Do I need canonical link on target page?
-
I've placed in my head tag on duplicate content pages, but do i need to place it on the target page such as http://www.example.com/index.html too?
-
It's not instantaneous, but yes, you should see that number drop over time.
-
After implementing my canonical links, I should see my duplicate page warnings go down in the Errors section of Crawl Diagnostics correct? SEOMOZ parses these correct?
-
Ah yes, I could have been more clear with this. Thanks for the help.
-
I'm a little confused, because you gave different URLs for the target of your canonical tag and your "target page", so I just want to make sure we're referring to the same thing here. You don't typically need a canonical tag on the canonical version of the URL. Technically, you shouldn't put one there (Bing has specifically said they don't want that, but Google has eased up on it), but practically, I've rarely seen it cause any problems.
In other words, I wouldn't lose sleep over it
Just make sure that the "target page" doesn't actually represent multiple URLs. I've seen some people get confused on that. Typically, having a canonical tag on your home-page can help sweep up variants you might not think about, so I think it can make sense to have one, even on the target. In most cases, though, it's not necessary.
-
Yes you should if you are not using 301 redirection for "non www" with "www" domain.
-
Nope, not as far as I know. Just add the tag in the head of the non-canonical URLs:
This is from Google's Webmaster Tools Support section:
If you want http://www.example.com/dresses/greendress.html to
be the canonical URL for your listing, you can indicate this to search
engines by adding a element with the attribute
rel="canonical"
_ to the section of the non-canonical pages. To do this, create a_
link as follows:
_```
href="http://www.example.com/dresses/greendress.html">_Add this extra information to the section of non-canonical URLs._
http://example.com/dresses/greendress.html?gclid=ABCDh
_This tells Google that these URLs all refer to the canonical page at **http://www.example.com/dresses/greendress.html**. _ _**Note**: We recommend __using a link with the attribute `rel="canonical"` to_ _indicate your preferred __URL, but we can't guarantee to follow that preference_ _in all cases._ _[More information about rel="canonical".](http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=139394)_ Hope this helps. Thanks, Anthony_

Will Google Count Links Loaded from JavaScript Files After the Page Loads
Hi, I have a simple question. If I want to put an image with a link to another site like a banner ad on my page, but do not want it counted by Google. Can I simply load the link and banner using jQuery onload from a separate .js file? The ideal result would be for Google to index a script tag instead of a link.

More Singular KW Targeted Landing Pages vs. Less Multiple KW Targeted Landing Pages
So my question is... I have a adopted a site which currently ranks quite well for some industry competitive keywords with a number of poor quality landing pages which specifically target a singular keyword. I am wondering if its worth merging some of these pages together into one authoritative, better quality landing page targeting multiple keywords (as the intent for some of these keywords are largely the same). What i don't want to do is jeopardise the existing rankings in doing so. The alternative option would just be to improve the content on the existing landing pages without merging. What are peoples thoughts on this? Are there any positive case studies out there where merging has had a positive effect? Any help would be great. Regards,

Should I add canonical links to pages that are redirected?
Hello! I am a little confused concerning canonical links. I have several URLs that all access my page, but I redirect them all. A lot of places I am told to redirect them or use canonicals. Other places, I read that I should always use canonicals. What is the right way for me? If I should use canonicals as well as redirects, which links should I do this on? I redirect my pages like this: http to https:

Page Speed
Google recommends a page load speed of 1.4 seconds, is it recommended to have that page speed for every page on the site, or just the landing pages. Is there a tool that will check the load speed of every page on a site and report the slow pages? The free online tools only check one page at a time.

On-Page Report Card: Whats up with the TITLE of the page?
Started to fix the SEO issues on a customers website. When I run a "On-Page Report Card" It says that the title of the webpage:

www.visbymaklarna.se/visbymaklarna.html Is "visbymäklarna - Ditt förstahandsval på gotland." But if I check in the source code of the webbrowser the title should be:
name="title" content="Vi är mäklarna på Gotland som sätter människan i första rummet" /> (Actually this is with special encoding for the swedish characters. The title in coded text is: "Vi är mäklarna på Gotland som sätter människan i första rummet") Anyway the title of the webpage source code and the title of what SEOmoz reports is different. Why is that?0 -
Too many on-page links
Hi, My website - www.thepartyhouse.com.au is showing as having too many on-page links for over 4,000 pages. Take for example the homepage which is showing as 188 links, but I don't understand this because I've used SEO tools to display the links and I am showing around 90 links on this page. How can I see what all the links are? Thanks

Hi, How much of an SEO issue is it to have relative links vs. fully written out links, like http://www.seolinkquestion.com/my-silly-question ? If I have a site that uses relative links, should I change them all? Thanks...Mike
