Advice needed

Hi Guys,
We are trying to increase our rankings for the term "natural beauty products" for our home page....
I have created an article all about natural beauty products with the url as...
domain/natural-beauty-products.html
what I am worried about is this... because this page has more information all about the key word phrase & the url is the keyword phrase, will it out do my root domain ranking?
I created the page to try and give the home page some weight for that key phrase, now I am wondering if I should have had the url as something like "why we love natural beauty products"
then in that page included the keyword phrase link back to the home page!
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks
Daniel

Hi,
We do have a blog, I just tried the link and it worked fine?
The only link is from the about us menu. Is that ok?
-
In the footer your got a link going to blog, this is a broken link, remove it until there is actually a blog for it to go to.
Do you have a link on your site somewhere leading to that article you wrote?
-
Thanks for the advice, I have now changed the page title to match my H1 tag
-
They have created a inner page, optimised for the keyword they are going after on the homepage, so title tag, url, h1, content on article page all optimised towards "natural beauty products".
Then running an anchor text link out of the content to the root.
-
Thanks for the reply, I need to get some call to action on the page... Maybe a "click here to shop for natural beauty products" ?
Cheers
Daniel

When writing articles you are always get strong article pages that come up before your home page on curtain terms. If it is a major topic as you have mentioned then just make sure you link to your home page and also make sure the home page contains the main topic keyword. You must make sure that all your article pages have very strong and clear call-to-actions otherwise it defeats the point of them ranking well and acting like valuable entry pages (which they should)
-
Ok,
I cant see it out ranking your homepage to be honest, maybe change your title tag to 'Why we Love Natural Beauty Products' so it fits in with your h1 tag.
-
yes we do
-
Do you have any anchor text links in the body of the article going back to the root?

Need Expert Footer Link Advice
We have a sister company that provides online administrative services to .EDUs. The administrative site has thousands of pages, with good pagerank, excellent trust, and a clean bill of health from Google, as does our corporate site. We have the ability to put footer links on every page back to our corporate website. Options: 1. Do nothing for fear of getting penalized by Google 2. Footer Link: Web Design by Logo, with "Web Design" being the anchor text. 3. Footer Link: Web Design by XYZ with "Web Design" and "XYZ" being the anchor text for link diversity. 4. Footer Link: Web Design by Logo with "Web Design" and the Logo (Alt Text "XYZ Corp") being anchors for link diversity. 5. Put up a page (or 2) about web design on the administrative site, have all of the footers link to that page, and have that page link back to our corporate site. We really aren't doing anything wrong here, but both sites have a clean bill of health and the Google spam police have me paranoid. Our corporate site has an excellent link profile with hundreds of links from .gov, .us, and .edu. The links have commercial value, and can drive traffic to our site. Looking for your thoughts before we make a move.

Drowning In a Sea of Link Building Advice
You can visit one SEO forum after the other and 50% of the folks will say 'do this' and the other half will say to do something else. It's always black hat vs white hat and then you still get the grey hat in between. So what does really work? Leon

Frequently tempted by the dark side - need reassurance!
I'm a DIY seo with a video production company - our website has been given some solid foundations by an SEO friend and we are climbing nicely up the rankings.. Everyone and their dog constantly warns of not straying into black hat - and I totally understand and appreciate the reasonings.. my issue is - pretty much ALL of the competitors use what I would perceive to be pretty shady web directories. These directories seem to account for 80% of each of my competitors inbound links (according to open site explorer) If all the front page of google for "corporate video" are submitting to all these directories - should I? Cheers AC

Advice for brand new site
Dear All I have been an SEO for several years now, and have just laucnhed a new site www.householdsaver.co.uk its in its early stages as I expect to add a community option where people post deals and offers they have found, share them with friends etc My question is really are all the old seo practices still worth doing? Things like directory sites, blog comments, articles sites, social bookmarking etc.... (I have already built up twitter users on the account before the site went live) With Moz's trust factor is it best to go for highrank trust sites first or... I guess you could say that I am suffering from what do I do first and is it all still worth doing and what are the early pit falls to think about..? ie too many links too soon and from to high or to low trusted sites? Any comments from anyone who have put a new site live in the past couple of years would be appricated. Thanks James

Timing of Adding Links -- Guidance Needed
We have entered into a partnership with one of our sister companies that owns many different small newspapers and their associated websites -- they have agreed to show some of our content on their site along with providing links back to our website. There are 50+ of these websites that we will be getting links from. Does it matter to Google how quickly we add these links to these sites? They are all very legitimate links with unique content provided. We just didn’t know if Google would view it negatively if we added a bunch at one time. Any guidance on the timing of how links are added would be most valuable. Thank-you.
