When is it time to buy a $100+ paid directory listing?
-
I have been working on a site for 11 months, everything is looking great. Apart from a small amount of highly important keywords which rank #2 to #5. 1. How will I know if I need to invest in a paid directory? 2. Will one listing be enough to make a difference? I am looking at a listing at BOTW.org. Other recommendations welcome.

Thank you very much, did not know that list existed.
-
Good point. I am around the 100 current backlinks range, but they include many blog links. I think I need more diversity.
-
If this is a site that is just starting out I would invest in the listing. It could help get you off to a faster start.
However, if this is an established site with thousands of quality links already then I don't think that this one link will make much of a difference.
Just how I would view it for my own sites.

I'd say it's only time to buy it if $100+ isn't much money to you. This list gives a good indication of which directories are worth being on: http://www.seomoz.org/directories

Yeah I agree. Yahoo was my other option but at $300 I get afford it.

I can definately understand the need to invest. Have considered it on several occations myself, but haven't done it yet. Somewhat because of the cost, but mostly because i have no idea which of the paid sites that are actually worth paying for. Would be nice with a list of the sites that are actually worth the money so you can avoid the useless ones.
-
Thanx for the reply. I agree free should be the way. But my niche has a Blackhat SEO ranking well, so if I want to compete I need to invest. (I have reported the site over 11months ago and still nothing from Google).

BOTW.org is a no brainer. These links do help to rank a little better, at least they do for me. Another one I should go for is Yahoo Dir. Both aren't cheap, but will help. Nevertheless, you will also need other kinds of links to maintain your positions, especially when your niche becomes more competitive. I would advice you to stay clear from cheap directory submissions, as these won't make much of a difference, if at all.

1: You never "need" to invest in a paid directory, just consider the price vs the returns. Personally i never pay for listings or links. I believe that the free services should be more than enough.
2: One listing on a high-ranking directory will ofcourse give you a small boost, but i'd assume that you would need a few listings to notice any permanent change in your ranking.

Where can I get a list of broken links to my client's website?
I have a client who owns a website that attracted a large number of links to internal pages of their sites. Without realising the value of those links, they removed every page of their website other than the home pages that now reads, "new website coming soon". How can I get a list of every website still linking to the (now broken) internal pages of their site?

Root domain or subdomain when submitting to directories, also pr 3 and lower, is it bad to list to these directories?
Hello all, Should I use my root domain or sub domain when adding my site to local directories? I'm very new to this, so I just want to be sure, sub domains start with the www, right? I know all my listings should have the same NAP, and it makes sense to have the same root or sub domain listed as well, but I was wondering if I should try and help one type of domain if it starts to get a bad ratio of follow & no follow links. Also, do directories with a page rank of 3 or lower, or directories with a no follow link, bad for my sites rankings?

SEO directories
Recently I did a research of one of mine competitors and to my surprise his major backlinks located on seo directories like: http://alistdirectory.com/ http://www.ggfb.org/ http://www.bitterskank.com/ http://www.directorypage.net/ And .... he is showing on first page of Google by particular keyword "Dentist Dubai". Frankly speaking I am confused a little bit, because I believe that this SEO strategy has stopped working a long time ago. Could someone share with me his thought about this? Furthermore all of those websites are asking about a Reciprocal link, which I did find on his website. How he did it? Thanks, Russel

In the Yahoo link directory you can submit paid or free, which do you use?
Has anyone here had any luck getting Yahoo to pickup links submitted through the free option? How long does this generally take? Or do you usually just pay the $300/year on your clients behalf? Or do you get your client to cover it? I couldn't direct link the page because you have to in a directory when you hit submit, but it looks like this screen shot: www.glitchhopforum.com/images/yahoo.png

Yahoo Directory Link Question
Recently two of my clients purchased a listing in the Yahoo Directory, but they don't show up in the SEOmoz campaign analysis. Is there a reason why?
