How do you get photo galleries indexed on Google News?
-
I work for a news site and some of our photo galleries get indexed by Google News while others never do. I'm trying to determine why some are more successful than others even though they all follow the same guidelines regarding keyword-rich headlines & copy, h1s, etc. When comparing what's been indexed in the past with current galleries, there doesn't appear to be an obvious pattern. Can anyone share some insight into this?

Thanks Casey. I do not have a problem getting indexed on Google. I'm specifically referring to Google News indexing. I have yet to find any specific recommendations for getting photo galleries indexed on Google News.
We always have ALT tags filled out and we are getting better at naming our files with keywords, although we do have some CMS limitations in regard to file names. We do a pretty good job with writing captions and including keywords, we always specify the image size (height/width/file size), attribute images, and optimize internal anchor text with at least one major keyword phrase.
My real problem is that we do all of this for all of our photo galleries yet only some get indexed in Google News. The one thing we do not do is include photo galleries in our sitemap and I'm making that change this week. Hopefully that does the trick.

Google image optimization can be hit or miss. But honestly, VERY few people actually spend the time to implement the suggestions Google tells you to implement.
For example, have you reviewed the detailed video and resources on this question directly from Google here:
http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=175538
In your question, you didn't mention keyword-rich file names or ALT tags on the images. By far the TWO most important optimization guidelines in my opinion and which Google mentions specifically above. Some other considerations to take into account when optimization images are the following:
-
the context around the image
-
internal anchor texts linking to the image galleries themselvers
-
external anchor texts/links coming into the image galleries
-
making sure to specify the height and width of the images (this definitely helps)
-
adding an image SITEMAP to your site listing all your images
I do ALL the above and can't say I've ever had an issue with my image galleries or those of our clients NOT getting indexed. But who knows, we "could" just be getting lucky?
Hope this helps. Good luck!

A company claiming to have a proprietary software that replicates Google algorithm?
Hi all, Unfortunately, getting into a bit of a p*ssing match 😞 with a company trying to compete for the business of one of our clients and just wanted to some feedback from the community here. The company competing for the client's business claims to have spent $1 million to replicate Google's algorithm so they create a replica site (not sure I understand this) of the client site, then test and optimize on-page SEO changes in their software to determine whether the on-page changes are ideal. Sounds fishy to me. Thoughts?

Https & Google Updated Guidelines
Hi We have https on aspects of the site which users directly interact with, such as login, basket page. But we don't have https across the whole site. In light of Google adding it to their guidelines - is this something we need to put into action? Also same question on the Accessibility point Ensure that your pages are useful for readers with visual impairments, for example, by testing usability with a screen-reader. Are we going to be penalised if these are not added to our site? Thank you

Does anyone have an idea of the benefits of Google Analytics Premium?
We've been having a discussion about the GA Premium service here in our office, trying to weigh up the pro's and con's... For the majority all it seems you gain access to is more support from google. We're trying to find out if that is the case or if you gain extra information, such as and insight into the search terms who must not be named. Of course i'm talking about the (Not Set) data... This section of data is ever increasing, yes i know we can access certain terms through webmasters but it was so much easier (in the good ol' days) when all the data was under one roof! Any thought opinions or even more questions would be greatly appreciated, i look forward to your responses. Anthony

Google penalty for one keyword?
Is it possible to get penalized by Google for a specific keyword and essentially disappear from the SERPs for that keyword but keep position for the brand (#1) and some other keywords (#4 and #7)? And how would you find out that this is what happened if there is no GWT message?

Why would Google read different pages to rank for a keyword?
I have noticed a large drop in a number of keywords in the latest rankings report. I have checked the results on the 'Ranking History Graph' and it appears that Google is reading different pages for the specific keyword and therefore, giving large fluctuations in ranking dependant on the page from week to week. Why would this be happening?

Site name appended to page title in google search
Hi there, I have a strange problem concerning how the search results for my site appears in Google. The site is Texaspoker.dk and for some strange reason that name is appended at the end of the page title when I search for it in Google. The site name is not added to the page titles on the site. If I search in Google.dk (the relevant search engine for the country I am targeting) for "Unibet Fast Poker" I get the following page title displayed in the search results: Unibet Fast Poker starter i dag - få €10 og prøv ... - Texaspoker.dk If you visit the actual page you can see that there is no site name added to the page title: http://www.texaspoker.dk/unibet-fast-poker It looks like it is only being appended to the pages that contains rich snippets markup and not he forum threads where the rich snippets for some reason doesn't work. If I do a search for "Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events" the title appears as it should without the site name being added: Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events Anybody have any experience regarding this or an idea to why this is happening? Maybe the rich snippets are automatically pulling the publisher name from my Google+ account... edited: It doesn't seem to have anything to do with rich snippets, if I search for "Billeder og stuff v.2" the site name is also appended and if I search for "bedste poker bonus" the site name is not.
