Link Building for Landing Page
-
Hey Guys,
I have a client that is launching a website in about 2-3 months time. They have had a flash site for the last 4 years and have had no SEO/Link Building to the site and are now going to undertake my services for Content Strategy, Social Strategy and Link Building.
In the interim (from now till the next 3 months) they will be launching a "coming soon" landing page.
What I want to know is when doing their initial link building do I just concentrate on brand related links through local directories with the aim of getting a few local keyterms?
Or should we be deploying a longer term strategy of going after the competitive keyterms now?
Thanks,
Michael -
I'd keep the old site live and build links to it.
This means you have an actual live and complete website that other sites are more likely to link to, as apposed to a coming soon page. It gives you the option to build deep links to pages on the site. You can 301 redirect if URLs change on the new site.
It also means you can start link building now, not have to wait 3 months for the new site to go live. As you know there is always a delay between the start of a link building campaign, and the results.
Hope this is more helpful.

I am not sure what your client industry is so I am pitching the idea in general and then you can change it as per your industry.
Why not you put something interesting and valuable to your audience instead of a coming soon page... like provide a FREE guide to something what most people in your niche are looking for!
This will help you get some natural links from different multiple domains and at the same time this will increase your email list that you can later use to increase your sales ratio and more...

Hi David,
Thanks for the response. I merely wanted to start a discussion about the initial stages of building quality directory links for a landing page.
I know my question may have come across as broad and not specific but rather than insulting you could very easily asked for me to expand on my intentions to engage whether I did have any idea of what I was doing.
For your knowledge I never take what is written in the Q & A as gospel but I tend to have a huge amount of respect for the community and thought I would get an informative response.
For your interest we have a procedure for building link strategies for our clients, however we wanted to use the SEOMoz community to expand upon and take it to the next step.
My SEO strategy is usually based on a number of factors to gain link traction; combination of on-page strategy and promotional strategy which will be launched in 3 months. In the interim I was wondering whether anyone has had a similar experience pre-website launch.
Thank you for the link you shared. We are using many of these tactics already.
Just wanted to know your thoughts on this specific situation and what your approach would be.
Regards.

Hi Michael,
Question: Should you be selling services you don't know how to deliver?
Follow-up question: What if someone (unintentionally) gave you bad advice here and you acted on it?
Typically a business hires another business to provide a service they are experienced in delivering. I realise the only way to get experience is to do, but perhaps you should be learning on your own sites before moving on to clients.
To touch on your questions, local directories may be a very small part of a link building strategy, but they're definitely not the only part. Also, you are going to be extremely limited in the types of links you'll be able to achieve building to a 'coming soon' landing page. It also means you can't build deep links.
I would recommend reading, 'Starting A Link Building Campaign' here for starters: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links
If, after reading that you don't know if you can deliver a quality link building campaign, perhaps look at outsourcing the job to another SEO until you're up-to-speed yourself.
I don't mean to be come across as an ass, I'm honestly concerned for both you and your client. I hope this helps.

It would depend a lot on the niche .. if its uber tough then have a mix of hard and relatively easy ones . If the nich is not that hard to crack go after the hard ones from the get go.

Should I build internal links to my homepage?
Ive done a lot of internal linking before but its always been for other inner pages but now I need to do it for a websites homepage but this got me thinking if its even worth doing and should I be doing it at all? For the first question I was thinking that surely the homepage has more authority than any of my inner pages so how would internal links from inner pages help and for the second question Ive read a few posts like this Kissmetrics one here where it says you shouldnt do it. There are two types of links you should avoid using in your content: Homepage. Most sites have too many links to the homepage as it is. You would rather strengthen internal pages to boost the overall SEO of your site, rather than simply point more links at the homepage. https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ thoughts?

