What Does Vary Anchor Text 80/20 Ration Mean - Have Idea But Only A Guess
If my anchor text is New York Real Estate - then it should vary using other words so what percentage should each page own anchor text vary ?
Is it 80% anchor text and 20% non - anchor text
EXAMPLE:
80%
NEW YORK REAL ESTATE20%
XYC COMPANY
BUY A HOUSE
SELL A HOUSE
CLICK HERE -

James...you lost me -- are you saying that 40% should be the primary main keyword anchor text used to point to page then the other 60% is for varying the link with long tail phrases or other terms so that the remaining 60% different terms are being used to so that is does not like manipulation by SE's ?

I think 80% is too high,
to be honest aim for around 40% imo or a range around their with emphasis on the brand term.
But you can also mix up variations of your main keyword for example:
* NEW YORK REAL ESTATE
* REAL ESTATE in New York
- Best NEW YORK REAL ESTATE
And so on to target other long tail keywords because I bet the main head term has high competition.

Good idea? bad idea?
Hi guys there's a campaign (which I am very passionate about) to save our village pub from being developed. Now I have bought a domain name www dot SaveTheRoyalOak dot com I've forwarded this domain to sussexchef.com/save-the-royal-oak I'm using forward masking so the url remains save the royal oak, I will contain the few pages to do with the pub so that the navigation bars are hidden so the site will pretty much look be it's own entity to the user. this micro site will get hundreds of users and people linking to it, My question is will this hurt my site at all? I'm guessing that when I ask people to link to it I should get them to "no follow" it to be on the safe side? Thanks for your help All the best Ben

Site received penalty, Traffic restricted to 3-4 visits/hour
Dear all We received a penalty notice at webmaster tools 2 months ago, in that stated "your pages violate our quality guidelines" and "contain some inorganic links to your site". Ours is a Coupon website and tried to follow all quality guidelines given in webmaster central. Also we tried to identify and remove spam kind of links and still we are working on that. Suddenly from yesterday website traffic restricted to 3-4 visits/hour, but website main keyword SERPs are not changed much and still ranking at good positions. my question if any website is under manual penalty, it's traffic will be restricted by Google???. Every link we build manually and not gone for any paid links or reciprocal links. But the sites given some links as sitewide, example we tried to get a back link & submitted url at once only, but it was showing in webmaster Total links 468 and linked pages 1. Can any one please explain, how it can happen?. We are trying to remove these spam kind of links, but from directory owners response is a bit disappointing, kindly any one suggest that, will Google Disavow tool help in this regard and how much time it will take to nullify the links?. Should I request backlinks to use anchor text that is page specific?
I work for a community college, with fairly high seo for the college in general. We have no budget for advertising specific programs, so we are trying to optimize individual pages on the website, e.g., physical therapy assistant, welding, etc. Does it make a difference if other websites use our main url, college name, or the college name plus specific program as the anchor text? Also, I'm seeing some posts here recommending to avoid lots of directory listings. I assume that doesn't apply to industry specific directories, like nursing school directories, right? I'm still a very new newbie and appreciate your advice.

Does google really care if anchor text is the "brand name"?
I have read a lot about how it is a good idea to build links with your "brand name" as the anchor text. I am somewhat skeptical about all this. I suspect that the only thing that you need to do is have a wide variety of anchor text, some no follow links, and some links without any anchor text at all or just your URL. IDoes anyone have an opinion on this? Also I am somewhat confused about what a "brand name" is anyway. Obviolusly it applies to words like "Apple Computers" or seomoz but can I "make" my own name, i.e. Paul W. Matthews, into a "brand Name" aulby putting it in the title of my home page and just using it a lot as anchor text? If yes, is this a good idea? thanks, Paul

Ideas for promoting some articles that have been written about me
Hi i would like some ideas on how i promote some websites that do not belong to me. The reason i would like to promote them is because they are newspaper sites that have written articles about me that have appeared in newspapers and now they have appeared on their website. One newspaper article that was done last week which is on their site is already on page two but others that were done some time ago, a few months ago are on page six and seven and i would like to try and get them on page one. Any ideas on how i can do this would be great as this would be great to gain as much exposure from these articles as possible

Paying someone to get me links-bad idea?
By this i dont mean paying for links as such...I mean the people that advertise on websites like Fiverr saying they will get you links to your site from edu/gov domains...or angela/paul style links etc. I'm doing all the proper link building stuff like blogging/guest blogs/articles etc etc but am up against competitiors with thousands of links...Is this a way to 'catch up' or should it be avoided. I'm new to all of this so be gentle lol...grateful for any replies
