Pagerank updates and expectations
-
My site (http://www.bluedotlandscaping.com) has recently been redone. Although I have been online for about 9 years, we have never before done SEO. My Google PR is 0. With a lot of work the last 3-5 months we have gotten a MozRank of 3.55. (DA 26 and MozTrust 4.36)
What do you think are reasonable expectations?
Does Google update often?
Is a jump from a PR of 0 to 3 reasonable?
If my site does go to a PR of 3, will I see a noticeable change in my keyword rankings?
Thanks for your help.
Rich

"Does Google update often?"
Google unrolls minor algo updates roughly every two weeks.
"Is a jump from a PR of 0 to 3 reasonable?"
Maybe this will help you conceptualize what PageRank is and how it behaves: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/pagerank-sculpting/
"If my site does go to a PR of 3, will I see a noticeable change in my keyword rankings?"
Since PR is only one value in the overall ranking algo, the answer to this question depends on how strong your other signals of authority and relevance are in comparison to those competing for the same keywords.

Hi Rich,
PR is frustrating, isn't it? It looked like Google gave us a definitive, all-in-one metric to determine the value of our pages--but it just doesn't cut it.
Honestly, I just use PR and Mozrank (which is much better) for competitive analysis. Focus on the following instead:
- Tracking your ranking for desired keywords
- How much traffic your site receives as a result of #1
- How well does the traffic convert (i.e. are you getting customers from the traffic?)
These are the metrics you want to care about over the long haul. Who cares if you have a PR of 0. If you are getting 300% more paying customers this year, that's what counts!

Any Information on Panda Update #21?
A site we've been working on and doing well with (relatively new) got hit pretty hard on November 4th and 5th. Since then, traffic is down considerably and we're trying to diagnose what specific triggers may have caused such a change.

Is big Penguin update on its way
Just wondering, whether these updates have got anything to do with the next and the biggest Penguin update - Penguin refreshes and the launch of Disavow Option seems to be a bit correlated. It appears that Google might be testing its algo and the Disavow Link is launched so that website owners who might feel frustrated that their websites are wrongly affected can use this tool to exonerate from the penalty. Any thought?

Google Pushed Out Panda Update 3.9 Last Night
Google said it was rolling out a Panda algorithm last night. New data refresh of Panda starts rolling out tonight. ~1% of search results change enough to notice. More context: goo.gl/huekfHas anyone been affected yet ....I seem to see a jump in some newer sites less than 3 months old already for some rankings - I don't like seeing rankings that quick!Do you see anything?

Huge Hit and Bouncing Rankings Since Panda 3.3 Update?
Has anyone else seen rankings bouncing all over the place since the end of Feb? A client's site is for the term hcg which I know is controversial but we were in 3rd or 4th for the past couple of months until this update. Now for the term "hcg" the rankings are bouncing from the twenties to over 100 multiple times a day. I check them throughout the day with non personalized search, rank checker, etc to just try and keep updated. I have never seen rankings bounce around so much after an update and am wondering if this update is somehow effecting these more controversial search terms. Since The end of Feb our traffic has almost dropped in half due to the drop in just the "hcg" term ranking We have been cleaning up the site, updating lower quality content, blogging frequently and trying to build better links for the past couple months of working on the site. The problem is there have been a few other previous SEO companies that worked on the site and I don't know how much black hat tactics were used. Any insight or suggestions on this would be appreciated, we are all scrambling to try and recover from this.

Chrome blocked sites used by Googles Panda update
Google's Panda update said it used Chrome users blocked sites lists as a benchmark for what they now term poor quality content. They said the Panda update effectively took about 85% of them out of the search results. This got me thinking, it would be very nice to discover what are the exact sites they don't like. Does anyone know if there is an archive of what these sites might be? Or if none exists, maybe if people could share their Chrome blocked sites on here we might get an idea?

Google Panda 2.5 Update?
On Sunday 18th Sept I noticed a huge drop in our rankings for keywords that we were doing extremely well. Majority of the keyword SERP positions for our main targetted keywords were #1 and #2. These have all drop the bottom part of first page. Other new keywords we were targetting had climbed very well (some hovering just below top 10 and some in top 10 of Google UK SERP. These have all completely dropped off. Although analysing the site thouroughly (both on-page and link profile) it doesnt appear to have any issue significant enough to cause a penalty. From Monday 20th Sept (everybody back to work) the threads here http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en&start=5760 and http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4364389.htm seem to be buzzing over unexpected SERP drops and increases. By that I assume Panda 2.5 or at least some form of update taken/taking place? If anybody know of the reent heavy fluctuations which seem to have started in the weeken or have experienced unexpected positions increaes/drops, I would be very interested to hear/read from you. Cheers, Mo Raja
