Very interesting test on social signals, thoughts?
-
According to this inforgraphic I found on Unbounce, the most powerful social signal is Google-Plus followers followed by Google-Plus votes.
Now these results look amazing, so if this test is correct I need to gather 100 business page followers and a shed load of plus votes and I should see big movement in the SERP's?
Thoughts?

Of course, Google will be adding more weight on Google Plus because it is their products and they have got all the data. Tweets and Facebook likes also help gaining more online exposure but what I believe is that social signal is important but it is not as powerful as links. Google, just like any other search engines depends heavily on links. Social signals are important but they cannot override the importance of links.
Moreover, the sample size of the test is small and therefore, a definite conclusion is hard to draw from this.

Yeah I agree, thus the need to discuss on here.
If it was a move of say a few positions then yes, this could have been caused by other means but the sheer scale of the movements is scary if indeed social did generate these movements and not being involved in this activity would be a big mistake (if the data is correct).

Increase 15 positions by getting 100 Google+ followers? Are they keywords long-tail or competitive? I'm a bit skeptical on it. The test's sample size is small (1?) and therefore the results may not be accurate. No doubt that these social signals influence organic rankings, but many factors do.

Social Icons Link to Inner Pages
We have the social icons (facebook, twitter, youtube etc) in the footer of our homepage linked to inner pages instead of our actual social accounts. So, if you click on the facebook icon you go to one of our inner pages talking about our facebook profile and why to like us on facebook. Then on this inner page you can get to our facebook profile. We do this so we can pass on PR juice from our homepage to our inner page, and not lose it right off our front page. Is this a good idea? Or does it just confuse users? Most people think when they click on a facebook icon they will go to an actual facebook profile. Here is my homepage, http://www.buyautoparts.com/ click on the icons on the footer and let me know your thoughts.

Pay with a Tweet (or other social payments) in the Freemium world
Hi Mozer(s), I work for a company which provides cloud-based collaboration environments for companies. Like many companies in this field, we offer a Free package, which gives users enough capabilities to explore our tool under business-alike circumstances. However, we currently dont have a time limit for our free version - which, makes us (I think) quite unique from a competitive standpoint. But consequently, it also means a lot of users see no immediate need to upgrade to a business package. If maintaining this business model, we are considering various options in how to generate more awareness. The company is quite new and can generally only get better results of SEO and social media advancement. One alternative is to start charging for signup to the Free package, using Social payments scheme, i.e. get access to the collaboration tools for free if liking, tweeting, plusing us, using a pre-defined message, hashtag, etc, using a hybrid approach, allowing users to edit some/all of the message. It may have an impact on number of sign ups, but are there other potential negative effects? I have seen some comments, both positive and negative, about its SEO impact, mostly positive, not least from this [Youmoz post](How To: Win Tweets and Influence Search Engines with PayWithaTweet).- though unlikely to have a direct SEO effect, it can increase sharing, exposure and SERP presence. But any flip sides social payment users should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Has anyone done any testing on LinkedIn Endorsements to see if they are of any SEO value?
Hi, Has anyone done any testing on LinkedIn Endorsements to see if they are of any SEO value? It is so easy to endorse a persons skills, it seems to devalue the credit given. But, if it is adding any SEO value, why not? Thanks so much, Donna 🙂

Does creating a Facebook App help your social SEO factors?
We're looking to build out an event countdown widget for Facebook users to install as an App. Should we just focus on creating a useful app, or should we be trying to also optimise it for Likes, Comments, Shares etc. Having read the Searchmetrics 2012 report we're starting to ramp up our FB efforts...
