How long does it take Google to index new title tags and meta descriptions?
-
Hi,
I have launched a website ( www.bookkeepingking.com )and would like Google to reflect the latest title tag changes in its results. How long does it typically take to happen? I believe this might be one reason why the site may not be generating any search traffic yet, even though I haven't yet begun any link building yet.
A couple of notes:
- When I enter site:bookkeepingking.com in the search box, the pages show up, but with the old/default title and meta descriptions.
- I am using the Yoast for SEO plugin
- I have resubmitted the XML map - Yoast created 2... /page-sitemap.xml and /post-sitemap.xml
- The changes were made about 1 week ago.
- WMT says that there are zero errors.
Is there something I may have missed? Or do I just need to give it more time?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Erin

Hi J.P.
I just updated some title tags as well. I just posted the page link to my google + profile. I will let you know how quickly google updates them in the serps.
-
Ah yes, I know the "Choose Tall Women" deck is out there for free, but I can't remember if he had that tidbit in the actual deck content.
What you are saying sounds logical - would love to see it in practice and know if it works!
-
Makes sense.
-
I don't really know about the email addresses, I would venture to guess (like anything else) the more simple and straight-forward it is, the better it'll be for Google.

Owen,
OK, I was trying not to let the 'cat out of the bag' for those of us who did pay to see one of these presentations recently, lol.
I don't know how this will work for pages that have already been updated, but I'd assume it works the same as 'new content' because, to the best of my knowledge, it's not updating Google search indices when you add the link via Google+, but instead pinging Google and notifying them that there's new content on your site.

JP Rand mentioned this trick in a presentation I saw recently. I got the impression it was best suited for new pages - not necessarily to update pages that have been indexed in the past. Any insight on that?

Thanks... do you mean if any link is posted through a company G+ account, it should update the results?
That reminds me, I have a quick questions about personal G+ accounts. Is there any advantage to using a root domain email address associated with the G+ account or can any email address be used, as long as there are associated links within the profile?
Thanks,
Erin

Erin, again I'd try the Google+ technique. If you decide to try this, please tell me how long it takes to get indexed between the time posted and the time you see it within the indices. I'd be interested to see whether or not my theory is correct.
Back when Google+ was getting started, someone shared a little Google+ SEO tip with me and said that if you post a link through Google+, it should show up within their search results almost instantly.

good luck! feel free to thumbs up anyone who helps out

Thanks everyone, for the feedback and reassurance that I am on the right track. This is a client's site and he is not quite ready/convinced to dive into social media. At this point, we are taking it step-by-step. That said, I do have some local link-building and content creation plans in the works that are just not quite there yet.
J.P. - Thanks for the suggestion! It's good to know that this will impact the indexing. I will work on this with the client, just believe it might take some time.
Irving - Thanks. I resubmitted the sitemap, but have not requested the re-crawl. I will do that.
Owen - Okay... good to know it still may take some time. And yes, it desperately needs links... working on that.
Again, thanks to all of you for your input!
Best,
Erin

Erin, it does take some time for these changes to happen. That amount of time varies per site and it can depend on your authority. Your site is less than a year old and according to OSE has little to no inbound links to it. Keep working on the content and drum up some excitement about the site.
What are you doing to drive interest in your website?
-
Give it a bit more time. You can request Google to recrawl your site in WMT and also speed up the crawl rate on your site a bit in WMT.
-
Should work even faster if you post the link to your Google+ profile hint hint

Thoughts on adding "near me" to title tag for local SEO?
I want to lean out my title tags and will most likely be doing an A/B test. They currently have the "Near Me" modifier in there, which I believe Google can distinguish local SEO without it. Thoughts?

Generating a meta-description
What are some things I should know before implementing a process whereby (public) user account data is used to generate a meta-description? I can't find much information in the existing forums. Are rich snippets a better option in 2015?

Properly changing title, URL and content for new keywords without harming other rankings.
Hello - We are looking to try to bring up some keywords in the SERPs that we are currently ranking fairly low for. We sell Christening clothing for children and people will use both Christening and Baptism to search for the same thing. We currently rank very high for Christening (#1 on Google for certain combinations) but we are fairly low on Baptism.

I am trying to figure out the best way to start getting Baptism up by changing some title, URL and content pages to include more Baptism keywords. My concern is messing with the existing because we rank so well for Christening. Since we are ecommerce we can vary this quite a bit on our products, but again I'm nervous to do so fearing changing the wrong things, too many products etc and in the process of trying to raise one set of keywords (baptism) we harm the other set (christening).
Any advice would be appreciated!0 -

Title Tag suggestions for blog....
Hi Guys. I have been sorting out title tags for a photography site. I have given each page within the website a different title tag but now Im unsure as what I should do with the blog. Blog title tag is currently "Portrait Photographer London | Company Name Blog" This is fine however wordpress combines the homepage title tag with the title of each blog post and imo makes for a long & cumbersome title...such as : "The Obamas Family Portrait | Portrait Photographer London | Company Name Blog" I'm pretty sure I could do better and should do better but Im at a loss, what do you guys think?

Title, other html tags not showing on onpage reports
Either something is seriously wrong with my website or seomoz is not analyzing my site correctly. When I view the source code for my site (www.myfavoritetoys.com) I clearly see elements such as page title, h1 tags etc. However, on the onpage reports seomoz says these elements are missing. I am not seeing any meaningful data in the reports because it isn't analyzing correctly. Please help!
