Link Building & Juice
-
I have a corporate client which has multiple franchises, therefore microsites (www.example.com/cityname) within their corporate website(www.example.com). I am trying to build some links for these microsites that are lot weaker than the corporate web page in terms of PA.
We worked hard putting most of these locations into local directories such as Google places and yahoo local, but the ones on yahoo local are all pointing to www.example.com even when you search a specific city when it suppose to be www.example.com/cityname. So first thought is to edit all of the yahoo locals to the microsite webpages for every locations but then I thought that wasn't a good idea since I will split the juice passed to the corporate website www.example.com. The corporate website is really important and wouldn't want to weaken its PA.
Can someone tell me what are my options in order to not hurt the corporate website and to improve ranking for these weak microsites? should I still edit those yahoo listings to the microsite website or not? if not what how will I be able to build more links?
Thank you!!

Hi Taysir,
If the company has made the effort to create unique city landing pages for each franchise, then, yes, it's a best practice to link from local business profiles to the respective city landing pages in any directory that allows you to do so. And, if corporate headquarters has its own local phone number and address, it can have its own directory listings as well that would link to the homepage. I recommend that you do link up the Yahoo profiles to the landing pages.
BTW, here is the link to the PRO webinar referenced by JP:

Look for the SEOMOZ tutorial by Benu Aggarawal (spelling might be wrong). The focus is on local optimization and they really go into detail about citations, links, NAPs (yes nap), etc. I haven't seen Yahoo local mentioned in a long time - is it that significant that it deserves that much focus over Google & Bing? Here's a pure speculation on my part, but if you do edit Yahoo Local as you've suggested, the PA might not be as strong, but wouldn't the DA retain it's integrity?
Definitely spend the hour or so in reviewing the tutorial - I think it's called Google Places Best Practices or something like that. Very good stuff when it comes to optimizing for local.

How much should a link building program cost?
Hi All, I am relatively new to the world of SEO but it is vital to our business that we improve in this area. I believe our site architecture is good although we have a new site coming in the next few weeks which is effectively a re-skinning of the existing one that makes the user experience more relevant. What I would like to know is how much a link building program shoudl cost from an SEO provider and how they quantify what they charge - is there some kind of indicative cost per link or is it just "give us some money and we will do our best?" We have started writing daily articles on our news site and our natural listings are already pretty good. What I am looking to achieve is top three status for the London area (where we work) accross a broad range of keywords. I know this is what everyone wants but we are already front page and top 3 for many keywords and the back link building would appear to be where we are weaker compared to some of our competitors. Thanks James www.morganpryce.co.uk

Most effective method for link building?
From your experience, what have you found to be the most effective method for link building? It's starting to look like the only way to receive good links is by writing great content or offering great services and allowing the links to come in naturally (which is obviously the most important thing anway), but are there still any effective methods of getting valuable links through link building, apart from having personal connections and relationships with site owners?

Build Links with Bloggers
Hi! A few days ago, someone asked about how to ask links from bloggers and we got good answers, specially from Egol. But, I do want to add to that question: after conducting research on each blogger and make sure they have good quality content, how would you factor in their page rank, visitors, page view and social media info? if they don't have much traffic, with PR3 (we are PR4), which means we can't count on too much traffic from them, but, will backlink from such places deemed as quality link by Google? I do understand the higher number in PR and traffic is better, but, in our case, they don't come by often. Is it still worthwhile to do the lower sites?

How much Link Building?
I'm wondering how much additional directory links to a site, on a monthly basis, would be too much, and potentially seen as too manufactured in Google's eyes. I am referring specifically to good quality, or relevant, directory links, nothing very spammy. I know there is no specific number, just wondering what the consensus is. Would a 10% monthly increase in linking root domains generally be considered too much? 5%? Thanks for your input!

Link Building in non-competitive industry
Hello, My client's home page is targething 2 keywords - one at 43% difficulty (SEOMoz Keyword Difficulty Tool) and one at 50% difficulty. I want to link build for this person, but I analyzed the top 5 competitors and there is no resource section on any of the sites. We want to write 20 articles for our site. So there's no people linking to content that I can find. This messes up my link building because I always make targeted content on the subject that people are already linking to How do I link build in this case. Nothing stands out as something I could do with my site for link bait. Thanks!

Can Referral Programs pass Link Juice?
Does using referral programs, such as by using index.php?referral_id=0001 pass any link juice back to the page index.php? I'm creating a web app that ideally I'd like people to be able to link to and bookmark - so that they can pull up their own settings. Is there any way that I can solve both of these at once? The use of PHP GET and the use of SEO. I'd really like to get a solution as I'm developing my new website! Any help would be appreciated!
