Pages not indexed by Google
-
We recently deleted all the nofollow values on our website. (2 weeks ago)
The number of pages indexed by google is the same as before?
Do you have explanations for this?

Good advice from Andrea and Brent.
To use multiple sitemaps, do something like this:
The main sitemap points to the other sitemap files.
You can have up to 50,000 URLs in those files.
- mine are gzipped
This one is sitemap_index.xml
<sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"><sitemap><loc>http://yourdomain.com/writermap.xml.gz</loc>
<lastmod>2012-03-15</lastmod></sitemap>
<sitemap><loc>http://yourdomain.com/mainmap.xml.gz</loc>
<lastmod>2012-03-15</lastmod></sitemap>
<sitemap><loc>http://yourdomain.com/201201.xml.gz</loc>
<lastmod>2012-03-15</lastmod></sitemap></sitemapindex><sitemap><loc>http://yourdomain.com/201202.xml.gz</loc>
<lastmod>2012-03-15</lastmod></sitemap>Here is a tip:
Google will index some of those pages and some it will not index.
If you have 5,000 urls in one sitemap and they only index 4957
you probably can't work out which 43 URLs they didn't index,
so if you make the numbers smaller, it can be easier to discover the pages they don't like.
- not easy, but easier

Well, there's a lot of ways to look at this - this wouldn't result in more pages indexed, so the two issues are totally separate.
If the goal is to get more pages indexed, then a site map (either XML or event a text list) uploaded to your server for Google to find can help. Or, at least that makes sure that Google is finding and indexing the pages you want them to find. Your Google Webmaster Tools account (assuming you have one) will also tell you some data.
For example, we used to have 100K+ pages; many weren't quality content I wanted to rank. Like, a PDF of a catalog ranking about the product page. So, I reduced the number of pages indexed so Google would have better, more quality content to serve to searchers.
Using Xenu or Screaming Frog is another good way to help uncover pages. Those tools crawl your site like Google would, then you can download the file and not only see all the URLs found, but also if they are 301/404/200, etc. And, Screaming Frog can crawl your site and output a XML sitemap for you (it's an easier way to make one).
I prefer SF and it's about $150 US dollars for the use - well worth it.
As for why - well, if you have a lot of pages, Google doesn't always find them. That's where a site map can help (it directs Google what to crawl). Otherwise, there could be technical issues to a bunch of pages and they aren't properly linked up or something and that could be causing the issue.

So according to you, it's normal if we dont have more pages indexed by Google, since we have deleted the nofollow values?
Google actually index 28,200 pages, but i'm sure we have more pages on site.
From where, could come the problem?
Thanks

Do you have XML sitemaps? If not this is a great way to measure what is being indexed by Google. Make sure you create multiple sitemaps based on your categories so you can track exactly which pages are not being indexed.

'No follow' isn't the same as a 'no index' code. No follow just tells the search engine it "should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index." 'No index' is where you tell the crawler to not index the pages, then you can remove that if you at some future point want them indexed.
So, in theory, what you did wouldn't have anything to do with how many pages are indexed on your site anyway.

Blog Page Titles - Page 1, Page 2 etc.
Hi All, I have a couple of crawl errors coming up in MOZ that I am trying to fix. They are duplicate page title issues with my blog area. For example we have a URL of www.ourwebsite.com/blog/page/1 and as we have quite a few blog posts they get put onto another page, example www.ourwebsite.com/blog/page/2 both of these urls have the same heading, title, meta description etc. I was just wondering if this was an actual SEO problem or not and if there is a way to fix it. I am using Wordpress for reference but I can't see anywhere to access the settings of these pages. Thanks

Delete indexed spam pages
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone had this same situation, or may know of a solution. One of our sites was recently pharmahacked 😞 We found an entire pharmaceutical site in one of the folder of our site. We were able to delete it, but now Google is showing us on not found error for those pages we deleted. First, I guess the question is will this harm us? If so, anyway we can fix this? Obliviously we don't want to do a 303 redirect for spam pages. Thanks!

How do I influence what page on my site google shows for specific search phrases?
Hi People, My client has a site www.activeadventures.com. They provide adventure tours of New Zealand, South America and the Himalayas. These destinations are split into 3 folders in the site (eg: activeadventures.com/new-zealand, activeadventures.com/south-america etc....). The actual root folder of the site is generic information for all of the destinations whilst the destination specific folders are specific in their information for the destination in question. The Problem: If you search for say "Active New Zealand" or "Adventure Tours South America" our result that comes up is the activeadventures.com homepage rather than the destination folder homepage (eg: We would want activeadventures.com/new-zealand to be the landing page for people searching for "active new zealand"). Are there any ways in influence google as to what page on our site it chooses to serve up? Many thanks in advance. Conrad

How do I keep Google from crawling my PPC landing page?
Question, I don't want Google to catch my PPC landing pages, but I'm wondering if I make the page no-follow, no-index will it still crawl my landing page for quality score? Just to clarify I do want it to crawl the landing page to boost my quality score on PPC, but I do not want it to index it for SEO. Thanks 🙂

Is it bad to have your pages as .php pages?
Hello everyone, Is it bad to have your website pages indexed as .php? For example, the contact page is site.com/contact.php and not /contact. Does this affect your SEO rankings in any way? Is it better to have your pages without the extension? Also, if I'm working with a news site and the urls are dynamic for every article (ie site.com/articleid=2323.) Should I change all of those dynamic urls to static? Thank You.

2 links on home page to each category page ..... is page rank being watered down?
I am working on a site that has a home page containing 2 links to each category page. One of the links is a text link and one link is an image link. I think I'm right in thinking that Google will only pay attention to the anchor text/alt text of the first link that it spiders with the anchor text/alt text of the second being ignored. This is not my question however. My question is about the page rank that is passed to each category page..... Because of the double links on the home page, my reckoning is that PR is being divided up twice as many times as necessary. Am I also right in thinking that if Google ignore the 2nd identical link on a page only one lot of this divided up PR will be passed to each category page rather than 2 lots ..... hence horribly watering down the 'link juice' that is being passed to each category page?? Please help me win this argument with a developer and improve the ranking potential of the category pages on the site 🙂

Continued Lack of Google Indexing
I run a baseball site (http://www.mopupduty.com) that is in a very good link neighbourhood. ESPN, The Score, USA Today, MSG Network, The Toronto Star, Baseball Prospectucs, etc etc. New content has not been getting indexed on Google ever since the last update. Site has no dup content, 100% original. I can't think of any spammy links, we get organic links day after day. In the past Google has indexed the site in minutes. It currently has expanded site links within Google search. Bing & Yahoo index the site in minutes. Are there any quick fixes I can make to increase my chance to get indexed by Google. Or just keep pumping out content and hope to see a change in the upcoming future?
