How to track and verify 301 redirects from 22 old websites to a new one?
-
Me and my team have just finished a website which will replace 22 old ones (6 main domains and 16 sub-domains, 19 in wordpress and 3 in Joomla). This means more than 20,000 links that we're trying to redirect with the most granularity possible.
But we're experiencing a lot of conflicts because of the quantity and variety of links and the interference of Wordpress. And I'm having trouble finding which links are working and which aren't.
I have a URL list in a plain .txt file for every website, is there a tool that can check these links for me? I've tested many wordpress plugins, but I didn't find a good one.
Thanks!

Oh wow, that was right there!
Thanks Shane, now I can see all my broken links
-
It does follow external, and tells you if it is a redirect (you have to check the box on the open link screen)
Look into the program closer and its documentation
But like I said, if you want a very feature rich program go with screaming frog
-
Thanks Shane!
I've tried Xenu. When you use the option "Check URL list" it sees that a page has been redirected and it marks it as "OK" but it doesn't follow that redirect to see if it works, and there is no option to "Check external Links" like in a regular crawl.
Do you know if Screaming Frog does a better job?
I need a crawler that:
- Reads URL lists
- Follows the redirects
- Checks the response of the website it arrived in
-
Not a plain txt checker, but Xenu or Sreaming Frog, can do this and spit out a customizable report (Xenu is free, but Screaming Frog is more feature rich)
Hope this helps

New website server code errors
I launched a new website at www.cheaptubes.com and have recovered my search engine rankings as well after penguin & panda devestation. I'm continuing to improve the site but moz analytics is saying I have 288 medium issues and i see the warning "45% of site pages served 302 redirects during the last crawl". I'm not sure how to fix this. I'm on WP using Yoast SEO so all the 301's I did are 301's not 302's. I do have SSL, could it be Http vs Https?

My average is 44% But I have a picture page that is 100% and a contact page that is 80% Can pages like this cause an algo penalty that could hurt a whole site? Thank you for your valuable insights

Registration tracking with Google Analytics
Hi everyone, I want to track user registrations with Google Analytics for a customer's website. The thing is after registration visitors are not directed to a specific page, so I can't set it as a goal. I thought of tracking submit button with event tracking, but that data would not be true as a visitor may click it more than once, and there's the login with facebook and twitter thing. Before convincig customer to create a registration confirmation page, I want to make sure there's no other way as they don't want to make any changes to the current website. Any ideas?

301 Redirect 'https'? First post - Newbie.
Good afternoon, Thank you in advance for your help - this is my first post and I am new to all of this. Situation: I've setup 301 redirects for www.thechiplab.com to my new site www.chiplab.com (recently launched e-commerce site on Magento) through cPanel. Problem: Some of my best links are to my old ''https:" www.thechiplab.com secure domain (ex. http://techcrunch.com/2006/12/22/why-doesnt-cafepress-use-flash/) and are not being "passed" on to the new domain. (Open Site Explorer) Is it possible to recover any of the PR from the old secure site? Thanks again, Chase

How do you add Facebook Insights to Multiple Websites?
If I have 4 top-level domain websites all for the same corporate company but with different focuses (ie/ engineering, technology etc.) and I want to add Facebook insights, should I add the same meta tag to all websites or should I create separate meta tags? If I create seperate ones, the issue is that we have one main facebook page that has multiple admins that I would like to give access to but it looks like you can only associate one website to one facebook page. So from what I can tell, if I were to create separate ones, I would have to setup fake facebook pages or fake profiles in order to get different facebook insights meta tags? I'm hoping there is a better way... or maybe I should just put the same meta tag code on all 4 websites? Thanks for your help!

Creating a Filter in GA to track Parent Category
I don't know if the title makes sense, but here's my question... Our newspaper website has multiple categories like World, Sport, Entertainment etc. Now, a story, belonging to the entertainment section maybe published on the entertainment page but is likely to have a slot somewhere on the Home page as well as other pages. The same goes for stories in sport etc. However, the url displays the date folllowed by the post title and thats it, no category name. Now, a user may end up going to a detailed story that belongs to the entertainment section (from the home page or any other page) without actually having visited the entertainment page. However, for tracking purposes, we want to see how many hits we got on the entertainment page and any story belonging to that particular section. So, my question is how do I go about creating filters that can help me track category page and detail story hits as one? Or, should I ammend the url structure (keep in mind we are using wordpress for our news website) to include category after the date and would this solve my problem of tracking? I asked a similar question recently but maybe I did not explain myself clearly. Thanks!
