Google recipe search...
-
I just did a search for a recipe and saw something new.
Google has a sidebar that lets you toggle on/off ingredients...
Pretty nifty, and interesting.
I did not have the recipe toggle marked, I was just using regular search "everything"

I believe last summer Google, Yahoo and Bing all agreed to support microdata - which is part of the HTML5 specifications (correct me if I am wrong). The specifications are at http://schema.org
For recipes there is a specific schema http://schema.org/Recipe This will produce the rich snippets that you witnessed. You can test out your recipes etc for rich snippets by using the Google Webmaster Tools Rich Snippets Tester at http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets
Supposedly there are three types of formats that will produce rich snippets; microformats (hCard etc ..), micordata and RDF. I can tell you from experience that it does work (not for all schemas) and works quickly.
It has been my experience that the plugins for Wordpress for producing rich snippets are a bit clumsy and most seem to use the microformats instead of the microdata.
I would recommend using the microdata, one because it is supported by the major search engines and two it is part of the HTML5 specifications
I do not believe that having the microdata encode on your web helps with rankings, but I can say that it can dramatically increase your CTRs.

Yes, that happened almost a year go.. See http://microformats.org/2011/02/24/google-launches-microformat-powered-recipe-search It's pretty neat and works great. Very user-friendly. And since it's done using microformats / recipe schema, it's pretty easy to implement. There are tons of Wordpress plugins that let you do that.

I Got A Scraper Delisted From Google ...
I have an electronics niche news website. A scraper who had an online store selling products in my niche copied every one of my articles and posted them on his site under the heading "News" ... generally within 1/2 hour of me posting them on my site. His site was even showing up in the rankings before mine. I filed a copyright infringement claim with Google two weeks ago via their online form explaining what he was doing. Today, I received an email from Google saying that they have reviewed his site and have delisted it from the search engine. I just checked, and he is GONE ... completely delisted, no trace. My site traffic has also jumped at least 25% today. It pays to complain! Just sharing 😉

Keywords and Getting Started with them to the top of the Search Engines
We are an online Saas Based startup. Strongly 70% of our daily users come directly to us since they know us by the url . Now there these 30% who scout for software's like ours online. Get to us by some hook or crook and then maybe end up giving the trial a shot. Our Main site is only of say 5-6 pages. These pages have basic info about our product , pricing and contact etc. What I wish to understand is that when one says" getting those keywords to the top of the engines rankings" who do you mean by these - I presume one means that get the keywords you want to compete for and then push in "Adwords" or better content pages? So If I want to rank well - then my websites should have good content pages you mean? Is that correct-? That means now I have to write good content on those keywords or around those keywords- without that there is no hope to come on good on engines right? Correct me here if I sway away from the actual meaning. Next I wish to have campaigns setup in google adwords keeping in mind those competitive keywords - here again does content on my website play a role? If I have no content and then have google adwords setup does that help? Please advice How long before I add good content pages and expect them to show up in my analytics etc? Thanks

Linkdomain google searches
I am watching a SEOmoz webinar: Future of Link Building. At 13 minutes into the move an example search is shown where the search term is linkdomain:seomoz.org -seomoz. Rand explains this search will show the results of all pages which mention seomoz.org but do not offer a followed link. I tried that search for one of my sites: linkdomain:www.terapvp.com -terapvp. It doesn't work at all. It shows a list of sites discussing "tera pvp", none of which have links to me at all. That leads to two questions: how does the linkdomain: query work? how would I ask Google to show a results page of sites with nofollow links and/or citations to my site?
