Give me your SEO Review

Hi Mozzers,
I've been working on redesigning and revamping this site, http://www.canvaspaintings.com.
Their domain and keyword are a match but not ranking #1.
Some initial things I feel that needs to be changed are the links on the side and top bar, viewing the on page report, it does have a lot of links on every page. Trying to figure out how to remove them without having the top nav look empty.
Previous category descriptions were written by possibly an article spinner or keyword stuffed writer.
Need to start building more links, although PR5, it doesn't rank too well.
Let me know your opinions and thoughts, I would love to hear them out.
TMI!

Yep, I've been brought on the help out a bit. The internal links are excessive but hard to manage since it is an ecommerce site. I have to draw out something for the linking of categories.
Traffic is roughly 200-300 visits but pageviews are about 5-6 per visit.
Keywords are all general but mainly the domain matching keyword. Rankings have fluctuated some moved up and some moved down. As mentioned our current ranking for our own domain is 3rd.

Thanks for the input! Where do you think we should put some H2, H3 tags? We've been using the H1 as an alt= on the logo so its within the code.

Hi William,
It looks like you have A LOT of out bound links (internal) from the home page. That can dilute the PR vaule of that page since you are spreading out your link juice to a ton of interal pages.
What kind of weekly or monthly traffic are you getting right now? Has it increased or decreased over the last 6 months?
What Keyword(s) are you targeting and where do you currently rank for those? Have the rankings gone up or down?

Hi William,
I think the linking on the page could do with some improvement.
The first thing I would do is remove the 'www.canvaspaintings.com' link from the header & footer as there is no need for them. And, like you said, maybe a bit of improvement to the navigation links.
As well as this, I would look at using h1,h2,h3, etc tags a bit more effectively as this can make a big difference.
Hope these quick tips helps slightly.
Matt.

True or False? Having your phone number in the header of your nav bar is good for SEO?
I have been told by a a few different SEO and Marketing Agency friends that by putting your address and phone number in the top section of your navbar is great for SEO. Does this myth have any merit or is it just misguided? Tksac28

Would a free PDF download diminish SEO benefits of HTML content?
Dear readers, This post is a duplicate of one I just put up. Sorry about that. If you are interested in commenting or seeing other responses, please go to http://moz.com/community/q/would-a-free-pdf-download-diminish-seo-benefits-of-html-content. Thanks. Hello, I am doing SEO for a company that, as a sideline business, sells four books written by the principals; the content is directly relevant to the company's primary business focus. Book sales are a tiny fraction of our overall revenue, and we don't expect that to change, although we will continue to sell the books. In addition to selling them, we have decided to convert the books to HTML and post them for free on our website (laid out by chapter and section). The hope is that this will result in goodwill, links, traffic, and ultimately improved search rankings. My question: Would offering free PDF downloads of the books (in addition to posting the HTML content) diminish the SEO benefits of the HTML content? If we don't offer the PDF option, people would have to visit our site to read the content (unless they bought a hard copy). If visitors were able to download a free PDF, they wouldn't need to return to our site to read it. If our corporate clients (nearly all of our clients are corporations) could download a PDF, they could then post it on an intranet instead of posting a link to our site. In general, do you think a visitor would be less likely to link to our site if he or she were able to download the PDF? Or would the appeal of the PDF option make it more likely that people would visit and link to the site? Also, if we offer the PDF option, are there any SEO issues related to duplicate content? Finally, if we did offer the free PDF download, would you recommend that we ask for an email address before giving the PDF? Thank you very much!

SEO for New Magento Site??!?
Hi All, We have had a new site delivered by our developers (hurrah...the old one was to terrible for words) but we seem to be having a lot of issues with the new Magento platform. What they have done is used the community version and tried to customize it. I came on to this project about a month into the build and although Magento does seem to do a lot things well there do seem to be some problems. From an SEO prespective we have seen some increase on some search terms and a drop of in others. I would be interested in hearing from other Magento users about their experiences with this platform and any ideas on how to crank up the activity. Our site is at www.nationwidepharmacies.co.uk . There are few odd bits including the side navigation which seems to be very clunky and not overly customizable in this version. Any useful criticism would also be well received. Look forward to hearing Nic

Do you ever forget the SEO basics?
We all get a little sloppy at times. Just yesterday , someone pointed out that I accidentally blocked the robots from one of our primary pages, because it was being included in a wildcard match on one of the disallow commands in robots.txt. Sometimes the mistakes are very basic. The one below is just too funny. I thought I would share the love. Search Google for "MD care" MD Care Inc. - Welcome<a id="LXPLSS_979677678U1"></a> <cite>www.mdcarehealthplan.com/</cite> This is an SEO description that will be seen by the search engines and used in the search results. The meta keywords tag is even funnier: <meta name="keywords" content="spam, the, keywords, here, like, this, and this, good" />