Better link building is hardest to achieve in 2014
In a simple words. My site has good quality content not copies 100% original. Have good social points more then 500 or twitter, fb, g+ (200) and now what to do with ranking. should i start linking, but where, please don't refer me any-page. As my thinking all old link building method are now died, like comment, rss, classifieds, footer links, directories. etc At this time i am thinking the powerful link building is hard to achieve in whole process of seo. Now any one tell me where do i start, linking to my site .....? (I also research on competitors but there links are all from contextual and linking domain sites DA is more then 70, and i can't even able to get one link by scraping more then 200 sites.) Thanks .

Link Building - Post Penguin
Hi, We have an eCommerce site that has recently been hit for some unnatural linking, resulting in a warning in our Google Webmaster Tools account. We weren't doing anything particularly underhand (and indeed before Penguin there wasn't a cause for concern) but nevertheless Google has picked up and penalised us. We've instantly removed the worst offending links and requested a resubmission. If this doesn't result in positive action from Google we're planning on employing the services of an Oracle member on SEOmoz who was kind enough to give us some fantastic free advice in order to go through and remove any further links that may be seen as questionable. Moving forward however I'm a little bit overwhelmed as to exactly what we should be doing in order to create a positive, natural link portfolio. I understand the emphasis is on ‘natural’ linking but we’ve been online for 8 years and I think it’s fairly safe to say that the number of links we have now is probably representative of about our ‘lot’ when it comes to 100% natural links. It would be nice to give our portfolio a nice gentle push in the right direction. I’ve checked through SEOmoz and the most up to date link building article they have appears to be http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links - This guide however does seem to suggest some things that are potentially frowned upon now (for example, highly optimised anchor text I understand is now a no-no). Obviously, in days gone by I could look at Open Site Explorer to try to emulate my competitors but, to be honest, most of them have what I would describe as a fairly poor link profile and if I'm going to invest real time in to this I want to make sure I'm heading off in the right direction. Does anybody on here know of a really high quality post penguin link building guide, either on SEOmoz or elsewhere that I can use as some bedtime reading? Our website is eCommerce in nature so an article tailored towards online selling would be ideal. Thanks for reading! Chris

Link Building - Where to start and how long to see results
Been working a lot on on-page seo and it mistifies me to observe that when i get A's constantly for search terms for on page but im not on the first 10 pages of Google compared to a competitor on page 1 with on page reports of C, D and even E! So, a lot of hard work "on page" does not equal to a lot of hard work which is obviously link building. my domain and page authority is only 18 and 27 whereas the main competitors are 50's and 60's. Is "link building" or lack of it my main issue? Here is the site http://www.govisitthelakes.com Very new to link building 😞 Anyone know a good place to start? Ive been working through open site explorer and starting to get some of my competitors links. How long to see results from link building to improve domain and page authority? or is it just "how long is a piece of string" and be patient. Thanks Ouji

Link Building with Bloggers
I want to know when it comes to link building with relevant bloggers, is there a difference among the following in terms of SEO value? product review product giveaway guest blog Also, what would look natural o Google as how many of such links I can build per month? We are a consumer products, we've had lots of bloggers approach us wanting to do the above link building with us, if they fit the profile, high quality site, relevant to our business, does that mean I can do as many per month as we'd like to?

Your opinion of link building strategy
Hi all, I just started working on the optimization of highly competitive keywords on one website. I already started posting articles in reputable directories, but as you know, more quality links are needed. To do that I created the following strategy: (see the uploaded image or http://i.imgur.com/9HCiM.png) The idea is to buy new domain and build page rank to this domain by other 3,4 domains that I will buy with PR3. Those 3 domains will contain low quality text generated by spinner just to keep that PR. Then those 3 domains will give PR to the newly created website which will contain only professionally written information and sometimes will give links to me. At the end I will get high quality links. I know it's hard work, but posting PR articles will not be enough. I will continue to spy the competition via SEOMoz OSE but for now that is the idea that I have for quality links. Share your opinion 🙂 9HCiM.png
