Ranking above Auth domains question?
-
Hi,
How difficult would it be to rank a new page above the likes of Wiki, About, Squidoo etc?
I have a keyword I would like rank but most of the domains on first page are the likes of the above, wiki, about, squidoo etc.
The pages themselves dont have a high Page Auth its just the root domain.
Will it still be very hard to rank above these types of sites?
Cheers

I have seen some pretty crazy rankings from EMD's, I believe if you had these on your side, it would be A LOT easier to beat them.
-
i also find it is really hard to beat them in some keywords. even though amazon.es is a new to spanish market. already they are getting pretty good ranking. which we cant get.
the domain authority thing is so ridiculous

Cheers for the in-depth reply, all noted.
It will be a case of a whole site targeting 1 term against the 1 page on the high Auth sites.
I have once beat direct.gov (100% DA), which had the first 2 results taken by this site, but it did take over 1000 words of unique content, about 100 facebook likes, 4-5 guest posts and a exact match domain,
I can do all the above again apart from having the EMD, I just got a feeling the EMD played the biggest part :(.

I agree with Egol here. Quality content can beat these kinds of sites in the SERPs. If the pages don't have that high a Page Authority then you stand a good chance with a solid opage of good content with a couple of sdecent links pointing at the respective page.
-
Wiki and About can be hard to beat. Amazon and eBay can be hard to beat in the retail SERPs.
It is possible to beat them. I beat them on many good keywords and they are beating me on many good keywords.
Here are the two situations where I have success beating them....
-
When I have a page on an established domain where my content is clearly a LOT BETTER than their content. I can't name one keyword where I beat them with lower quality content. Usually when I beat them my content is an article that is.... "the first page of information that a person should read about that topic".
-
When I have an entire website about a topic that competes against their single page about that topic.
Neither of the two situations above guarantees that you will beat them. I have sites that have hundreds - even thousands of pages that are all about a topic with many articles, videos, .pdfs and more that are clearly superior - 100 times over for that topic - than wiki, amazon and about, however they simply have so much domain authority that unquestionably superior content - in enormous depth - can not beat them.

Sending Domain Authority from Root www domain to *
Hello all Some advice please. Im working with a friend who has a website (obviously). Its based on wordpress and is accessible by the link http://exampledomain.com. The problem is he has some good links out there which are pointing at http://www.exampledomain.com. As yet Im uncertain how he has setup his DNS, he maybe is doing a forward which would leave the DA back with the www subdomain. What is his best practice to inherit those links into his actual domain? Thanks

Backlink level of domain authority
Hi, we are trying to build on the number of good quality links. One idea we had is to provide testimonials for a number of suppliers websites. Which would include a link from our company name back to our site. Is there a certain level of domain authority we should only do this for? For example if a supplier only has a domain authority of 11 should we not get a back link? Many Thanks

Why is my domain authority so low?
Hello, a couple of years ago I started publishing on my site more than 10 posts a day of content that no one else had. For this reason, my competitors started paraphrasing my content without giving proper attribution, and they ranked better in Google. That's why I realized that apart from creating content I had to work on my SEO, so I started to get some backlinks, most of them via contests on blogs. I am getting about 1 high quality link from PR2, PR3 or PR4 blogs each week. According to Open Site Explorer, I have 20 root domain links (200 total links). In reality I have more backlinks but they don't show up (they do show up in Ahrefs, about 50 root domains). To my surprise, I only have 15 Domain Authority. This is the most evident example, take a look at this screenshot: http://imgur.com/dFk2rkx My website is on the far left, two of my competitors on the right. As you can see I win every category except total links and the most important, domain authority. Are total links that important for Domain authority, even if 99% are internal? By the way, I also have more posts than these guys, I don't know why the report says otherwise. Why is the site on the right ranking so high? The same thing happens with the rest of my competitors, they have a lot of low quality links from "lists of domain sites" and in general a lot of very spammy links. According to what I have been reading, my good quality links should be more helpful than my competitors' spammy links, which should in fact affect them. So what is going on? I have no idea if I'm doing things right. Why is my domain authority so low? Thanks for your help. dFk2rkx

Question about links on blogs
I have a number of blogs, but I'll use this one as an example: http://www.totalpackers.com/. If you look in the left column, we have "friends" links and "more Packers" links. In every case, these were links that we traded or links to our own sites. We get traffic from a number of these sites because of the link exchange, but I'm worried having these is hurting our SEO (as well these sites posting our links). It's crossed my mind that I should remove all these links from our site and ask that our links be removed from their sites. Would that be overreacting? Or is this something I should do? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Monty

Photography Site ranking!
Hi I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing) Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too. However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings. So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website? I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea? If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer" Thanks

Getting Many Links from Tumbler Question?
If I have 10 links coming from 10 Tumbler blogs.. Do they count as 10 linking domains or 1 linking domain coming from tumbler.com? Does the authority of links coming from tumbler decrease the more I get links from tumbler blogs? Thanks
