Google Places to Google+ Places - Strange Problem!
-
Hi
I had a Google Places listed fully completed 100% and was ranking well in the local search results. However since it has been converted to a Google+ Local page it is not ranking like it used to and the main problem I can see is that the address is now incorrect on theGoogle+ local listing
However it wont let me change the address? yet when I click on manage this page and view the listing under Google Places the address is correct?
Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hi Ocelot, Robert has done an exceptional job of pointing out some of the data confusion going on with your business. However, we can only do so much from the public side of things. I would recommend that you start a thread at the Google And Your Business Forum and completely describe all of your conflicting data in hopes of getting a response from a Google Rep or Top Contributor. It sounds to me like you may have hidden duplicates going on that have merged with your + page, but that's just a shot in the dark. Here is the link to the forum: http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!forum/business You have some big work ahead of you getting this untangled. Don't delete anything right now. See if you can get some Google-based guidance first, and be prepared to show them everything.

Hi
How do you delete your google+ listing? From my Google+ listing if I click on manage my listing it takes me to the Google Places dashboard, and I don't really want to delete this entry from Google places as in effect it will be removed from Google and my control

Hi Robert
Thanks again. Yes the one with Joe J is the correct version. I should have said that the address on the Google+ local page is incorrect for some reason?.
I have managed to change the location of the pin on the map to the correct location but the address mentions 'Ogmore Vale' which is totally incorrect. The correct address is on the footer of the website.
I am unable to change this address in Google+ local, I have submitted feedback to Google but why can't I change this?
I suppose this could be the cause that is affecting my local rankings?

I had a similar issue and deleted my google plus listing. This brought back our places rankings.

OK, you are making a common mistake and that appears to be causing you a problem. When you look at your website, you have a different address than either +/places listing. This is critical if you are to get it right. Note: You are pulling in a google map with it and using the address on the site. So, you have 3 addresses minimum in the eyes of the Google. If you have differing addresses on any citation sites (and in your business there are too many!!!) or in Bing, Yahoo, etc. then it is confusion to the 10th degree.
You have to clean that piece up. I am assuming the one with a review by Nigel is the one that is NOT good?? The one with the review by Joe J is the correct one and that is absolutely the mailing address of the establishment? If so, I will go into mapmaker and make an edit. (we do a few of these so it may help). I do not want to change the wrong thing so LMK.
Now, you also want to go to your citation sites (especially the ones using Google to get to you) and make sure they all have exact address as what you will have on your one G+/places page. If the map you are pulling in is not addressed correctly and you don't know how to fix, LMK and we will show you.
WIth change in MapMaker we may be able to get something reasonably quickly. If you will get all over the citation sites, website, map, it will help. From now on there can be only ONE...address. (OK that highlander thing was clever!)
Best

Thanks Robert - Sent you a PM
It's been 100% since about Feb of this year, and the tel number should be consistent.
Its been the last few weeks I suppose that it is not appearing in the local results when it should really be as the competition have not really optimised their listings and many have not migrated to a Google+ local page.
Thinking of it, the problems started when I migrated the places page over to a Google+ local page?

Hi
When I click on Edit Business Details on the Google+ local page I get the following
This Listing Is Unavailable You may only access listings that you own. If you created this listing with a different Google Account, please log in to that account and try again. If you've deleted this listing, you may create it again in Google Places.
However if I click on manage this listing it takes my to the google places dashboard for this listing? Where I can edit the details but these are not been reflected when I then click on 'see your listing on google'

If you've switched to Google+ Local, you should be able to edit the page directly from Google Plus, rather than going to the Google Places dashboard.

Ocelot,
Others have had similar issues, and if you are able to give a name/domain that would be a big help. If you need confidential you can always PM (many will suggest this to assist you).
There are several times this can happen with an address or even a business name, etc.
First, is the phone number you are using consistent across time?
When did you complete to 100%?
When did you first notice change? Any movement or is it gradually down? Have you looked at the business in Map maker?
LMK and I will follow with you,
Robert

New Google Maps - Does my strategy change?
I am currently in the process of ensuring our 70 locations are accurately portrayed in Google. Does the Google Maps update impact my efforts? My efforts being widespread citations spanning the local ecosystem, G+ optimization via Google Places, and in the future checking Google Map Maker for accuracy.

Consolidating mulitple Google+ Local pages with one Google+ Page
Hello All, I have trawled the internet, but can seem to find the answer to this question: "How will Google integrate multiple Google+ Local pages with one Google+ Page?" A bit of background to this. I work for a company that started online, but has since moved into retail stores. We currently have 14 stores around the UK. Now each of these stores has a Google+ Local page which were automatically converted over from the old style Google Places pages. I have read that these pages should be integrated with our regular Google+ account. All of the examples I have read about seem to relate to offline businesses that have moved into online, rather than online business that have moved into physical retails stores. And these examples are just one store, one Googe+ Local listing & one Google+ business page. That seems simple enough... but what about multiple locations?! Do I just need to sit on my hands and see what happens? Or are there things I can be doing now? Cheers for any help! Rich

Issues with google places.
Hey there! A few weeks ago I made some changes to my client's "google places page". I am facing two issues there which I could not resolve on my own, they are: After I made changes and updated the page I could not see any activity on the analytics section whereas before I updated the page there was some metrics visible. The client had already claimed his places page before he came to me and entered some information. He just stuffed some keywords in the description section. I made necessary changes to the description based on the best practices for places page and according to Google's guideline for creating a great listing. The problem is the category did not update on the places page that show up in SERPs(it ranks top for four major keywords with geo indicators). However, the changes I made does appear when on the lower left side when I login into my places page. I don't see any link that will let me edit "description". Am I confusing some other section with category? I have tried to be as lucid as possible. I will appreciate any help. Thanks for your time. epMp kPWpf

How does google decide what city a blog belongs to?
I'm trying to build links from more local blogs at the moment and considering a huge list of blogs that are in my city, of which many do accept guest posts. I'm trying to discover a metric to thin this list down further. Is there any way of finding out if google considers a specific blog to be local to a certain area? What signals does google consider when it is making this analysis? Is it the content? or is it the "about the blog author" section? Thanks, Storwell

Google Places - Co Working Spaces
Hello, Hope this hasn't been answered but no combination of searches could turn it up. What is the impact for those using a co working space such as http://www.thenetworkhub.ca/ in regards to Google Places and local searches? Assumedly there will be multiple 'businesses' using the same address including suite number. Does this cause issue with Google understanding that these are truly legit 'offices' and work address for honest to goodness businesses? Suppose part of the challenge may be those using this address for just mail and answering... Guess my point is, will 20-40 people using the same address for their places profile be a problem? What alternatives exist for these folks? Thanks y'all!
