present for each town?

Multiple links to dead pages
I have just taken over a client and have been shocked to see a lot of wasted 'link juice' from hundreds of websites linking to old/dead pages within my client's domain. My question is - what is the best method to re-capture that juice given that it is impractical to change the links at source. Thanks.

SEOs and web developers frequently leave links to their site in the footer of their clients' sites. Does this negatively impact the site with the links?
Does this provide any SEO value to the receiving site? Has anyone experienced problems doing this?
