CPA bidding advice needed please?

Morning all!
I need help with my adwords budget (not a loan :-)), when I use the Google recommended CPA bid it eats my money whatever budget, (I spent £135 yesterday which is far too much.. I can keep topping it up as long as the sales keep coming in, but when i take my eyes off Google uses my budget fast.
My adwords account has been tweeked by a pro since Feb 12 with 722 conversions at 10.22%. I have now taken over and personalised the campaigns (I've read many books and have 5+ years adwords experience)
Anyhow here's the question;
Today Google suggests a MAX CPA of £9.75 and a target of £6.72. what prices do you suggest ? I've set daily ammount at £60.00
And which option should I choose in Ad rotation; Clicks,Conversions or rotate evenly?
My best ad has had 134 conversions.
I'm selling Tigi Bed Head & Redken hair care products. www.thehairroom.co.uk
Thank you
-
Ta very much.
-
I use best cost for conversion by keyword. But, I will run other ads if the volume is really low.
-
Hi EGOL, thank you again.
Last question ( for today )
My ads, should i use the best conversions or CTR's?
Have a good week end.

Quality scores of 7 to 10 are good. Nice work!
When I write ads I start with about six. I let them run until superior / inferior ads can be identified. The number that I have running depends upon performance. I might only have one good ad or I might have several. However, I always have a new one in testing - unless I am really happy with results.
You might try tweaking the landing page to improve conversions.
I don't delete old ads, I keep them for reference although I don't know if that has any impact upon the performance of the campaign or ad group.

Hi EGOL,
Now that my friend is an answer! Thank you.
I have got my Brad Geddes book back out to read again, and I shall get rid of the lower quality words, again.... most of my words are 6 - 10? average of 7...
I have around 50 ads which I use, all paused, should i get rid of a few to improve quality?
How many ads should I have running at any one time? 2?
I'm burning money here! and making a lot of parcels! but ROI is too low.
Regards
Mark

If I was taking over a campaign like this.... I would...
-
take another shot at improving the quality score
-
drop the least effective ad and rotate the rest giving conversions the preference
-
write two more ads that might be superior to what's currently the best and in review their performance monthly
-
Google is guessing at your MAX CPA. ... the real answer depends upon your costs of filling a sale and your selling price (which can be tweaked).... Your goal is to make a maximum profit per day.
========================
If you have not done so, consider reading. Advanced Google Adwords by Brad Geddes. I have read it twice, and reread some parts of it many times. Best book anywhere for adwords.
If you are spending major money on PPC then you must attend Brad's Adwords Seminars. This is two days of intense training for Adwords. This is not a fluffy seminar. The first morning covers the basics and then you get deep into spreadsheet math. Adwords is not a word game, it is a math game. This is not a seminar where you will sit, sip coffee, fart and go home an expert. You are going to do lots of math that will require you to think VERY HARD. But if you can learn what is being taught you will definitely make a lot more money and your competitors will be making a lot less.

Joram,
Excellent answers here. Thanks,

If you had 3305 conversion on that campaign last month then Google definitely has enough data to use to optimise your campaign!
I wouldn't lower the recommended bid with more than 10%. If you can't afford losing some conversions I wouldn't lower it at all.
-
Hello again, thank you for that, I will try it..
I've had 305 conversions in the last 30 days, so my history for CPA should be very good?
Last question, how much lower than googles target CPA do you recommend lowering to, or should I leave it alone?
Best Regards
Mark -
Hi Mark,
Your average CPA can get slightly lower as your conversion rate improves. When the campaign is running at your target CPA for a while you can try to lower your CPA bid a little.
Conversion optimizer only works on campaigns with at least 15 conversions over the last 30 days. It's a great tool to use for campaigns that already have a satisfying average CPA . For these campaigns the tool can save you a lot of work optimising and managing the campaign.
This new tool might help you control your budgets.

Thank you for your reply Joram ten Ham.
Does the target CPA bid slowly get lower the more CPA is used over time?
I have over 250 campaigns and it eats my budget fast! Do you advise CPC which is so slow to convert or CPA which there isn't much ROI left? I still ahve to watch it like crazy.

I would use target CPA. This option gives AdWords more flexibility to generate conversions and it tries to keep the average CPA over a longer period below your target CPA. As target CPA you put a price that you are happy to pay for a conversion. (Don't lower the recommended bid too much)
Since your campaign's main goal is to drive conversions, I would choose the 'optimise for conversions' Ad rotation option. After a while you can remove ads that have a low converison rate and add new ones, based on your best performing ads.
Good luck!

