Is bold text anchor link worth the higher price tag in directory listing?
-
Does it make a difference with Google if anchor link text is bold?
The niche directory is offering regular lifetime listing for $199 (actual page pr 6) or
bold for $349 (same page, same position). Also bold link has option of including email address.
Does email address have any effect on SEO?
Seems like a bad deal for bold, isn't it?

Really don't think that having your directory entry in bold is really going going to make much/any difference and it seems like a high price to pay for the privilege.
But, it depends on how much direct traffic the directory might send your site. If it's a respected niche directory that is actually used by real people then there may be some benefit. if putting your entry in bold increases the click-through. How many other entries are in bold?
Personally, I'd be sceptical that there would much value here either. (I'm not an advocate of paid directory listings in general)
Might be fun to ask the directory owners to provide some click-through statistics before you part with your cash!
Also think about what else you can do with the money (the opportunity cost). Could you use the money to create some great unique content? How many links would such a piece of content need to get you before you got a better return on investment than a directory listing?
Hope this helps.

Anchor Text - How many and what do with our old posts
Hello, I have a two larger established websites that achieve over 1000 unique views a day. The sites have done well but we have always had problem with SEO. The vast majority of traffic is from our social media accounts -- we rank low on the SERP - below competitive pages that have less updates and much lower traffic. When I set the sites up I misunderstood a number of key issues but with over 4500 posts and 600 pages it has takes a huge amount of time to change things. I have now realised another issue -- we did not use Anchor Text to link to provide internal links to our keywords on our site. We are now adding them. My question is two fold: How many internal links should we add? From what I read on Moz - 5 to 6 internal links should be the right number. Comments? 2) We have numerous posts ie over 4000 that go back over 4 years. Should I change them all at once or will this flag a spam issue with Google? Believe me after years of problems I do not want another set back. Suggestions and advice would be welcome. Thanks

Indirect Link Earning via dofollow Links In News Articles
Hello, MOZ SEO Gurus. I've been trying to think some deep thoughts on safe, effective link earning for news publishing sites, and wanted to run this up the flagpole and see if you salute. Our site is a biotech news service -- we pump out copious amounts of news content each day, which works well for driving traffic. That being said, we also want to rank some optimized landing pages as well. Take, for example, this page, which we'd like to rank for "secondary progressive MS" and related keywords: http://bionews-tx.com/secondary-progressive-ms/ Now, as far as I'm concerned, shopping this page around to MS influencers isn't easy. I can go to Foundational websites, blogs, etc., and say, "hey, we have this info page on SPMS, and I thought that you might find it helpful/want to link to it." But chances are, the MS influencers already have their own proprietary content on SPMS, and there isn't much value to linking to it. Therefore, I think that we'll get few link earning conversions on the effort. However, what if I take our Secondary Progressive MS landing page, and I link to it in a corresponding article about SPMS research, as I did here: http://bionews-tx.com/news/2014/01/30/secondary-progressive-ms-natalizumab-clinical-trial/ Then, I go to the drug developer who is at the center of this story and say to them, "hey, we recently covered your drug in the news, and I thought you might want to link to it." Then, we get a link from an MS drug developer to the news article, which in turn has a prominent anchor text, dofollow internal link to the landing page for SPMS. If the link from the drug developer is dofollow, then we flow page rank juice from the drug developer page to our news page to our landing page. To me, it's much easier to earn safe links this way than to try and shop the landing page itself. That being said, if we get a dofollow link on the news piece, we only get a diminished portion of page rank going to the landing page. Is this strategy viable? Is the indirect flow of page rank from a linking site to a news article to a landing page even worth it? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Should I request backlinks to use anchor text that is page specific?
I work for a community college, with fairly high seo for the college in general. We have no budget for advertising specific programs, so we are trying to optimize individual pages on the website, e.g., physical therapy assistant, welding, etc. Does it make a difference if other websites use our main url, college name, or the college name plus specific program as the anchor text? Also, I'm seeing some posts here recommending to avoid lots of directory listings. I assume that doesn't apply to industry specific directories, like nursing school directories, right? I'm still a very new newbie and appreciate your advice.

I have a client with several businesses within the same industry - Each of these businesses have their own websites. So, I have a few questions with this in mnd: **When using anchor text (exact keyword phrases) on his website pages, how many links are safe to use per page? And if I want to interlink between his businesses, is it better to use exact keyword phrases to link or just a straight URL link for those other businesses? **When guest blogging or using an external blog of our creation, is it best to use exact keyword phrases (and how many) or URL links? Link Bait - Directory Style Resources Page
Hello Mozzers! Basically I want to add a beefed up "resources" page (directory style) to my site to attract in bound links. Below is an example of a site that has a similar directory style resources area. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters.html I was thinking that it might be good to add a resource box in my site footer with links to these resource pages such as: 1) Dog breeder resources
Link Building | | k9byron
2) Dog training resource
3) Dog shelters/kennels
4) Pet health resources
5) Pet care resources And funnel links to my category pages from there .. I was looking for some feedback or any tips or the best way to go about doing this and if anyone knew of a SE friendly script or something that that I might be able to integrate with my site (x-cart / PHP) platform that would make it easy to populate / update, ect Below is a paste of how one person I talked to envisions it: I'd suggest building some pages of value, such as dog resources pages (rescue groups & resources, etc.), adoption resources, etc. I'd guarantee if the resources were very comprehensive and built correctly, you'd get more bang for the buck versus throwing hundreds (or even thousands) away on sub-par links. Case:
http://www.tnj.com/black-history-makers/major-inventions-african-americans (a simple test content page to show this client we could build lifetime links with a few hours of work for a decent-sized resource page) Although very ugly, this is more of a gold mine for links taking the example above:
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/inventors/black.shtml This is just one simple example but I hope you get the concept versus ongoing payments for junk links. The more links you get to internal pages - even the resource guide pages - the more opportunity to link back to core product pages contextually or within the content portion of the page of side columns. The goal is to create funneled links from these resource pages back to your other pages, but doing it in a manner that's not outlandish or spammy in nature.0 -
Panda Update: Isn't a link still a link?
I was doing some link building and some SEO's said that the Panda update affected many websites. I am going to use eZineArticles.com as my example. EzineArticles was affected by the Panda update and does not show up in the SERPs as much as before. But they still have doFollow Links coming from the articles I am submitting. QUESTION: Regardless if EzineArticles was affected by the Panda Update, isn't a "Follow Link" still a "Follow Link" OR am I completely wasting my time on this devalued website? Edit: Yes I know a PR 0 page is not as valuable as a PR 9 page. I am asking from the standpoint of the affected Panda Update domains overall.
