Twitter inbound link not being indexed
-
Hello Mozzers!
I was using open site explorer to investigate inbound links to our company website and also to our competitors. The main difference being is their top links are all coming from twitter - where as ours aren't.
Now our twitter account is about 10months old maybe more and it's got the standard setup with a description and the URL. We've also been tweeting with a link directly to our site. Yet no luck? Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Dan

The first step would be deciding upon a single URL to represent your home page. The traditional version of your home page URL would be www.sparkstone.co.uk. If you want to use www.sparkstone.co.uk/home that can work, but you must use it 100% of the time. Even so, it is likely a percentage of users will link to the www.sparkstone.co.uk url without the /home so my first choice would be using your domain as your home page without the /home.
Once you make your choice, update all internal links and any other links you control to use the same version of the URL.

Thanks for the reply.
I see. Would it be more beneficial to make sure all of our links aim to /home or would it be a better approach to remove the redirect and leave the URL as www.sparkstone.co.uk.

The main difference being is their top links are all coming from twitter - where as ours aren't.
I examined their top 50 links in OSE and their only twitter links are two nofollow'd links from their main twitter page to their site's home page which are nofollow'd. Both links are from different versions of the same URL which I am confident Google recognizes and thus values as a single link.
Your site is in need of SEO attention. For example, the URL of your home page is: http://www.sparkstone.co.uk/home. Your twitter link goes to http://www.sparkstone.co.uk. That is a different URL. If you use the default OSE settings the links only appear for the particular url you entered.
SEO begins with providing solid website architecture. The next step is to provide world-class content. Once you have a fantastic website with incredible content, THEN you want to examine earning links.

I think so - our profile is public and I've not selected any advanced options such as "protect my tweets". Not getting many retweets no, but we're working on it.

Are your twitter links publicly viewable? Are your twitter links earning retweets from others thereby increasing their visibility?
Without examining both your account and your competitors we are left guessing.

Should my images on Pinterest point to the affiliate links or back to my site?
I have a affiliate site that involves handmade boots (i.e. cowboy boots, hinking boots, etc...). I currently put pics of them on my sites with a affiliate link. After I do this, I use the Pinterest browser button in chrome and add them to my Pinterest account. It adds these images to my Pinterest account with the affiliate link. Should I be doing this or should I be adding them to my Pinterest with links to my website?

ROS Outbound Social Links vs Connect Page with Social Feed?
A client wants to include social media icons in their footer. Instead of linking to facebook, Google+, etc they would like to link to a page with social feeds from their networks. Are there any SEO implications to doing this?

Should my small business website link to Yelp?
I'm kind of on the fence about this one. Should I include a social media icon for Yelp on my website? We have great reviews, but so do most of my competitors. I'd like to share my reviews, but I also do not want to send traffic away from my website to another website (Yelp) that lists my competitors. What do you think?

Benefits of getting inbound links to your Facebook account to go through your domain?
Hi, I was browsing a magazine recently and came across an advert that had a text of: domain.com.au/facebook When you visit this address you are automatically redirected to their Facebook account. It got me thinking, is there any benefit to this? It's the first time I've seen it and I presume they get links from outside sources to their FB account to go to domain.com.au/facebook rather than facebook.com/sitename Thanks

How to get a link on Twitter box in Huffington Post?
Hey guys, got a question about the Huffington Post and its Twitter widget - see screenshot attached HuffPo seems to be aggregating links somehow under the "Top links on this topic" heading within the Twitter widget. At first I thought this was an official Twitter wdget; http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets However, I can't find it on Twitter's site and I'm starting to think it's a custom widget possibly developed by HuffPo themselves. My question is how do I get my site to rank under their "Top links"? Is it feeding on Twitter presence or is it feeding from Google News or through something else? Many thanks in advance for any light shed on this topic Edit: Link to Huffington Post page example from screenshot Screen%252520shot%2525202011-10-24%252520at%25252017.26.54.png
