How does TTH have only 220 Domain Backlinks?
-
Was looking at these guys today http://www.tentonhammer.com/ One of the orginal games websites, an authority in its niche and 7 years old (about as long as that niche has existed)
Its all unique, high quality content but it has a only 220 linking domains, including BBC etc
It doesnt make any sense to me that this website should have so few linking domains. Anyone have a thought as to whats going on here?

Cheers Pete
I had a look at Majestic and they are reporting about 40k links, which seems the correct order of magnitude
I know they used to have each game on a subdomain and they now seem to redirect to the subfolder. Ill have a closer look then, possibly they mucked up their redirects
tx
EDIT, just checked, I get both www and non www resolving fine (they should 301 one or the other, but as it stands both work for me)
Their old subdomains ddo.tentonhammer correctly 301 redirect to tentonhammer.com/doo
weirdly swtor.tentonhammer.com redirects to swtorhub.com tho

Looks like they may have a ton of links to deep pages on sub-domains (like forums.tentonhammer.com), so we're not reporting the count right across the root domain. Once I dig in and export data, it's making more sense.
They're also doing something weird on the root domain - tentonhammer.com seems to redirect to www.tentonhammer.com, if you type it in, but then header checkers read it as a 200. So, we don't seem to be consolidating those links, either. I suspect that 220 number is way low.

That figure from Open Site Explorer does seem odd.
I used to be a mod for IGN / Vault Network so I'm very familar with TTH.
I am new to the tool, but the site is a top 30k global site and according to google has 181,000 in links. I can't imagine only 220 root domains generating that.

The SEOMOZ Plugin for Chrome.

Im doing this search http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=www.tentonhammer.com&sort=page_authority&filter=follow&source=external&target=domain&group=0
Where are you getting the 786k figure from?
cheers

Hi Stephan
If you scan mentions of the brand using Google, you see far more montions than 220.
If these numbers are coming from OSE it can be the case that the numbers are not that high in some cases. I would also use a histroic view on Majestic too.

.tentonhammer.com - 786,856 Bl's
Where are you only seeing 220?

Do they have anything link worthy? Are there forums established just for this game? I was active on tons of Diablo 2 forums back in the day, but not all games interact the same way.

What is the relationship between inbound links and linking domains?
In doing competitor research, there's a specific competitor that has fewer linking domains, but dramatically more inbound links. How do these two relate to each other? I do have a higher domain authority and more internal followed links with them having more internal nofollow and external (both follow and nofollow) links. I'm trying to understand how they can have 3.7k linking domains and 4.8 million inbound links while I have 4.1k linking domains and only 601k inbound links. What really defines an inbound link and what's there relationship between inbound links and linking domains?

What's the difference between 'external links' and 'linking domains to this domain' in my report?
I'm looking at a competitor analysis report. The number provided for 'external links' is 150. The number for 'external links to this domain' is 4860 and 'linking domains to this domain' is 232. What are the differences between these numbers?

Should I move my brand under our corporate domain to boost Domain Authority?
Dear Community, I am seeking your expert advice on this situation: We have these assets as a starting point: a long-existing and well-linked Corporate Website (CW) with good metrics, a Brand Website (BW) with low/medium metrics, and some Brand Competitor (BC) websites with very similar metrics to BW. We will launch a new version of BW very soon with a well SEOd structure and copy (the old one was not SEOd at all) which I hope itself will bring SERP advantages. My dilemma emerged after checking the domain level values of our Corporate Website: CW / BW / BCs Domain Authority: 48 / 28 / 24-27 Domain mozRank: 4.79 / 3.15 / 2.6-3.25 Domain mozTrust: 4.73 / 2.79 / 2.47-3.06 My understanding is that based on seoMoz consensus domain level values give about 1/4th of the total pie. Based on these what do you think I should to win over competitors rankings? Should I keep running the service under BW (in an neighborhood with nearly identically valued competitors) Should I redirect BW to a sub-folder of the Corporate Website? (e.g.www.corporate.com/brand) with 301 redirects and enjoy the advantages of the much better domain values Alternatively, I could also build valuable and keyword-optimized content under our CW linking back to our BW. My understanding is that Option 1 has the least advantages among the three. Option 2 and 3 compete with the following advantages: Option 2: We could quickly rank higher as domain values elevate us from the mediocre BW and BC values (offsetting a little loss on 301 redirects) Option 3 would allow us to occuppy more positions for the important keywords on SERPs thus attract more "deep-browsing" visitors (and possibly BW could also get some advantages by receiving links from CW) Which direction would you proceed from here? Cheers, Andrew

Domain name advice please
Hi i am trying to work out what is the best when it comes to domain names. What i mean is, should you go short or should you try and fit in what you need. So as follows. say i need a domain name that i wanted to buy which i have done research and found that these two words together are good keywords. please note that this is an example the two keywords are manchester airport and the next two keywords are cheap flights should i get a domain name that say manchesterairportcheapflights or should i have a shorter domain name like manchester cheap flights or another example say i wanted a domain name that fitted the following two keywords in manchester hotels budget accomodation should i just get a domain name that says manchester hotels or should it get the following manchesterhotelsbudgetaccomodation I am looking at buying a number of domain names and i am trying to find out if shorter is better or if a longer domain name is better

How can I estimate a domain's overall organic search traffic - any tools?
Most of my analysis revolves around looking at rankings for specific keyword phrases that I've identified as important/relevant. But it'd be nice to be able to look at a domain and get a sense for how much organic traffic they get overall. If they're not ranking for the keywords I'm researching but have a lot of organic traffic that would be a nice signal to me that they are probably targeting other phrases more or have a big brand presence or something. Any suggestions? Thanks! Jeff Gibson

Why do some websites that have hardly any backlinks, poorly optimised get placed above sites that are doing all they can with SEO?
For example take these two websites. www.rfasecurity.co.uk is a site that Iam working on and have had some success with yet snifferdogs.org.uk seems to be poorly optimised with little backlinks and still gets place higher. is it due to the key word in the domian name? The key search word is sniffer dogs New at this so any help would be appreciated regards Dave