New to Moz, need some probably basic answers about Keywords, Linking, Competitors and General SEO
Hi, So I have quite a lot of data colelcted about my site now, regarding keyword research, page crawling and competitor research ect. But I find myself second guessing myself about what I have done and what to do next. I have done basic research for as many relevant keywords I could think of to my site, including branded and non branded terms. If the main competitive keywords for my niche are very competitive, shall I start doing more research for long tail keywords and only try to rank for them? Does is matter how many keywords I am doing research for? Does is matter how many keywords I try to optimise for each webpage? Are the amount of branded keywords I am researching skewing my results? As they are all ranked #1, but nearly all of the non branded keywords are much further down the list... Once I have decided what keywords are worth trying to ranking for for each page, are the techniques to actually rank more highly for them - Title, H1 Tag, Description, Meta Data, Fresh Content and using the keywords on the page? Or are there more techniques I haven't heard of? Under Keyword Rankings - I noticded that some of my keywords are directing to specific pages, like "Cavity Waxes" is directing to the URL ending in .com/cavity-waxes - How do you assign the keywords im researching to specific URLs? - Or does Moz do it automatically? As most of my keywords seem to be unassigned to any URL, is that because they are not ranking highly enough? How do I best use the data collected through Moz? Good practices? Techniques? Tips and Tricks? What is the best practice for finding potential link partners and asking them for mutual linking? Techniques for finding partners that are likely to link with us, but still provides link juice. I must apologise for this long-winded set of questions, but these are troubling me! Any help would be greatly appreciated, Kind regards, Max Johnson

I need to find a writer that is SEO savvy yet great with hooks, editing, and.....
I need to find a writer that is SEO savvy yet great with 1. Hooks (like hooking the user in. This site for instance has "Inbound marketing is complicated. Moz's software makes it easy". 2. Editing - Someone that is again SEO savvy, and doesn't mind editing my text. (Focused mainly on the text for the site right now, articles will be later.) 3. Explaining something complicated in a simple way that engages the user. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe even someone they use / used? Or which site do you all like best for finding a writer? I registered at textbroker.com but maybe need to look harder...just wasn't seeing anyone that matched that criteria. My budget isn't high, but I believe in paying for quality, so even if I have to pay a high rate for excellent work, they'll also have to be cool with me only doing a page here and a page there every few days or so, as my writing budget for my new site is only $50-$120 a week right now.

Need advice interpreting these changes in my search traffic
I've recently made a few changes to my site based on some advice from the seomoz tool. I've noticed some changes in the traffic data (see attached image) which I can't completely explain. First, the good news is that total organic search visits is up 2%. I assume this is the most important metric and I'm obviously happy with total increase in organic search. At the same time the number of number of URL's entered on search is down 1%. I think this can be explained by the fact that I removed some duplicate pages (like archives that had the same content as the blog post pages, etc.) The part that I don't quite understand is that total number of non paid keywords sending search is down 3%. That seems like an unexplained decrease that I can't really account for. Any ideas on how to interpret this? Is it also possible that a single week's results can be misleading about how well your SEO efforts are paying off? 20120711-j4ti8ynwi1hn4rbrsppe167m6.jpg

What do I really need
Hello all. I’m new to this SEO stuff and after reading much, remain very, very confused as to what I really need. First, I’ll say I’m here because I have been impressed with the posts and the general professional approach that seem to exist on Seomoz. My problem is that I run a small business that’s not doing so well and I do know that my website needs to be found. With this being the case I contacted an SEO company and on being given a price for 12 months of service, almost feel of my chair as this would clear me out. This, without any guarantee. Due to the above I am now considering having a go at the SEO myself. However, this leads to another problem in that, given it appears I need so many online services, it again becomes very expensive for one man and his single website. I have seen much written about Seomoz, Raven (something I’m trying now), Seospyglass and Seo Powersuite (a few reports appear bad) and between these and other possibly lesser well known brands leaves me wondering what I need to achieve improved website visibility. Does not one product exist that can help the smaller business without breaking the bank, and if not, what might be the best approach to tackle this problems cost effectively. I am aware that Seomoz has it’s followers, but having said this, it appears that a good degree of openness and honesty is provided here. Your comments would be most appreciated.

For SEOMoz Staff - Can You Make a Better Referral Badge, PLEASE?
I am going to send referrals to SEOMOZ and I want to put a badge on my site with my referral link from this page: http://www.seomoz.org/users/referrals Can you make some banners where we can just select an image src with a call to action like "FREE SEO Tools" and "Free 30 Day Trail"? Currently the only badges I see say something wack like "I Love SEOMOZ" http://www.seomoz.org/dp/badges I need something that converts higher than "I love SEOmoz". Love yah guys!
