Angies List and Judy's Book and other sites
-
How much SEO weight do sites like Judy's Book or even Angie's List have. I do see the links in the linking reports but I am not sure if I should classify them as paid directories for inclusion. Also a second part of the question is do most of you still recommend the use of paid directories for link building? Yahoo Directory, BBB and so on?

Definitely +1 on that last sentence!

Obviously there is a fine line and double standards when it comes to paid directory listings, however as long as you stick to the approved ones and to be sure only submit to free directory sites that might keep you out of trouble. The bottom line is you can NOT only rely on google for traffic and sales, to do so is only putting yourself into a corner.

I use the BBB as a source of credibility. I have used Yahoo Directory, but I made zero sales. It helps if your site is new because it's a follow link. The BBB has made 1 sale for me so it paid for itself for the year.
I wouldn't waste any time for SEO purposes on Angie's List if it's behind a login. But I would look at it as a source of revenue. It's just like craigslist. I don't post on Craigslist for SEO purposes, I post on there to get business. Forget SEO rankings; it's about money in the bank.

Not sure Angies List is indexable as it's behind a login, so I don't think there is much SEO value there. Looks like Judy's Book puts their links in the business profile within an iframe. Not much SEO value there either. But don't not look into them, still could provide much needed value for leads.
I know Matt Cutts covered BOTW and the Yahoo directory here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pu1YWcIh04&feature=player_embedded
I think the number one reason why I would submit to these directories is because Matt seems to find it okay and that it could be good if Google goes the way of treating citations as links. If Google goes that way, then yes, those paid inclusions could be great, even without a link.
For other paid directories, I would only recommend those specific to your industry that will also send some sort of traffic. For example, if you are a plastic surgeon, get accepted on plasticsurgery.org. I've done that and it's worked perfectly. Paying for general directories is a waste of money that could be spent on other forms of link building.
I would look into other citation sources that you can get from a UBL submission, a Whitespark campaign or a Localeze submission. They go through and add your local business to all the local directories. Seems to work pretty good for the local clients I've worked with.
Does that help?

How much 'ranking power' would a link from a privacy policy page of a Big Brand have if the site content is totally unrelated?
Let's say that Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If Site A links from their privacy policy page to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings for Site B given that the content is totally unrelated and it's a link from a privacy policy? I’m asking if the work to get clients/partners do this help. I have a hypothetical question for you all! Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If site A links from their privacy policy to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings? I have been using the moz open site explorer tool and glancing at my competition. I noticed most sites if not all in the linking domains section have a link to there own site. How do i do this? On my site i have no established links and my score is only 1/1. Even with lower ranking sites that have there own site linking to there self have a 16/16. Any help would be appreciated I am pretty new to all of this. thanks

How long until links 'fall off'?
If I have site A linking to site B, and take down the links - does anyone have any experience in about how long they take to 'fall off', that is stop appearing in Webmaster Tools or Moz? I'm going on three weeks currently. Perhaps this takes months?

What's more important page authority Vs domain authority?
Hello everyone, I am fairly new to SEO so I'm still trying to get my head round everything, I am currently looking into some back links .. well looking at competitor's back links to copy. I was just wondering what's more important page authority or domain authority? So for example if a page has a page authority of 50 and a domain authority of 10 is that better than if a page have page authority 10 and a domain authority of 50. Thanks so much in advance!

Safe to link to another site you own?
Hi mozzers, I have some external links on a resource page on my established site. I have a new site in the same niche with content that if linked to, would improve the resource page. If I linked to it using branded anchor text, would it be safe? My thoughts are yes...as long as it adds value and isnt keyword anchored. The sites are on different C class IPs Would welcome some thoughts Peter

Linkbuilding to development site
We're creating a new website for a client, and we have already started link building to the pages, including some deep landing pages. Currently the site is blocked from being indexed - we're just concerned that there may be issues when we launch the site as there will be a lot of links pointing towards the pages from day 1. Are we ok to continue link building?
