Why am is my PR # dropping after signing up for quality directories?

I have followed the suggestion regarding quality inbound linking from reputable sites....ie open directory, yahoo, and only directories recommended by other SEO groups and only with PR's of 4 or higher. After listing, my PR # went down. How do I find the culprit to start reversing this? My fear is I am on a downward slope..Thanks!

Yes, Open Site Explorer can do exactly that.
As to your original question, adding yourself to Dmoz and Yahoo will not cause your PR to drop. I can't speak to the "other directories" recommended to you without reviewing them.
How exactly have you determined your PR dropped? Toolbar PR is only updated about 3 times each year.
Do you also have some low quality links to your site? It is possible other low quality links have been devalued which led to the PR drop.

Well on page is a different project we will be working on, yes it needs some updating. The only reason I asked is because nothing on this site has been touched in months EXCEPT for adding directories. Then it went down. So I am wondering if the inbound links could have damaged? Is there a tool or report that can point me in the direction to review only inbound linking results?

Did you loose search positions ?
I think you shouldn't be so concerned by PageRank. You can be PageRank 6 and still reside on the last page of the search results. By the time it's updated on the Toolbar, it's already out of date.
Concentrate your site's content. Obsess over the design. Is your content and looks better than the competition ?

Link quality
Hi, Having read dozens of your blogs and found them highly informative, i have to ask a question. I am kicking oout our SEO company and have taken over the SEO myself with some excellent results. Our SEO providers tell me that links from any site (irrelevent of their DA) are good, providing they are comming from a relevant source. We are in the security industry and according to MOZ, we have a DA of 52. If i can get a link to our site from another company in our industry but they have a DA of 10, is this really beneficial for me? Info i have read in Moz blogs suggest it is n ot a good idea. Link DIrectories - Is it a Good Idea with recent Panda Updates
Yo! I have been doing a tonn of research on a few of my top competitors and have noticed that a decent percentage of their links are from link directories. Most of these directories seem organized and the links on the pages are relevant to the selected category. These pages offer both free link submission and a paid feature link submission. My question is that is it a good idea to submit my site to these directories with the recent Panda update(s). I have read a bit about it, but still do not fully grasp the overall picture of it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

In the Yahoo link directory you can submit paid or free, which do you use?
Has anyone here had any luck getting Yahoo to pickup links submitted through the free option? How long does this generally take? Or do you usually just pay the $300/year on your clients behalf? Or do you get your client to cover it? Link Building PR versus topic
Regarding link building, what counts the most in terms of PR and relevance(topic). Is it whether, the link comes from a domain/page with high domain/page rank or that the link come from a domain with similar/relevant content? I know, we should always aim to get links from domains with both relevance and good page rank. But which is most important? For example: If we have a web site about swiss made watches. Should i focus on getting links from other domains with information about swiss made watches. Or can i achieve just as good link juice, by getting links from un-related web sites with high PR? We will of course get more qualified traffic from related domains. But from a pure search ranking, what plays the biggest factor?
