Keyword: singular vs plural
-
Hi,
I've been putting some efforts to rank well for "San Antonio Wedding Photographer". I am ranked ok for that but not so on "San Antonio Wedding Photographers".
My website is http://www.soobumimphotography.com/
So now, I am trying to rank for "San Antonio Wedding Photographers" instead since Google auto fills wedding "photographers" in search term.
Question - Should I change my site title and some post / page title etc? What's the best way to do this? Thank you
Soobum

I agree with all the great responses here. Just make sure when you do your keyword research on the Google Keyword Tool or Elsewhere, Choose Exact Match to get a good read on the data.

Soobum,
I think you are worrying a bit about the wrong thing. First, for wedding ... photography is most searched, followed by photographer, then photographers. But, on your site, you have a few minor issues if this is what you want to rank for.
First, multiple meta descriptions. You are probably pulling one from the page and one from the Yoast SEO plugin you are using.Next, when I see you on the SERPS, the first thing I see is San Antonio Wedding Photographer - specialized in blend of photojournalism and.....
For me, I believe the meta description has to speak to the search. So, if I am looking for wedding photos and see photojournalism (think - they are not photographers)... well, there is an issue. But, let's say it isn't and I click on your link (after all, you are first after the 7 pack so 4th organic): I land on a page with possibly a wedding photo in the slider or a lady golfer or San Antonio Spurs, etc. Then the next image on the page is bike riders.
With any site, you need to focus your pages around your search terms. With a site of photography, if you are going to be a generalist, you need to have wedding photographer page, sports photographer page, family reunion page, professional portfolio page, etc. Then focus your on page around each page individually. So, if I want a sports photographer for my son's basketball team, and I search on sports photography, I want to land on sports pictures after being told you have done photos for the Spurs, Michele Wie, etc.
If you follow this convention as opposed to worrying about singular or plural, you will move up in the rankings as your CTR will improve and your bounce rate will improve. Show people what they are looking for. If you want to get photography, photographer, photographers then create individual content for each page around those terms. Create individual meta descriptions around those terms. So, in landing on photography, you might talk about what wedding photography is and how you approach it. For photographer(s) you might differentiate a couple of types of wedding photographers and classify yourself. For photographer...you get it by now I am guessing. So, all fresh content (not the same imgs for each page).
Hope this helps,

You migh have a little room in that title tag to get another phrase in there. Title tags are up to 70 characters long

Just changed site title to "San Antonio Wedding Photographers"

I have good results in the past when I optimize for the plural term - it usually picks up the non-plural term as well.
But I do agree with tomcraig86 that you should go after the terms that highest search traffic. If both the plural and non-plural versions are similar in traffic stats then I would say go with the plural term since the non-plural term is automatically included.
-
Soobum, If I were you I'd go after the search term with the highest traffic volume. Check google Adwords keyword tool to see which is higher. From your description of autocomplete, I would suggest you go after the plural. You won't lose too many positions in the serps for the non plural version, but you should see more traffic coming from the plural keyword. Try changing your title tag and h1 to reflect this, if it's something you want to go ahead with!

Google keywords
I'm having trouble understanding how google determines out of my text what are the keywords and what aren't. Is there somewhere I can go that will tell me what google sees as my dominant keywords and I'd like to see my total keyword list too. We are running eCommerce and I don't think it is picking up on everything we expected it to see as keywords. I'm pretty new to this SEO stuff but I'm trying to learn. Any help would be appreciated. I understand I'm suppose to include important words in my page titles, headers and meta description and use effective markup as well so I'm just a bit lost on how I can actually see what google counts as my keywords and their level of power/importance. If this isn't possible if anyone has any suggestions on how to gauge this, I'm open to ideas! Thanks in advance guys!

How many keywords is too many?
Hi there Moz'ers, I run a mens fashion brand called THE AFFAIR, where we craft premium T-shirts and Art Prints inspired by your favourite books. So my problem is that I have no idea what to try to rank for keyword wise because every product is inspired by a different book and author. Whilst I could go very wide and try for terms such as "graphic t-shirts" or "printed t-shirts" they are a) super competitive and b) bear no relation to the primary selling point being the literature inspired basis of what we do. But on the flip side, there's just not that many people searching for "Jules Verne t-shirts" or even "Adventure t-shirts" to go a little wider at the genre level. Basically I'm confused at a conceptual level about how to best select my keywords and desperately need some help before running down the wrong path! For what it's worth the site is built on WP (using WooCommerce) and I have installed Yoast and begin playing around with it... But anyway it's the larger strategy that has me stumped at the moment and I really don't know where to begin. Thanks for your time and all comments very much appreciated. FREE T-SHIRT to whoever has the best solution 🙂 cheers

How can I "target keywords"?
Hello everyone, Could you please explain how can I "target keywords"? So from my understanding, I do a research on keywords, then find those which I can rank for easily, and then what? Do I build links to my website pages with these keywords? Or do I create different articles on the website with this keyword?

How to Choose the Best Keywords for a Website
I am working with an insurance agency that wants to target the below types of insurance in Dalton GA, Ringold GA, Chattanooga TN and and/or Georgia. Home Insurance
Keyword Research | | lagunaitech
Auto Insurance
Health Insurance
Life Insurance
Restaurant Insurance
Contractor Insurance They are a new agency that doesn't have a website yet and only a small online marketing budget. Right now, I'm starting to work with them on their new site and want to make sure the on-site SEO works with the insurance/locations they want to target. What I'm having trouble with is the volume of monthly searches and trying to find keywords that they could realistically get some traffic and leads from. Most of the keywords I check with the Adwords tool are less than 50 exact match searches or just show a dash. The only keywords with a decent amount of exact searches are the main insurance types like "restaurant insurance" or "home insurance Georgia". How can I get an idea of the number of leads and amount of traffic this site might get when most of the keywords searched for only a handful of times per month? I can build the site to easily target all the above types of insurance in Dalton, GA, which has a population of about 33,000, but I don't know what kind of results this agency might expect if they were to rank in the top 3 spots. Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice!0 -
Specific Keyword Ranking Advice
Hi Folks, We're trying to optimize the page (http://alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/) for the keyword "goat milk soap". Our page used to rank #1 before Panda (actually our home page did, not the page I'm trying to optimize on now). Now we're around rank 25. I've followed all the guidelines for on-page optimization I know, and I've done everything I can think of. We're currently executing a link building campaign but that obviously takes time. Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything else I can do to improve our ranking? Thanks, Hal

Keyword Research Tool
Which tool is most reliable to do Keyword Research ? I have observed that data in Google Keywords Tool seems to fluctuate a lot. For instance a particular keyword in GKT had an exact Global Search Volume of 2800 3 days back , today it is around 1200 . I can not make decisions on such unreliable data ...

Search Volume vs. CTR
Is it better to optimize based on search volume or click through rate? For example: If a keyword has a CTR of 19% and only 3,000 monthly searches, while another keyword that is relevant to that page has a CTR of 0.7% and 20,000 monthly searches, which keyword should that page be optimized for for better natural results and the bottom line?
