Inbound links from different subject websites

I have question regarding inbound links from different subject websites. We are selling home decor products on our website and getting links from different subject websites.
I want to give more idea about it.
I love cooking and write articles on recipes... My article will live on following website with my signature and signature will contain links to my website.
So, will it help to my website or not?

I don't know that it will help your site or not, but it should not hurt it. All recipes is not a poor site in the black hat sense, etc. It does have some serious ads going on but not totally over the top.
Whether it helps will depend on what page you are linking from and how good your content is. If your page rank on recipe site grows as the result of your recipe or someone else's, it should help by sending a bit of juice to your site. How much help will depend on number of other links from that site. Where the link is in the content and on the page, anchor text, etc.

Footer Links And Link Juice
I'm starting to learn about link juice and notice in GWMT > Traffic > Internal Links, that the list is in this order by the links counted on each page. Some are in the footer and some are in the header, with some being more important than others commercially i.e. /register /privacy /terms /search /sitemap /disclaimer /blog /register So I am wondering if I should add a 'no-follow' attribute to the footer links i.e. privacy, terms, disclaimer and leave the others as they are? Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.
I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. What to do with some good links I have?
I have some pretty strong links from relevant sources linking to the homepage of a site I deal with. The links are usually from a PR3-5 pages and display specific result about the linking site. Sometimes they come from badges. We offer several services, so sometimes the page is about one service and next time about the other. Currently all of my pages link to the homepage. Would it not be better to link to the specific product page related to the page I have? Also I can do a canonical to the service pages? Which would be best?

Tracking new inbound links
I suspect there might be an easy way to do this.. but alas Icould not seem to find it with by performing some search queries in the Q and A thus figured I would just ask :).. sorry if being repetitive with this question. I have all sorts of tools to track the number of overall inbound links to my site, but is there an easy tool to check for specific new inbound links from one specific page/site..aka if I set up a link in a directory or I get a mention in an article.. what is the easiest way to search to see if this link has been picked up by google and how much link juice it might be giving to my site? Article Links
I write and publish artcles. Typically I publish them on a few top article sites like EZineArticles. The articles then get picked up by other sites, often numbering in the hundreds. All of the articles are published with a link back to our website using a keyword. Are there any SEO risks in this type of link proliferation?
