Links aren't showing up in SEOMOZ resports
-
Hi,
I've been building links to my client's website for the past 3 weeks. I know that there are several sites that link to my client's website now but SEOMOZ's link analyses says there aren't any sites linking to my client's website.
Anybody know what's up with that?
Sincerely,
Rex

Yep - crawls are at intervals. If you go to opensiteexplorer you'll see "Last Index Update: Oct. 8th 2012" (or whichever other date it is. We all have to be patient. I'm also waiting for one of my sites to show the latest changes. For a current client who wants changes by peak season in December - January, I'm already rolling out changes now. Good luck

Seomoz updates opensiteexplorer Index at least every 4 weeks
Looks like the next update is on Monday, Nov 5, 2012. Right around the corner.

I hope after 5 November when you check your links. You see different report.
Thanks KLLC

There are two factors you need to consider here:
-
SEOmoz updates Linkscape on about a monthly interval. You can see the next update is scheduled on November 5th. https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/345964-linkscape-update-schedule

Linkscape crawls a sample portion of the web. There is no guarantee your link is going to be found by Roger.
Here is what I would do for the client:
- Keep your own spreadsheet with the links that you've built.
- Download the 'latest links' report in Google Webmaster Tools. This seems update only a few days behind.
- If a link doesn't appear in GWT, perhaps the page you got the link from is not indexed. Post it on G+, Tweet it, whatever. Try to get it indexed.
Open Site Explorer is a great tool for analyzing backlinks and for trends, but it is not perfect. No backlink analysis tool is. It may show a link you've built one month only to disappear the next month because Roger crawled a different set of pages. That doesn't mean your link has disappeared or has any less value to Google.

Rex,
Another thing you may want to do, check Google Webmasters. Sometimes the information on there is updated faster than the SEOmoz tool.
Best Regards

Hi Rex,
It takes time for the the Link Analysis to crawl through the pages and links associated with them.
I have had links to my site which were created over 6 weeks ago which are beginning to filter through to the system now.
Be patient and your hard work of creating (the high quality, industry specific) links will show.
Thanks
ST

Buy domain, redirect, get all the good links (+link juice) and disavow the spammy ones?
There is a domain for sale that has a quite nice profile and a lot of good backlinks, but also quite a few spammy ones. This domain has a Spam Score of 14% acc. to Moz Link explorer, ours has only 2%. My questions: 1. The domain and the good backlinks are related to or close to our content/keywords. But we are worried whether the "spammy" ones will hurt us. Does anyone has experience with this? 2. Would it help if we disavow the spammy backlinks afterwards? And if so, how do we do that? Add new domain to search console, disavow the bad links and then redirect the entire domain to our domain or redirect the domain first and then disavow from our property? Many thanks for your help!

Links to main landing category page or links directly to products
I have an ecommerce website and a manufacturer is providing links directly to my website from their products pages because they do not sell directly online. What is my best linking juice power for this situation:

Manufacturer A has a number of different brands: brand1, brand2, brand3 and a number of different products in each of it brands. They are currently linking their individual products to my individual products on my website. My website is setup like this:

my.com/manufacture-A/brand1
my.com/manufacture-A/brand1/product1
my.com/manufacture-A/brand1/product2
my.com/manufacture-A/brand2
my.com/manufacture-A/brand2/product1
my.com/manufacture-A/brand2/product2 What is the best practice for this situation:
--Linking manufacturer product to my product
--Linking manufacturer product to my associated brand page
--Linking manufacturer product to main manufacturer page
--or something else? Thank you and I can provide more details if need be. Denny0 -
Is there a tool to find out our website's link in some other website?
sometimes we know our site link is there on a site but the site is so big its hard to search manually. Is there any tool which can crawl the whole site and find the page having our site link ? though I know about OSE, and we can also see backlinks from webmaster tool. But still if you know any tool where instead of seeing the whole back link profile, we can add a specific url and see our site link in that url.

Why don't some external links "count"?
A car-dealer client advertises through DexKnows, and the entry includes a link to the client's website. That link is not listed as a linking domain through OpenSite Explorer for the client's site. A competing car dealer also advertises through DexKnows, but that link is counted as a linking domain for the competitor. Why the difference? (I'm new and still learning -- linkbuilding appears to be my weakness.) Thank you!

What to do with some good links I have?
I have some pretty strong links from relevant sources linking to the homepage of a site I deal with. The links are usually from a PR3-5 pages and display specific result about the linking site. Sometimes they come from badges. We offer several services, so sometimes the page is about one service and next time about the other. Currently all of my pages link to the homepage. Would it not be better to link to the specific product page related to the page I have? Also I can do a canonical to the service pages? Which would be best?

Outbound links and their pro's and con's
So I was wondering if there was a general consensis regarding the amount of outbound links you have coming from your domain to other domains and if there is a correlation between the more you have going out, the more (for want of a better word) damage you can do to your domain. EG: is a site with good domain authority better to keep the short leash on handing out links to external sites? Does this make the link juice from the site more valuable?

Link Building
I've been hearing about going after niche directories, and my question is most of them have a ton of links on any given page. Is it even worth taking the time to approach these sites knowing they won't pass a lot of link juice?
