Move webshop domain to the brand domain?

Hello,
A client of mine has a brand with a website for over 10 years now.
About 4 years ago the have opened a webshop on an other domain (like www.brandnamewebshop.com).At this moment the brand domain has a seomoz authority of 45.
The webshop domain authority is 25.The question:
Would it not be better to transfer the webshop to the brand domain because of the domain authority?If so, how can this be done the best way? With a 301?
I also think: what a loss of energy of building the authority on the other domain.
Is it an idea to use both domains for a webshop and rewrite the content? Or is there an other way to still make use of the built up domain authority? Would it really help the other domain when I make a 301 redirect (and make use of the pointing links to the webshop domain?).I hope somebody have some experience with this...

Before you make a big move like this with a money site you need to know what you are doing. There are many ways that website moves can go wrong because the person doing the move lacks knowledge.
When a website is moved your goal should be to have a huge increase in sales..... you are worried about being hit with a huge loss. That tells me that you should hire an expert to assist you and teach you how this is done.
Websites should be moved by a person who has the knowledge and care to do it properly.

Will there be a big drop in sales first?Because I have to warn the company about the risk and expectations...

Hi Gerjan, YOU dont need Google to tell you if your links are bad, you can find out yourself and disavow it or try to get it taken off.
IE: if you have been doing linking building for a while you probably want to clean up your backlink profile and get ride of those small links that dont matter, or with a little research you can definitely find out if links are hurting your ranking. ie: links that dont make sense, guest post that have no reason being there.
For example i have a gentleman who is an seo company like me and he is vying for the same keyword as i am and he has a link to a guest post he did to a physical therapy blog?? what that has anything to do with SEO blows my mind, But hey better late then never, clean it up.
After All its not about the size but the motion .
if you know what i mean .Put propriety value to your good links, but it is not the end all be all of everything.

Hi BizDetox,
I have never deleted bad links for any client (because I never noticed a drop because of bad links). Do you have experienced this? Google Webmasters Tools never gave a client of mine a notice/warning. Is it still possible there are bad links?Looking forward to your opinion!

I think also this is the best way.
So, not to redirect the entire domain at ones, but redirect every category and maybe also some important productpages. Right?Hampig, tnx for the response, but I do not want to redirect the old the domain to the new. That would not be smart indeed
I also do not kwow why there are 2 domains. This is also the reason why I want to change this... -

Thanks for your input. I thought as well that the Sub directory would be the best idea, but i am still concerned about the link integrity that follows along with the new site. He had mentioned that the site was 4 years old, thats enough time to rank. Would you agree on doing a back link check and only transferring the urls that make the most sense?
How would your approach be?

Yes. This is what I would do.
I would place the store in a folder such as /shop/ or /store/ and then do a page-by-page 301 redirect of the old store into the folder, preserving the page URLs and optimization.

Not a good idea . You are talking about a site with age of site over 10 years and plus some back link history and you want to 301 that ? Or you want to 301 the new site to old . I guess I would have to say it all is based on the traffic and linking structure . Don't mess with the integrity of the old domain by transferring in unwanted links Here are your options 1. Completely forget about the new domain ( I still don't understand why there is two domains to begin with ) 2. 301 redirect new domain to old one . ( do link research on new domain and disavow unwanted links ) 3. Make a sub directory on your old domain . ( ie: webshops.brandedsite.com) the you can 301 to this new directly and make sure all content is unique on each page . If you 301 and ur content is duplicate on your own domain ( it is not as much as a big deal ) as your site being indexed is going to be on the same site map. 4. Pour a glass of Jameson neat. Enquiries stopped after site move
Hello, I really hope someone can help. We recently moved our website from a shared server with one host to a VPS with another. At the same time we decided it would be right to switch from the .co.uk to the .com and also purchase an SSL. Since the switch we have had zero enquiries (3 weeks ago) when we would normally average one a day. According to Google Analytics, I cannot see that traffic has been to adversely effected and rankings, though dropping very slightly have not dramatically fallen. We have tested the site rigirously and there are no issues with it we can see. I ensured at domain level that there was a 301 redirect on the .co.uk site as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this would be the case? And/or whether switching it all back to where it was with the .co.uk would be a foolish idea? Many thanks!

Domain Migration Hell!
5 weeks ago we migrated our site to a new domain. We also installed an SSL certificate on the new domain. The new domain was purchased 5 years ago but we only used it as a redirect address. It was more consistent with our brand so we decided to migrate to it. Great care was taken setting up page to page redirects. A formal domain change request was made to Google. In fact the move was implemented with only a handful of broken links on a 500 page site. Those links were quickly fixed. Our traffic declined from about 350 visitors a week to as low as 40 visitors the first full week after the move. Now the number of organic Google visits is up to 80, a drop of 75% !!! All except 20 (out of 500) pages are reindexed on Google Search Console. MOZ domain authority for the new domain has climbed from 5 to about 12. The old domain had a DA of 23. In Google Search Console hundreds of "URL Not Allowed" errors are the site map for our previous domain that redirects to our new domain. Attached please see image of this. The site map for the new domain appears normal, but about 160 pages are indexed that are not in the sitemap. I wonder if these two issues have somehow contributed to the drop in ranking. I have included images showing GCT for the 2 domains. I posted on MOZ a month ago and was told it just might take time. No improvement and now I am wonder if there is not some issue with the sitemaps causing havoc. Are traffic is down more than 80%. This does not seem normal. Any advice? Any suggestions as to how to expedite recovery? Thanks,

Two blogs on a single domain?

Is it safe to 301 redirect old domain to new domain after a manual unnatural links penalty?
I have recently taken on a client that has been manually penalised for spammy link building by two previous SEOs. Having just read this excellent discussion, http://www.seomoz.org/blog/lifting-a-manual-penalty-given-by-google-personal-experience I am weighing up the odds of whether it's better to cut losses and recommend moving domains. I had thought under these circumstances it was important not to 301 the old domain to the new domain but the author (Lewis Sellers) comments on 3/4/13 that he is aware of forwards having been implemented without transferring the penalty to the new domain. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/lifting-a-manual-penalty-given-by-google-personal-experience#jtc216689 Is it safe to 301? Is a .co.uk domain better?
Hi I have www.example.net however trying to judge if it is better having www.example**.**co.uk instead (as it will be targeted for UK people). I could use Webmaster tool to geographically target UK - however perhaps best to use a .co.uk domain instead. Any views on using a .net ending domain? Many thanks Nigel

Does using a sub-domain lessen the effectiveness of your main domain?
For example a website without a blog and is a simple html site with no blogging capabilities. We go out to Blogger or Wordpress and set up the blog portion of the website using something like blog.yourdomain.com. Does this make a difference SEO wise? Is is more effective to be sure that you are using the main domain and not a sub-domain? I have heard both sides before but can't seem to find the concrete answer. Thanks for any advise out there.
